Avoid this place at all costs. This past weekend I was physically thrown out of Sona 13 in Morristown, without warning, because I made the mistake of putting on a baseball hat. I was in Morristown visiting a few friends and after dinner we went to Sona 13 to watch the game and have a few beers. We were at the bar for a few hours and spent about $200 before I was assaulted by one of the bouncers and literally thrown on the street. This all happened because I put on a baseball hat: My friend said he was tired of carrying his hat but didnt want to wear it. I offered to take it from him and put the hat on my head before another one of my friends took a photo of us. Within seconds a roided-out bouncer in a XS black t-shirt was shining a blinding flashlight at us. We thought he was doing so because of the camera had flashed, but apparently it was because I put on the hat. Since I had no idea the hat was the issue, I didnt take it off my head. In less than 5 seconds the bouncer walked up to me, grabbed my nearly-full beer out of my hands and set it on the bar, said, "Youre outa here," then grabbed me by the neck, put me in a headlock, and physically dragged me out of the bar as my friends stood there in shock. No words were exchanged nor was I given any warning. When we first went into the bar we were never told that hats were not allowed nor were we shown any sort of dress-code rulebook. After all, this place is pitched as a sports bar. My friends and I had not caused any trouble that night, keeping mostly to ourselves as we watched the various games on the big screen TVs above the bar. This was a completely unprovoked, unjustified assault by an overly aggressive bouncer. As someone who is used to going out in Manhattan, and has been to many of the most exclusive venues that this city has to offer, I am very confused that a sports bar in a small town thinks its acceptable to treat customers the way that I was treated. This is just your typical small-town trashy sports bar that is for some reason trying to also be a "club". If youre not a steroid-shooting Affliction-wearing, mindless meathead Jersey "Bro", avoid this place like the plague.

I have hundreds of Google reviews, so you know I appreciate dining. Ive had good food, bad food. Ive eaten at places across the country, all sorts of genres, all sorts of people running the place and eating there. Ive eaten at greasy dives with motorcyclists all around me.Never, in my life, have I had an experience like this. We were finishing dinner, and a man came up and asked if I could leave my seat so he could light the candles over my head. I said, "Do you mind waiting until were done?" He repeated his request, I repeated mine. He turned to the hostess, who said "Just a minute," so I figured that would be the end of it. After all, part of basic hospitality in the restaurant business is not upsetting your guests, right? Who interrupts someones meal to stand on their seat and do something as trivial as lighting overhead candles?Well, things went sour quickly when the guy stood on the bench right behind me, reached OVER MY HEAD, and lit the candle. He was laughing, I was furious. Im not going into what happened next, but instead of getting a manager or instead of ANYONE stopping this guy from lighting the candle, my friend and I were thrown out. Roughly, with full force. That was completely uncalled for, because we were not being physically affrontive in any way. The amazing part was that when the manager came over, instead of listening to what happened, he told us to get out and encouraged the bouncer to push us out.So, yes, one star. Its not worth mentioning the mediocre food quality (3 stars?) at prices a dollar or two above what they need to be. Its not worth mentioning the lack of atmosphere that feels like a warehouse with a few seats inside. The experience speaks for itself. I stood up for what I knew was right, and was mistreated instead of listened to. Stay away from any establishment that does not value its customers. Far away.

UPDATE: Service STILL sucks and I prob wont go back, especially to eat. Absolutely horrible. You dont want to go here for dinner. Food and drinks are overpriced, too. A co-worker gave me a gift certificate to Sona and I went there for dinner with my girlfriend.... what a mistake. The service is even worse now. We were seated and, even though the place was kind of empty, nobody came by to check on us for about 15 minutes. I even went up to the bartender and couldnt even get a drink. He was too busy talking to his friends to care that I wanted to order. Finally I walked around and found someone who worked there and she took care of us. I would have walked out and gone somewhere else, but we were getting a free dinner anyway. Oh.. and $5 beers??? I thought this was Morristown, not NYC. This place really doesnt care about its customers... but again with the crowds they get on Friday and Saturday, they dont have to care about you going there for dinner. -------------------------------------------------------------- This bar is alright. They staff isnt the friendliest (actually the service sucks), but they dont have to be because this place is busy every Friday and Saturday night. They dont really have too good of bar specials, but they do have a free buffet dinner on Thursday and Friday from 4-6. In general, the food is pretty good.

I was assaulted by the muscular tattooed bartender on Saturday March 27, 2015. I was sober ordering my first drink of the night when the bartender walked off with my change and when he returned I politely reminded him that change was owed. He became furious and knocked my hat off my head. After I retrieved my hat I went back to ask for my change again. He then reached across the bar and punched me in the face. I went outside and immediately made a report with the police. I intend on pursuing a criminal complaint against the bartender. Please stay away from this place. Im a 5 year active duty Air Force veteran who was respectful during the entire incident. If you enjoy being assaulted by the staff at a bar this place is for you, otherwise STAY AWAY! I am currently working with management of sona to fire the bartender. This review will be updated once a resolution has been achieved.

I live in Morristown and frequently visit this location as it is one of my favorite if not the favorite stop in town for me. Whether it to stop in on a Saturday or Sunday after noon for lunch and a few drinks or a Friday night out. The wings are the best in town and the staff is the friendliest of any bar in Morristown. Mark, Pat, and Derek will always give you a friendly hello and small chatter while serving you. I could never see any staff of Sona even remotely attempt to assault or even bad mouth any customer no matter the situation. So if you are in town and are looking for a cold drink, lunch, or even a night out, popped into Sona 13. Youll definitely enjoy it there.
