I have been going to the 7th regularly for a few years now. Here are a few things that I truly enjoy: The Beer - If you are a beer drinker and enjoy the micro brew trend of the last decade then you are in for a treat here. The 7th routinely has multiple varieties on tap and changes their selection often enough to be interesting but not so often that you will miss out on your favorite if you dont stop by every week. The Staff - I have typically gone mid-week when it can be fairly busy and have always been treated well by the staff. Whenever I have had concerns about food or drink, theyve always erred on the side of taking care of the customer, without an attitude. The Food - They typically have multiple specials per week as well as some standbys. Since I usually go for trivia night and have already eaten, I tend to get the lighter fare. The fish tacos are one of my favorite dishes whereas the beer roasted peanuts are a solid standby when enjoying a frosty beverage. The downsides? These are items that I find could use some work, though not all of these are able to be controlled. Big name beers - Though not an issue for me, some people just want a Bud Light or a Sam Summer Ale on occasion. Why you would be drinking one of those at a brew pub is beyond me but, for those with a taste for the name brands, youll not find them here. Reservation Policy - This is a curious one. There have been times where Ive been told the 7th allows reservations and conversely does not allow reservations. This is not too big of a problem if you have a small group (4 or less) but when traveling with 6-8 people could become an issue. A clarification of the reservation policy with the staff and the clientele would be a positive. Verdict - The 7th Settlement is a great place for a good tasting meal at a reasonable price for the area and type of establishment. You will receive good service and be able to sample a fine variety of beer. Give them a shot; I think youll be pleased.

I hate to be negative, since its great to have a local restaurant in such a nice space, but, after reading all the glowing reviews, I had to add some balance. Granted Ive only had one meal (lunch) here, but while the service was enthusiastic, I found the food and beer mediocre at best, and portion size skimpy. The $11 chicken club sandwich got most of its thickness from two slices of an odd, focaccia-like bread---isnt a club sandwich supposed to have two layers? Isnt that what makes it a club sandwich?---with cold bacon that looked (and tasted) as though it had been cooked hours before and thinly-sliced chicken, some of which was undercooked (i.e., red). The accompanying cole slaw was served in a container barely largely than a thimble, providing perhaps two full bites at most. Our server was very accommodating about giving us samples of the three house beers on tap (the Winter Wheat, the Untz, and one more that I cant recall); unfortunately, all were disappointing in taste, to my mind, sharing an immature quality and a strange thin finish. Ive been to Cologne and tasted real Kölsch; to call the Untz even "Kölsch-style" is a bit of a stretch, and, in general, 7th Settlements beer offering dont seem close to the mark set by other local breweries such as Smuttynose. When we first sat down we got the spiel about the food all being locally-grown, etc. Thats admirable but the proof, as they say is in the pudding, and the pudding, IMO, isnt quite there yet.

Fantastic local brewpub right in the middle of downtown Dover. Located in a very cool renovated mill space, its a nice place to grab a beer or take family or friends for a meal. They put a big emphasis on community and their food is farm-to-table, sourced from local farms. Because of this, their menu has a number of daily specials that change on a day-to-day basis, based on what foods they get in that day. However, they do have a list of standard menu items as well. Everything Ive had there has been delicious, especially the chowder, which also just won best chowder in the annual Portsmouth chowder festival. Best of all, they make everything from scratch, all the way down to the condiments, and all their breads are baked in-house. Being a brewpub, this wouldnt be a proper review without mentioning the beer. Their in-house beers are actually brewed by 2 separate brewers, both operating independently. The first is 7th Settlements brewers and the others are from OneLove Brewery, which subleases brewing time in their brewery. They both generally focus on different styles of beer, but from the ones Ive had, theyve all been pretty tasty. Plus, they have a unique offering where you can get a french press and fresh hops to add to your beer. Overall, 7th Settlement has become a local favorite of my wife and I and we regularly visit for food and drinks. A welcome addition to downtown Dover!

We dropped in Saturday night, no reservations, sat at the bar, found it comfortable, good bartenders, good beers, Staff was happy (which is a concern when dining out). Our vegetarian easily found a creative, thoughtfully prepared meal from the regular menu. We had different noodles which all were delicious and which they make from scratch, and their home made ketchup ( we had good fries, too) is worth buying by the bottle (which you can do). I had Apple Squash Pottage and roasted beet salad (which I highly recommend when its offered, as Chef Taylor prepares foods in season). Also, we had Stout ice cream (from their own brew)! You have to try it! This was a surprisingly good experience. Although we ordered rather gourmet from their menu, the burgers looked great. We plan to travel from our homes in Rhode Island and Massachusetts to eat their again. Not one bite was mediocre! Great place.

The restaurant itself is beautiful. Attention was taken to preserve the original mill building. But, it was hard to have a conversation because it was so loud. Since opening, the menu has all but abandoned the farm to table format in place of more bar food. The offerings were limited. The water brought to our table was warm and we had no silverware and none was offered; we stole from an empty table. Our server was pleasant but not exactly on the ball. She seemed overwhelmed, even though it was not an especially busy night. We were asked to repeat our orders after they were put in. My personal drink order was wrong twice. I cant recall a time when I have had to wait longer for food. No crackers or bread for the table (even as a menu option) made the wait seem even longer.

Restaurant and brewery set inside Dovers Cochecho cotton Mill. Large, sprawling 20+ seat bar with shared table seating in parallel. Dining tables in back. Always a diverse selection of in-house brewed beers on tap with a collection of craft cocktails and local spirits. Fixed (doesnt change often) Farm-to-Table inspired menu offering signature burgers, eclectic sandwiches, and hearty entrees - most all made with local meats (not much here for vegetarians, sorry! Even the chocolate cake has bacon!) No TVs, which is truly unheard of in Dover, but is a welcomed omission to the dining atmosphere.
