For Amature BBQ eaters (ie those that have never had REAL smoked BBQ) this place is for you. If you have the money to spend (its very expensive), its an ok local place to go. But if you have tasted real BBQ, and its obviouse that those that placed a review and said they do, actualy dont, then you will be very very disappointed. The brisket is processed. Its rubbery with no taste, no smoke rings, and you can tell that its shipped in frozen, thrown in to the oven heated and served. They do have wood out back that they use to smoke something, maybe the burgers, or dogs, but not the brisket for sure. Or maybe they just burn the wood to make you think they are smoking, except they are missing one thing. A smoke pit, Hmmm makes it kind of hard to serve authentic smoked BBQ with no smoke pit. Just saying. The potato salad had no taste, and had to add salt to the mac n cheese. No disrespect to NJ, but NJ is not know for its BBQ, The shore yes! BBQ no, so to say you placed 3rd in a NJ BBQ test, is not saying anything at all. I make an oven baked REAL brisket that tast better than what I paid $16 for. So again for amatures with money in your pocket, (lots of it) its close by, go for it, for people who KNOW BBQ dont waste your time, money or gas.

I took my family and friends to a local BBQ restaurant called "Local Smoke BBQ" in Cookstown, NJ just outside McGuire AFB. They claim to be a national competitor in the name of "Fat Angel BBQ". As a consumer I was greatly disappointed... All of the sides were COLD (not even warm), The ribs were charred black like they were put under a broiler for much too long, and the membrane was not removed which was like parchment paper glued to the back of the dry overcooked meat holding it in place on the bone. The brisket had the texture of dry sawdust in a pile and had no shape. The pulled pork dripped with water (Not meat juice) and was soggy and tasteless as if it were boiled. Like I said as a consumer I was deeply disappointed, I would be embarrassed to be associated with them in any manner. Needless to say that will be the last time any of the six couples will ever spend our money there ever again. The food was so bad I wouldnt go back for a free meal. This is my opinion of their products which I bought and tasted. It is really sad when one cannot take pride in their craft and strive for excellence, but rather they are more interested in selling poor quality foods for a quick dollar.

I hired Local Smoke BBQ to cater our daughters wedding August 2016. We held the event outdoors at a historic farm site in Princeton, NJ for 150 guests. Loren and Steve were a pleasure to work with both during the planning and execution. While I did not get to enjoy the cocktail hour, since we were having pictures taken, I received rave reviews from the guests on the passed hors doeuvres (Jalapeno Poppers, Grilled Chicken Skewers and Grilled Shrimp). I made a point of getting a sample of each of the entrees (beef brisket, pulled pork, chicken and Portobello Mushrooms) and sides (Mixed Greens Salad, Mac n Cheese and Grilled Vegetables). Everything was delicious. They even took care of setting up some of the dessert items that I had made/brought in addition to what they provided. Their serving staff did an outstanding job replenishing the drink dispensers and cleaning up along the way. They achieved everything that I had hoped for and I would definitely recommend them to anyone planning a large event.

Ive tried the Neptune location today and noticed various improvements from my previous review of their Cookstown location. The pulled pork tastes much better, its less soaked from the sauce, so I could taste the pork and the smoke hint from it, like wise for the ribs. Overall it was pretty good and liked it pretty much this time. I was hoping for more of a taste of a more kind of "real BBQ", which is a bit more heavily smoked and longer cooked that way, with a finishing touch of char grilling but this was decent the way it is, weve got to remember that they might have to adjust for the locals... some people cant stand even a little more smoky taste, so considering that Ill give them 4 stars instead of 3. Beware though! THIS IS NOT the place for the hardcore Qers... but if they do open a actual pit one day, Im sure theyd bring their A game.

Love this place. I work close by and my coworkers and I order from here a lot. We usually order at their busiest time of day and have never had any mistakes. My favorites would definitely be the pulled pork and red skin potato salad. Their burgers are really good too. Love the different BBQ sauces. the jalapeno poppers are one of my favorites too. Their ribs arent my favorite and sometimes the mac and cheese bites are a little dried out. Other than that, this is one of my favorite local places to get lunch when u feel like eating everything in sight!

Having heard the hype about Local Smoke my wife and I went to their location in Cookstown. All I can say is WOW! Pulled Pork and Brisket were unreal. The Mac-n-Cheese was awesome. Got a chance to meet one of the owners and got the history of how Local Smoke came to be. Needless to say I have these guys catering my annual company 4th of July BBQ. They are rolling the smoker into the parking lot and cooking for my 80 employees. CAN"T WAIT. Also heard they are opening a location in Neptune. Great BBQ in NJ.

We have been there twice as a family and it was terrible both times. The only thing thats good are the wings, surprisingly. The barbecue is awful. Their barbecue tastes like vinegar and is overcooked to the point of being a pile of red mush. Repulsive and neither my husband nor myself could stomach it. Also WAY overpriced for an order at the counter style bbq joint. Wouldnt have gone back a second time if hadnt been with friends who wanted to try it.

Local Smoke is 5-Star in every category. Even better than other 5-Star professional BBQ establishments Ive been to in North Carolina and Louisiana. Their Carolina Pork Sauce is off-the-chart awesome. Try the poppers! Ribs are the best I have ever had, bar none. The only thing that would make this place better would be outdoor picnic benches, but thats why they have take-out, right?

Good brisket and chicken...collard greens are fantastic! Not soggy, and not boiled to mush...they are juicy but firm! Buy a couple of pints. The pulled pork is a little bland and the BBQ sauce is good but is kind of standard, so the best thing to do, in my opinion, is to get their two meat platter with Brisket and Chicken and then pick up a bunch of sides.

Nothing super spectacular about this eatery. Prices were a little higher than i would have liked for the quality of the food and service. The process reminds me of a Hardees where you order at the counter and someone will bring the food out to you. The food was good, but not outstanding. I waited about 24 minutes for a burger and chips.

Super moist sliced Brisket & killer pulled pork. BTW, I suggest you try the Carolina sauce with your pork, its superb! The slaw & potato salad was good but the mac & cheese was a bit to plain (imo).. it needed a little Bacon or maybe a little smoke. But its a bbq joint, so who gives a crap about mac & cheese. The meat rocked!! A+
