My girlfriend and I have been there twice. The first time was for dinner. The setting is very cozy and they had a real fireplace in the middle of the room. The food was pretty good but nothing to brag about and a bit pricey compared to other comparable restaurants in the area. The second visit was just for drinks and we noticed more interesting details about Adega. This place has a very odd floor plan and layout. For some reason, the bar, the restaurant and the lounge are all segregated into individual sections with their own entrances. This makes each section really tiny and claustrophobic! The bar area was so small and narrow that you have to walk within inches of people sitting down and smell their repulsive body odor. My girlfriend and I then decided to just go into the restaurant area and have a drink in a more quiet setting (we walk back out into the street and into their next door restaurant entrance)... The hostess gave us a subliminal attitude and told us we were not allowed to sit in the restaurant unless we were going to eat! LOL! At this point we were fed up with this place and decided to spend our money across the street @ Mompou. Overall, If youre NOT claustrophobic and looking to fit in with the crowd or want a cozy place to have a good overpriced diner, check out Adega. JUST KNOW, if its just an amazing food experience youre looking for, spend the money at Fornos of Spain, Casa Vasca or Spanish Tavern, you will NOT be disappointed.

Went there to celebrate my husbands birthday in 2016. The food was delicious - good portion sizes too. The restaurant also looks beautiful. However the server and host have turned what could have been a 5 star review to a 1 star review. They were not at all warm or inviting. It was almost as if they didnt want to serve us and were just doing the bare minimum to do so. Anytime they brought something to our table they left so quick - almost as soon as the item hit the table. I had been ordering hot water with lemon which I always do at restaurants. The server brought what looked like hot water with lemon in it, but then on the bill charged me three times for "herbal tea" when there was not even a tea bag in the cup and I had not requested herbal tea. I asked him about it later and as he walked off after I posed the question he said yes it was herbal tea that he had brought. That shows the extent of the lack of communication and interest therein. The host had even said that the only thing they do for birthdays was place a candle on the desert item. I said that was fine and requested it - right there in front of my husband - and they didnt even do that. Those are just a few of many examples from the night. Overall not only did we not feel welcome, but we felt unwelcome. So its not worth it. Definitely not planning to go back.

*****Pending - Just got a personal phone call from the Manager (Marco). May have to rewrite the above because he has asked me to bring my family back for another try************* I just finished taking my wife and children for lunch there. The meat (picanha) was burnt on the outside and cold on the inside. Shoe leather tastes better and has a nicer consistency. The rice was re-heated microwave "fresh", and the potato chips were stale. My daughters chicken nuggets were burnt and her French Fries were cold and soggy. The best part of the whole meal was the bread, which they buy from an outside bakery, but at least it was fresh. With regard to customer service - I asked for a steak sandwich, which they serve in the bar next door to the restaurant, and was told that they would not bring me an item from their bar menu to the dining room. The staff here has no desire to consider a customers desire, rather they gave the impression that it bothered them that I would request this. (To be fair, a friend had told me that the bar here serves an excellent steak sandwich.) Summarizing, dont come here if you are looking for good food or service. On the other hand if you are looking for poor food served poorly and in an arrogant fashion, this place is perfect for the masochist.

If you like to spend a ton of money on ok food then, this is the place to go. If you want a dark romantic place to eat, then this is the place to go. The restaurant is very dimly lit and small. The ceiling is low which leads to an abundance of noise. If you want to eat and talk with each other, this is not the place to go. The tables are close together and when the restaurant is full, you wind up getting bumped into a lot. I had better Shrimp & Garlic at Casa Vascas or Spanish Tavern. The sangria was $28.50 a pitcher, which we agreed is extremely expensive, plus it didnt taste like sangria, it was watered down, extremely sweet and fruity tasting. I dont even think there was wine in it. We certainly didnt get a buzz from it. My friends and I live in the area and frequent the local restaurants and this past weekend, we tried Adega Grill. Sorry, but for my hard earned money, I will not be back. If you have money to burn, then by all means go and eat there. If you want much better tasting food and a lot less expensive, then try one of the other Spanish restaurants in the area.

Delicious Portuguese food in a white tablecloth setting. Delightfully professional waitstaff of the old school, professional, gracious style. Portions are copious (to put it lightly), and food comes drenched in good olive oil. If thats not your thing (its not mine), the kitchen will leave it off. My grilled octopus with potatoes, braised peppers & onions, and veg (sliced carrots, broccoli, asparagus with garlic) was artfully presented, and the octopus tender. My friends bacalhao dish was massive, served on top of rusks soaked in the juices of the dish. We were thankful that the music (often fado) was kept low, to encourage and allow conversation. The wine list is expertly presented, with concise, informational descriptions of wine regions; the wine selection itself tends towards larger companies with internationally known names. It would be nice to see some Portuguese from smaller, family-run companies. Same for the beers. All in all, a happy place.

Went here last winter before the Bocelli Concert, so it was very busy. Normally not as hectic as Iberia down Ferry St. Decor and atmosphere is good for "date night" with the wife. Food was good, not great. My wife knows her latin food and wasnt gaga over it, but wasnt picky either, so Ill go with that for food rating. Overall atmosphere is cosy, big cushion seats for my wife to sit in. The hostess was stunning and dressed with ultimate sophisication. She was Asian/Brazilian, probably a model. Was surprised to see that in Newark, she was more suited for an expensive Manhattan restaurant dressed in Prada. However, she was pleasant and courteous and did her job well and these comments also come from my wife on this! So we may come again next time there is a concert at the Rock.

One of Newarks most highly acclaimed restaurant, Adega Grill is the domain of a top portugeuese chef from Portugal. The chefs refined cuisine is a gem in a worthy setting. The Dining Room's stoned-paneled walls are drapped with a collection of grape vines. Diners sink into comfortable silk-upholstered chairs and banquettes at elegantly appointed tables adorned with stunning arrangements. Shaded table candles provide soft lighting, and background music is classical. Service is impeccable, And unlike any you can find on ferry st. Menus change daily, assuring every visit is unforgettable. As a frequent visitor to the ironbound for dinner, I find myself allured by such an addicting place. Of course the place is going to be crowded, it's the BEST of NEWARK!!
