There is a serious Echo/noise problem in front of bar when the place is full. Need to install some tile, tapestries, drapes or foam insulation somewhere to reduce the amount of noise that is bouncing around. The entire restaurant ambience is effected by that area. The food is usually great... But the last time I went there the meat was way too salty. My girlfriends dinner was so salty we had to ask them to take it back. It took 20 minutes to get another prepared so we just got it to go. My meat was also really salty but not as bad as hers. Weve been there 3 times and this was the only bad experience. Also the guy refilling the water seemed like he had nothing better to do than try to take my plates before I was done eating... Not sure why. But usually the food is great and the waitresses are awesome for sure so the customer service and consistency of the food make it worth going back as long as the saltychef has learned to season the meat less.

Italian food in the United States.... How can I begin... For the most part, it is a battle over what types of Chicken Alfredo and Bolognese pastas we can force down the gullets of each and every American with the occasional frill to entice folks to return (e.g. buy one, get one sales, coupons for days, unlimited breadsticks). But every so often, you find a place that does not sell-out to over-caloried, over-buttered dishes and focuses on the essence of Italian cuisine - a warm and caring mixture of pastas, seafood, and adventurous flavors. I Nonni hits this mark with amazing execution while providing a scintillating environment plucked from the 1950s Sinatra days of yore. Enjoy a glass of proseco or a wonderfully mixed martini while perusing a menu that takes great pride in authenticating Italian food in the United States.

Eating here was a special experience, special as in when I was there I felt as if I was there and nowhere else, as in nothing that came across my palate seemed like it wasnt a vision realized. The person behind the bar was lackluster but one of the managers (owner? he seemed very invested and passionate) was so vigilant and proactive in terms of filling the gaps that the experience was perfect and seamless. The meal etched itself into me and thats the easiest way for me to articulate it.

Ive been to Italy and eaten all over Italy from little out of the way family restaurants to popular restaurants. I can definitively say that I Nonni is the closest thing to my time in Italy. My wife and I go as much as we can. There is no comparison right now in MN to authentic Italian food. Their calamari is the best ive had here in MN. Beef carpacio and their steam muscles in brodo is to die for!

I dont write many reviews, but I Nonni is amazing! Tommy, the sommelier, is the best! Knowledgeable about Vinod from Italy, France, US! We walk down and the staff is always friendly and so personable! Been to Rome and if you havent tried I Nonni you dont know what you are missing! Ambiance, food and vino, great hidden treasure in Mendota Heights/Lilydale.

Staff in the bar seemed overwhelmed with a very small crowd. Ordered a dirty martini that came out "clean". The hostess made a terrible impression. She told us that the outdoor seating was full and suggested she place on the wait list, she very quickly seated another couple without checking with us first.

Charming and cozy atmosphere. The semi-circle booths are an especially nice touch. Its also easy to see why they consistently receive "Top Italian Awards." The food is quitenssential Italian with a rotating seasonal menu that keeps things fresh.

The service is superb and the food is delicious! Its got a very romantic ambience perfect for first dates or anniversaries. The carrot cake is SO good with a sweet cream cheese frosting filling. It comes out warm and is super moist. -drools-

Do you like Awesome Italian food??? I do and I love this place. If you wann just pick up and go try Buon Giorno Italian Deli located right next door. Big wine cellar or seller you be the judge. The short Ribs and Sea bass are amazing.

Having been here a couple times, the first with a groupon a few years back, Id note that I Nonni is a bit of a sleeper. Its a very good option for a special occasion with fine Italian dining and a great wine selection.

This is a great little restaurant with a nice quiet/romantic ambiance. Even if you arent a pasta fan, they have an AMAZING short ribs entree.

Totally disorganized and poor service. We waited in line as people just walked passed us. The servers were just oblivious to situation.
