Undoubtedly the best place in town. The place to see and be seen. The food (contrary to some observers here), is phenomenal, and it might seem a little pricy, but good food is (and should be) plus you are paying for the embiance, too, and for that, the prices are definitely right.)
I had the crab cake appetizer a couple weeks ago, then had the some order at a competing establishment up Main Street a week later. The difference was staggering! The Aleworks version was one of the best I'd ever had. The competitor's was adequate, meaning it was good, and reasonably priced. But Aleworks is the best contemporary cuisine in town, bar none.
If you don't mind dropping a couple extra dollars per guest, this is the "must-go" place in Bozeman.
One caution: the bar is usually packed, and thus the bar service is often quite slow. They just can't fit all more bar staff they need into the space provided (and yet the bar area is still quite large.) So expect to wait for drinks, and especially for food, if you are in there from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm Wednesday through Saturday.

I have dined here on three different occasions. My boys and I have tried the bison melt, bison burger, Rueben, enchiladas, parmesan fries with truffle oil, tater tots, Crack Pie, warm skillet cookie and ice cream, and warm peach crumble with ice cream. The desserts area okay, but not what they do best. The enchiladas are the best mexican Ive had since moving to Montana. Our other favorite is the bison meatloaf. Reflecting its moniker, this restaurant has a plethora of specialty ales, mixed drinks, and also wine. Each time we have visited, this establishment has been turning a brisk business. Despite this, we have never waited more than 15 minutes, and our drinks and food have been delivered promptly. Exemplary service from each of our wait staff personnel further enhanced or enjoyment. Three meals, two desserts, a soda, and a glass of wine ran about $85 plus tip. I have this total very economical for such a quality encounter.

We actually ate here twice during our 4 day stay, that is how good the food was! Our waiter the first time there set the bar pretty high. He knew the drink menu incredibly well and made some excellent suggestions for both food and drinks based off of our groups interest. The waiter the second time was not as helpful, but still knew the menu well. The second time was a little busier than the first, so it is safe to assume the second waiter simply didnt have the time to tease out the "likes" of the group. The food both times was absolutely amazing. The menu is great because they have a wide variety of interesting and appetizing items that vary from burgers to venison to pad thai. You simply must have the bison potstickers and the dessert menu deserves a look as well! We had a great experience here and I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Honestly one of the best, if not the best burgers Ive ever had in my life. My husband and I just ate at Montana Ale Works and it was a great experience. We ordered calamari and it was the best weve ever tried. It was fresh and perfectly cooked. The dipping sauces they offered with it were both great! My husband got a black & blue bison burger and I got the Jake burger which is topped with avocado, ranch, and jalapeño salsa. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The fries were also super yummy as they were sprinkled with parmesan cheese. The only reason we are opting for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the Big Sky Nitro Heavy Horse Ale my husband ordered was terrible! It was so thin and tasteless. The other 3 drinks we ordered were all incredible. Overall we loved the atmosphere, drinks and food. We would definitely go back again.

If I could give it no stars I would. We were driving through on vacation and thought it looked like a good place to eat. WRONG! Way overpriced for small portions that werent even as good as Wendys. Paid a premium for "American" Wagyu burger that was undercooked and tasted like it came out of a tube of meat from Walmart. My sons burger the "Jake" was served with slices of hard unripened avocado on it. To top it all off, we had the privilege of meeting one of the managers Becca, who would be better served with a career as a public defender or debt collector. Oh, and the overpriced desserts were very disappointing. Weve traveled all over this country and eaten at hundreds of restaurants. This place must have awesome beer, otherwise we have no clue how they stay in business.

AWFUL!!!! I would give them zero stars if possible. My son is a picky eater, so nothing on the kids menu he would eat. We simply asked for 2 strips of bacon, to tide him over until we could get home. We were then informed we would have to order a whole entree to get the bacon. I had ordered a burger and requested that bacon be added to my burger on the side. I was told that was not possible after the waitress several trips to the kitchen.....who cant put bacon on the side????!! Not only that, but no explanation why. I will not be returning for poor customer service again.

A great experience across the board. For the price this is the best kitchen in Bozeman and they have the best beer selection to boot. They typically have 2 beers on nitro and 1 on cask but unfortunately the cask beer seems to always be an IPA. Id really like a brown or a porter on cask but they sell their IPAs so business wise I guess it makes sense. Great steaks, burgers, fish, salads, deserts, apps. Happy hour is good. Reservations only for the separate white table cloth room. Otherwise expect to play the waiting game or hunt for bar seats.

While they brag that they have an impressive selection of beer, I found the list to be quite small and simple. Many other places in Bozeman have a much more complex beer list. Besides the beer I was put off by the service. I felt that most of the staff was elitist and pretentious. When we called ahead they said that the place was not busy but when our party came in the hostess told us that we wouldnt be able to be seated for 20 minutes. They were able to seat us within ten minutes but it was not a warm welcome.

Gigantic beer selection for the out of town visitor that wants to try everything that Montana has to offer. Good food too and pretty decent specials. Nice and large too, so you can likely get a table or a seat at the bar relatively quickly. I might avoid the outdoor seating area as it gets close to dusk. I got swarmed by mosquitoes while out there. The staff was RIDICULOUSLY accommodating though and let me shift inside. They should be given bonuses..

the food is good, however the food took more than 2 hours to come out and when my family and I were leaving, a busier came through the walking space and rudely asked us to move out of the way, we began to and the guy was so impatient he once again yelled at us but louder and more furucioulsy. if they are keeping people like this on staff and not firing or punishing them, then I would say it is not worth going

Great beer. This place is fantastic for groups, and is usually where I suggest to go when we have 8 or more. Service varies depending on how busy they are (and they can get REALLY busy). Pool tables are fantastic. Wait staff is very laid back and fun to be around. Menu is limited, but everything is delicious, so that isnt a complaint. This place knows what they can do, and they do it very well.
