We had the WORST meal we have EVER had in any restaurant. This is the first time I have ever submitted a restaurant review in my life, but feel it is necessary. After waiting for our meal in a very, very cold booth (air conditioning way too cold), for 45 minutes, our fish & chips arrived looking great! We were very hungry and eager to enjoy a good meal. WRONG! Batter was way too thick, and tasted greasy and had a strange flavor. We peeled off batter only to discover the fish was so bland it had absolutely NO flavor! The sauce & vinegar helped a little, but we did not go out to eat a $12 meal trying to add flavor by slathering bland fish with sauce. The fries were just so-so. I had mashed potatoes with my fish, and they were barely warm. The waitress was nice, but when she collected our plates noticing most all of our meal was left in piles on our plates, we assumed she was hesitant to ask "how was your meal"...i Just as I was about to say something to her, she flew off on another mission. We were going to write a note on our receipt, but the pen we were given did not work well enough to write more than a signature. We told our son DO NOT GO TO HI-LO DINER! WORST MEAL EVER! Our granddaughter ordered a grilled cheese which was fine, but fries need some help! After reading and hearing so much about your new diner, we were anxious to try it. We will never go back and will certainly share our experience with our friends. Sad but true! OUR CHECK #40048

Its a Sunday - we knew it would be busy. My boyfriend and I ventured in to see how long the wait would be. Walking in, we stood for about 5 minutes as two bratty millennials completely ignored us. We were not greeted other than an "Excuse me" as one of them walked off rolling her eyes. We awkwardly stood there until the hostess told us we could be seated right away outside. She threw our menus onto a high-top bench outside with the sun directly in our eyes - and no shade. She did not bother to ask if we minded roasting in the sun. We asked to be re-seated when our waiter arrived. His words and I quote, "Well, theres no where else to sit." There were 8 other chairs completely open which we pointed to. More eye rolls later and we were greeted by a server who appeared completely lethargic, depressed, and hungover. Awful. Just awful. We didnt stick around for the food, which I assume is good based upon popular survey, but the inferior service left a bad taste in my mouth, a taste bad enough that even the best breakfast couldnt rid me of. We strolled down the road to Peppers and Fries. MUCH friendlier, same pricing, better seating, and I am assuming equally good food. I highly recommend it.

This is long, sorry. If you want a classic diner experience with great food, this is not the place for either. Menu names, descriptions and ingredients made little sense, even less when you actually ate them. I had the crispy chicken sandwich, maybe the bacon slaw would have made sense if I could have tasted something other than fish and I really dont like fish. Someone had the fish and chips which she could only describe as the worst shes ever had. Another had the meatloaf which she described as different, it came in 2 very different looking pieces and tasted exactly like breakfast sausage. The other had the Tex Mex burrito which he said was good, but he likes just about anything so who knows. Fries and service were both good. Still feel sick thinking about that fishy chicken though. I also thought prices were high for a diner, ridiculously so considering the quality, almost over $10 for anything and an $8 milk shake which I did not order. I also didnt understand all the aluminum navy chairs in the entrance but they couldnt replace the last few 1992 Taco Bell chairs? We were excited to try it and none of us will again.

Food: Wow! Service: Great! Atmosphere: KILL. ME. NOW. Bring earplugs to drown out the inane yammering of the self-important and tragically hip as they shout at each other. The food...it hardly belongs in Minnesota it so packed with flavor. The spiced turkey... smokey with perfect heat...enough to enhance the multidimensional flavors and leave that pleasant tingling sensation on the lips. Id go back and just order that turkey, just by itself, a big damn bowl of it. The fries were crisp on the outside with fluffy goodness in the middle, with again a more flavorful dusting of spice than youd expect. These fries needed a more interesting dip than ketchup though, a remoulade sauce would be divine or a curry gravy. And I cant say enough about the cheerful and knowledgeable staff. Prompt, thoughtful and thorough. BUT this is not a PTSD friendly place, its LOUD , its close quarters with obnoxious people, and the lighting is just gross at night (think swamp-thing nightmare). Maybe its different on a sunny day and outside on their patio. Or if they do take out. Then it might be worth it.

Attractive new diner style restaurant This new restaurant is a renovated "diner car" style eatery and is attracting crowds. Still, you can get in on lunch hour with only a small wait. Its very attractive with lots of gleaming chrome. Theres outdoor seating in back. The menu is a cut above a diner menu (plus theres cocktails, wine and beer) I have only eaten there once (but were going back). My crispy chicken was a dry chicken breast but a very good brioche style bun and a very good cole slaw topping was excellent, but I wouldnt bother with it again. Another really liked the flavor of her plain hamburger; another enjoyed his scrambled eggs. The hit at the table though was the Hash Stuffed Hash - hash browned potatoes with peppers, sliced corned beef and caramelized onions, 2 eggs and hollandaise sauce. It looked and was terrific , according to the lucky man that ordered it. Two who had the coffee thought it was terrific (Peace Coffee, Twin Cities blend). The price was reasonable and the service excellent. Small parking lot with lots more on street parking.

Went there for a birthday dinner with 4 others. My Crispy Chicken sandwich was very good, tender juicy chicken with a crispy crust, topped with cole slaw and a fresh bun, but the fries were just "ok", being heavy and bit soggy. Dinner Salad with added Chicken was also very good, fresh greens, crispy chicken, but dressing was nasty. Got the Ceasar dressing and it was grayish and tasted chalky, so we asked for a Ranch dressing but were told they didnt carry Ranch...who doesnt have Ranch dressing, smh. Burger and fries, not so good, most of it was left uneaten. Grandson had a kids meal and his French toast and Sausage were good, the scrambled eggs he didnt like, I tried them and they had an odd flavor, tasted like they had been cooked with the burgers, etc. The food is overpriced and the quality of some items could be better. The kids meal was priced fairly because he got a lot of food. Servers were attentive and asked how the food was and yes it is loud in there, but not that bad. I will give them another try.
