Its evident by how popular this place is that no one who is raving about this place knows anything about BBQ. Folks keep raving about how "fall off the bone" tender the ribs are, I hate to break it to you all but the ONLY way to get ribs "fall off the bone" tender is to boil them. With that said I had a craving for bbqd ribs, and being that I dont have the 5 hrs it takes to do ribs the right way I decided to give cubbys a try hell its a bergen county landmark I figured how bad could it be? I ordered a full rack of ribs since they were baby back (it would have been a half rack if they were st. louis cut) and as soon as I saw them I knew they were boiled, there was no bark, it appears that they were thrown under a broiler real quick to give the appearance of something other than being tossed in a pot of water and then slathered with an ok but a little too sweet bbq sauce. If you watch any bbq competition when the competitors cut the ribs to plate them THE RIB MEAT STAYS ON THE BONE, I attempted to cut the rib to inspect the meat and the rib meat slid right off the bone....boiled. There was no real pork flavor and these ribs have never seen smoke which is evident by the lack of the tell tale smoke ring that forms from smoking a rack. Anyone could make better ribs than this with a store bought rub, a store bought bbq sauce, some wood chips and a gas grill (thats right you dont need charcoal to beat these ribs they are that far off the mark) I guess if I didnt get stationed in the south when i was in the Marines, I wouldnt know any better, but anyone whos had REAL bbq ribs knows that this isnt even close. I also had the "Texas" chili it was just your run of the mill chili nothing particularly wrong with it but nothing particularly Texan either. Texas Chili is usually made with smoked brisket (the national food of the Republic of Texas) thats been ground. All and all the service was good the atmosphere was on target for a bbq joint, but the food here does not deserve the title bbq.

First you have to know that it is a fast food, self serve restaurant, located directly across from the County prison, twists of barbed wire across the street, a couple of bail bonds shops next door. Go online and notice their prices are not listed. A rack of ribs with fries is $25. A steak is $40. Are you kidding? Only one size soda costs $3.15. Are 2 sides included? No. A vegetable? No. Way overpriced compared to lists of restaurants that are far superior. Long Horn and Outback easily come to mind. OK so you are there, try the ribs. The sauce is a red sugar sweet. Perhaps ok for little kids with sweet tooths, but nothing you would associate with any normal bbq you have ever had. No spice at all. Was it edible? Yea ok. I suppose I have been to worse. It was not a filth hole like some bbq places I have been to in the southern states. Would I ever return? No chance.

Ive frequented Cubbys for a while and would visit every opportunity I had the years I moved away. From all my travels you learn that there are many different forms of BBQ and that the Northeast only has so few choices. Cubbys has always been consistent with fall off the bone ribs, awesome curly and steak fries, the pork shanks are phenomenal, practically everything chicken will amaze you, the Frank and beans to dip your BBQ sauce coated toasted garlic bread, and the mac n cheese! There is something to eat for everyone and they only use high quality ingredients. When you see the massive potions you quickly see the price justifications. Overall, this place is worth every penny. The staff will greet you warmly and help you with anything. You will not be disappointed.

If I had to use one word.....Outstanding. Whether my family and I are eating in or taking it home, the food is always perfect!! I always loved the ribs at the Outback...got them every time. Cubbys blows them away, more meat, better tasting...fresh!! And the BBQ sauce...that is something special; these ribs are fresh, not pulled out of the freezer when you order them. This is what Cubbys does...Ribs and they do them right. Any time we want ribs we go to Cubbys because we know, every time, its fresh, tastes so darn good, and the price is right, because good food is not "fast food." Just a nice place to go with family, friends, and everyone in there is very nice. As well as the people going to get their ribs...maybe they are just happy to be having Cubbys ribs!!!

The food was fantastic, as was expected. Never once has their food let me down. But what really blew me away was the service. The servers behind the counter were incredibly patient and friendly. I went with my teenage brother and his friends so, needless to say, we ordered a lot of food. What was great was the patience the server showed us as we ordered burgers, wings, and fries, and then the SAME server helped bring the food to our table, which in the end consisted of 7 separate trays of food. He even offered to help clear things away from our table to make space for more food. Its rare to find a restaurant that places such a emphasis on customer service. But Cubbys does. I will be back at Cubbys again.

Average food, but way, way overpriced. I mean, $40 for a ribeye? They are charging Chart House prices for a casual, self-service, neighborhood restaurant. Wife and I Ended up ordering ribs as it was the only reasonably priced item on the menu, and a pulled pork sandwich, 6 pieces of wings, and a cup of soda and the total came out to be $55.80. Sauce was too sweet, Fries were soggy and greasy, Soda had a very strong tab water odor (probably dont have any filters and use straight tab water. Hackensack water is one of the worse tasting tab waters in NJ, btw) As you can guess, I wont be going back there.

I must say that it is hard to find an amazing bbq spot so I wont be to critical. I ordered the 1/2 chicken and ribs combo which came with garlic bread and baked potato. The chicken was juicy and tender! The potato was huge and good. They should have melted butter to pour over potato and garlic bread. The ribs were good..tender, I enjoyed the sauce. The garlic bread lacked flavor..it wasnt buttery or garlicky. I wanted to go into that kitchen and show them how to make bread worthy of this dish lol. Other then that, it was a good meal and I would come back to try their other items.

The place has BBQ in its named but by no means is this actual bar-b-que. First off, upon arriving to this place, there was no smell of that bbq smoke scent that you would expect from an actual bbq restaurant. We ordered the baby back ribs prices at $18 and a side of bbq bake beans. The beans were definitely canned bbq baked with only a slight hint of BBQ. The ribs were covered in a honey based BBQ sauce and the ribs themselves were chewy. I suspect the ribs were frozen ribs pertaining to be actually bbq ribs. If you are looking for bbq, dont come here.
