Looked nice from the outside. .50 cent coffee outside! Go inside, decor is kinda wobbly and trying to be "cozy" but no real complaints, even though our table was a plastic outdoor lawn table with a cloth over it. The menu was small but had some interesting things on it. The prices were very reasonable upon looking at them, and, assuming the quality and quantity would be relevant to the prices. When the food arrived, our $6 bowl of soup was a cup sized portion. Our $12 salad was a cup sized portion. Ok, maybe a cup and a half. Our main dish, sorry, entree, was as big as our fist and cost twice as much as what it should have. We were served appetizer portions for twice the price of what things should be. I was astonished. Yes, the food did taste ok, not spectacular or memorable, but it was so amazing overpriced that I couldnt believe they would remain in business. We left having spent $50 for two of us and were still hungry. I am not an economical restaurant patron by any means, but I know pretentious surroundings and patterns when I see them. If this place were in Soho or even Williamsburg these days, I may think it normal. But way out in Millburn....the nice folks out there deserve to pay appropriately for quantity. Its a cafe. Stop in for a coffee and maybe desert. But to make a lunch or dinner of it is going to cost more than you may anticipate, and definitely more than you could imagine would be worth the small portions received.

Previously published (by me!) at urbanspoon: Ive eaten here 3 times: once for dinner when it was fairly crowded and twice for weekend lunch/brunch when it was almost completely empty. All three times it took an INCREDIBLY long time (>1 hour???) to get our food and, although most dishes were very good, there was always one dish that was a spectacular disaster. Dinner: my sea scallops were only sauted on one side, the other side was cold and raw. Brunch: my wifes omelet SHOULD have had chopped olives in it. It had olive pits! It would have been funny if it wasnt so expensive. I tried to overlook the shortcomings but after three times I dont think well go back. A shame since there are so few restaurants in Millburn that arent italian.

When visiting Millburn, our family had dinner at the Cafe Monet, a small and cozy cafe with a touch of class. The carrot soup I started with was served piping hot and had a delicate and wonderful flavor. The bread was superb- crisp and right out of the oven, as good as any we have tasted in Paris. The entrees - both beef and fish, were well prepared, served in generous proportions so it could be shared. For dessert we hadwas creme brulee, which was great, not too sweet - just right. We would be glad to eat there again! Maybe for brunch or lunch. The gracious host and waitstaff made the overall experience a very pleasant one.

Cafe Monet is a charming dining experience, easy going, with a well thought out menu and great food. The atmosphere is unpretentious, and as in any good restaurant, the food comes first. You can bring your own wine, and bringing a couple of bottle of good Bordeaux along, and savouring the food, over two or three hours, is my ideal kind of dining. It reminds me of any number of bistros I have dined at in Paris - good food, a loyal clientele, cheerful and animated. If I lived in Millburn I would probably eat there regularly, at least a couple of times a month. I cant wait to go back.

This little bistro is a real gem and its. authenticity and atmosphere would be right at home in the heart of Paris. The grilled octopus, skate and chicken cordon blue with gouda (story goes that it was a big hit with Anthony Quinn) were all flavorful and superb. The dark chocolate souffle, creme brulee and cappuccino were perfect. The service was outstanding and perfectly paced for a long and enjoyable evening. It was our second time there and it just keeps getting better!

If you love French toast, then you have to visit Cafe Monet in Millburn, New Jersey. They have a Croissant French toast with Berry Compote that just melts in your mouth. The Berry Compote that accompanies it has just the right amount of sweetness. Their coffee is great too(nothing can ruin breakfast like a bad cup of coffee can) and they have free WiFi. The service was great also. A great and memorable breakfast experience! I will be back!

I was not happy at all .....first they made us wait 20 minutes even with a reservation ....then we waited to be handle a menu ....the food was mediocre at best....the waiter also pour water on my wine glass ....after finishing the mediocre meal waited 30 minutes for a dessert menu....at that point we asked for the check ....never again...there are other french restaurants much better with better service .

Valentines Dinner was nice. Portions are quite small & the end bill was quite large, especially for a BYOB. I would return for dinner only if I had a coupon. The atmosphere is tight but still manages to be a little separated from the table beside. Decor is lovely. Yes, maybe lunch would be a better bet.

I cannot say enough great things about this place. Easily the best Chicken Cordon Bleu I have ever had. My wife LOVED the steak. Lastly the service is so attentive and caring. We would return in a heartbeat. You should go....dont think....just go.

My wife and I (plus two little ones) really enjoyed our visit. A wonderful breakfast/brunch that did not take long and was delicious..from the beet and endive salad to the steak and eggs. A great cup of coffee and nice people what more could you ask.

Place was dirty, the waiters shirt was filled with sweat ( I think the waiter was also the owner) and the portions are small ( Im a petite woman). After eating there I had to go out for lunch again.

A very creative Chef with unique flavors that arent the run of the mill like all other restaurants in the area. Loved it!
