I decided to try the Latin American Restaurant— not to be confused with the similarly named Latin America Restaurant on Market Street— on the recommendation of a friend who tried it as part of a class assignment about a month ago. She highly recommended it, and so I had high hopes upon going there yesterday— for reference, Friday, April 14th. I can honestly say I was not disappointed. My friend had recommended that I either call and order ahead of time or go after lunch. Apparently the place gets pretty packed, and so I waited until about 2:30 before heading over. There were few people there, and all but one of the tables— there are only four— were unoccupied. I took a few friends along with me, and the one— a native Spanish speaker— began talking with the staff, all of whom were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Because the restaurant is in Camden, I think it is important to note that not only was the staff friendly, but the restaurant was also very clean and well taken care of. Nor did I ever once feel uncomfortable or unsafe in the area. There’s a lot of stigma surrounding the city— at least, surrounding neighborhoods that aren’t downtown— that prevent people from venturing to businesses like the Latin American Restaurant, but this shouldn’t prevent one from trying some of the local restaurants. As I mentioned above, it was nearly empty, and so our only wait was for our meals to be put together. I ordered a boneless grilled chicken breast and black rice, while my friends tried the fried chicken, steak, mofongo, and plantains. For those of you who may not find any of those choices appetizing, they also offer pork, goat, and ribs, along with some seafood. I cannot speak for my friends— although I can say they all seemed to have really enjoyed their meals— but I thought the food was great. The chicken was well-cooked, juicy, and flavorful, and I loved the black rice, which also included black beans mixed in. Overall, I would recommend trying the Latin American Restaurant whenever you get a chance. So many people in the area frequent Chipotle, Pancheros, Qdoba, and On the Border on a regular basis, yet never even think to try authentic hispanic food. Instead of going to one of the aforementioned chains, next time you get a craving for hispanic food take a trip to the Latin American Restaurant. I’m sure you’ll find it very much worth your time.

Gracias

The Latin American Restaurant provided an overall enjoyable experience for myself and the people who accompanied me. The food was delicious and relatively cheap as well as very filling. Since I ended up going there at around lunch time, it seemed to be a very busy place at this time of day. The only downside that the restaurant itself has is the space and seating. It seemed to me as more of a take out restaurant than some place meant to stay and eat. But, if you dont mind the cramped seating then this would be the ideal place to eat for someone who has plenty of time and is in the mood for some Latin American food.

When Im in the area, I usually stop by here for a quick meal. Ambiance: You order at the counter and they give you a number to take back to your table. Its a seat yourself kind of place. Food: Lomo saltado is a must! The beef sauteed with the fries is amazing. The rice its served with is perfect to soak up the sauce. You must try the salsas, but they are really spicy. Service: all the servers and cashiers are all polite. Its a seat yourself kind of place, so not much to say on the service.

Food is good. Was charged $12.00 instead of $10 for the grilled chicken. The prices on the menu said $10. Didnt really want to get in a dispute. If that is the case, they should change the menu going forth to resolve any issues. $12 is a considerable amount for 1 chicken.

Latin American catered our wedding and honestly, thats all people talked about...how good the food was! And it got decimated - nothing left because people kept going back and back for more food. THank you for making our wedding a memorable event!.

Good food average prices. As a English only speaker I wish more of the staff spoke English. However, I keep going back because it has the best Spanish food in the area.
