Its the traditional Irish Pub decor and long bar, as well as the amazing food, that gives Egan & Sons the edge as being Montclairs number 1 pub. Depending on the day or night, is what type of crowd you will get. Weekends during the day, youve got your sports fans, Friday and Saturday nights its the younger crowd. Thursday night has a reputation as being a magnet spot for area divorcees. No mater what tribe you belong to, or when you go, its the quality of the food and excellent standard of service that brings folks back. Its an ideal place for families for dinner at the the back of the restaurant and the outside terrace out back is a nice place where you can enjoy summer nights. Besides the burgers, Im a sucker for the smoked double pork chop. A great value.

The food was very good. We all really enjoyed everything we had. Above average food and the prices were fair for the quality, also really good quality beers on tap. Getting a table is confusing as there is a line and no one seemed to quite know where to stand or how long it will take to get a table. We were told 40 minutes but it was actually about 10 minutes once we put our name on the list. The wait staff was proficient but seemed to be going in several directions at once. The atmosphere was very nice with warmth, antiquity and artful decorating. Overall it was very good and we would go there again.

I came here on a Friday night for dinner but after looking through the menu there wasnt really anything that was look appealing to me (it all seemed rather boring). We ended up settling on a small pizza to share and drinks. The highlight of this place in my opinion was that they have Magners cider, a drink that I really love but have had trouble finding around here. The pizza was pretty good and was filling for two people. We did not end up actually eating dinner here but I really enjoyed the environment. I guess the best way to describe it is trendy and hipster.

This is the worst service ever !!!!! - the food and drinks were decent but the first thing the waiter said to me when i got there was - i want to go home so you should sit at the bar --- ( it was still an hour till closing and i told him i wouldnt make him stay any longer than he had to be there ) he was very rude compleltly ignored my whole table we eventually had to go to the bar because we were getting no service at all and then i was double charged on my card and am now currently dealing with the manager who is extremely rude and refuses to give me a refund !

Delicious food, pretty good service. I had the lamb burger, which was fantastic. Liked it so much I returned next week with a friend for their birthday dinner, they really enjoyed it too. I just had a regular burger that time though, which was just a fairly standard but pretty decent burger. Also, they have a pretty good selection of scotch and beers. The red-headed bartender was great also. Will definitely be back for their summer deck parties! Btw, you have to go to the back to get a table, which is a bit odd.

Good food and drinks, Terrible! service. We waited about 15 minutes for a beer while we watched the employees doing rounds of shots. I think you should serve you customers before your self. Also while they were cleaning the bus boy didnt even say excuse me when he came clear our table he rudely pushed all my stuff to the side and did what he pleased took things away that we werent finished with and went about his business.

I go there quite a bit. Its one of the best bars in New Jersey if not the New York metro. Food is good, consistent and reasonably priced. If they were to change anything I would suggest they refresh the menu a bit more often. While they have some great staples it would be nice to see maybe some specials or maybe seasonal dishes. Before Egans Montclair had no upscale bar ..Egans has been good for Montclair.

The atmosphere is great. Early on a Saturday night I tries to order a plain corned beef and cabbage sandwich with melted swiss. They have a reuben on the menu. Essentially, I didnt want the sauerkraut or thousand island dreasing. I was told they couldnt do so because sandwiches are pre made. I could see if it was a unreasonable request, but pre made sandwiches not allowing for anything custom? No thanks.

My friend and I went for dinner and drinks. Food was great and we are both picky about food since we usually eat in nyc.(She had salmon and I had the devils chicken) Ambience was terrific and the server was both attentive and sweet! I think her name was Christina. I will definitely come back. There are so many places to eat in Montclair but this one definitely stands out, go and try it.

I went once. I stood at the bar for about ten to fifteen minutes, had both bartenders walk past me several times and never stop at all to see what I wanted, even though I was staring at them the whole time and said "excuse me" once or twice. One of them even made eye contact and didnt take my order. That frustrated me so much that I decided not to ever go back again.

I go here for the food and beer, but I hate the bar scene. Its elbow to elbow on the weekends. Now that they opened the back its usually easy to get a table. The service varies a bit--some of the staff is pretty disinterested, especially the bar staff. But the fish and chips are delicious and the space is beautiful which makes up for it.

"i love this ""pub"". they have micro brew and fresh sea food specials from their sister store next door. if you want above the par micro brew and irish fair this is hands down the place to go. if sword fish is the special of the day get it. you will not be disappointed. this is one my my top 10 favorite restaurants out there."

Food was great, but we had a part of 8 and or server "Nick S" said that he could not split the bill with a party that big and automatically added 20% gratuity. I would understand if they cant split the bill ever, but because we had "too big" of a party of 8? I felt that this was pure laziness.

The food was okay but the drinks were good. I had the moroccan skewers and Mediterranean lamb burger. My friend really enjoyed the open face Rueben sandwich. It was a nice vibe for a Wednesday. I would definitely go back but Ill have to be a little more "safe" with my meal choice.
