After a near-by round of golf, my Dad and I went to the Happy Apple Inn for his birthday dinner. We did not have reservations and upon entering the restaurant, it took about 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge our arrival. After the hostess finally showed up, we were promptly seated. The waitress took our orders and we made our way to the complementary salad bar. It was decent enough, nothing spectacular and a little cramped but it did the job. Had I known this would be the only food I would see in the next hour, I might have filled my plate a little more. For the next 55 minutes, we sat there awaiting the arrival of our fried calamari appetizer. I knew we were in trouble when the table next door waited the same amount of time for their shrimp cocktail. The calamari finally arrived, at the exact same time as our entrees. My dad ordered the Day Boat scallops and upon trying them myself, I can confirm that these were the absolute worst scallops Ive ever had in my life. Strange, pasty consistency and no flavor. I ordered the lamb chops, which were serviceable, but the "cranberry and mint" sauce had no discernable presence of either cranberry or mint. The twice baked potato alongside the lamb was awful. To be fair, the waitress removed the appetizer from the tab, due to the late arrival. Overall, this was an extremely disappointing dining experience. The service was lackluster and the food was equally so. For a restaurant charging fine dining prices, there is no excuse.

We just got home from the most awful experience we have have on an dinner out. we were seated at 4 pm, ordered at 4:10 pm and got got our meals at 5:10 pm. we waited neatly an hour for our entree. and then we waited for our desert another 20 minutes which we never got. They charged NY prices, $32.00 for a NY strip streak and the waitress handed me a container for me to wrap up the leftovers to take home. Did she deserve a tip? This restaurant needs to be referred to Robert Ervine of Food Network . They need his help. When I asked to speak to the manager, the bartender, Chris, that the manager was NOT there and that there was no one I could speak to about my complaints. So again the the customer is left with out any recourse. Welcome to America, Immalytown,NJ. Further, this place stinks, Shame on the owners. The decor, silverware and plastic glasses for water where not NY prices. It needs and complete gut job. It was hot and stinky on the second floor. The additional discomfort for the customers was that the second floor had no a/c. we were told "suffer". by the waitress.

I have been at this restaurant twice in the last 6 months. We arrive early, usually between 5 & 5:30 pm. I have had a Salmon dish , which was a special that evening, and their crabcakes. Both dishes were excellent. The crabcakes were moist, almost all crab meat with little filling. The salmon dish was broiled on a cedar plank & dressed with a Dijon mustard glaze. My wife always orders the queen cut Prime Rib. Both times done perfectly medium as she requested, with hardly no excess fat or gristle on the cut.I think their salad bar is excellent , with a good variety of vegetables & pasta salads. The area is a little cramped & I would imagine it could be a problem if the place is very crowded. The service has been good. Both times we were there the restaurant wasnt busy, maybe 4 tables occupied.

For anyone looking for an offbeat and interesting place to grab a drink thats close to the Horse Park of New Jersey, I recommend the Happy Apple Inn. I arrived just after the kitchen closed and the bartender offered to put together a salad plate for me. it was just a nice, relaxing, offbeat place to grab a beer and watch the Stupid Box. I suspect that the dining room is adequate. I was assured that they normally serve great burgers ("we grind our own meat") but I cant prove that.

Extremely dissatisfied. We had horrible service let management know in which all she could say is you should of told me sooner not sorry or anything. Also they charge per glass of tea so we ended up paying almost 20$ just for tea (absolutely absurd ). In which is not stated on the menu per glass. We will never return. It was very embarrassing for me because I recommended it.

Worst meal I ever had here. Clams oregano were so overcooked that the clam meat was totally dried up. Steak was so tough I left half of it. Around 8pm it seemed like they turned the heat off. People were grabbing their coats. Special Valentine menu with higher prices than their everyday menu. Place used to be a special dining experience . Gone down hill . Wont be back.

Very nice bar, nice restaurant and meal was very good as was the service. The restaurant has a bit of an early-bird/80s Ponderosa feel to it with the old-fashioned salad bar and plastic water glasses (which maywork well for them). I thought the entrees were a couple bucks more expensive than the locale, but they were very good. Id go back.

Initially looked like a nice place. Salad bar had soggy discolored lettuce. Food is overpriced with very slow food service. Steak ordered medium came well done. When the server was advised she was rude and gave an attitude stating that medium is different here. Service was also otherwise inattentive including failure to refill drinks.
