DEPLORABLE BEYOND BELIEF!!! Had lunch there yesterday (July 16th), Hostess just sat looking bored, table was filthy even after it was supposedly cleaned. I had to remove a small placard from the table only to find that it was basically glued in place by the sticky table (someone haphazardly washed over it making the decision, TO LEAVE IT). I had to ask someone for a wet towel, the young lady cleaned it for a second time! The Waitress was at least very nice, brought us our soda pop which we had to send back because either it was diet or old product in the lines lacking CO2, TERRIBLE! A server brought a large tray of food whereas he sat the tray down behind my guest head and it touched her hair (wow). The FOOD WAS DISGUSTING AS TO ITS PRESENTATION AND TASTE. I took a bite of the hamburger and was interrupted by a staff member whom said he had to take my plate as I was given the wrong plate (missing bacon per my order, fries were on the plate instead of cole slaw). The replaced plate again had french fries when i had asked for cole slaw instead. Meanwhile my guest, did not receive the mushrooms as requested, so a cup of mushrooms was brought down to the table only they were cold. My hamburger bun was not toasted and was gummy, meat was super subpar and was certainly made from a frozen patty; charging high prices for awful bar food is a rip-off and deliberate as to focusing on profits and giving the customer no value-- terrible business paradigm (you burned us once but you will never get the chance to do it again) . My guest and on ate a portion of the meal only to say, this is garbage product, prepared poorly, served poorly!!! Now I have to walk around the place to find the Manager, finally after being paged he arrives to speak with me looking disheveled and having a even worse people skills-- he never introduces himself (latter told his name is Paul), gives me a hard time about what is the problem? I bring him back to the table and myself and guest explain the issues and show him the sorry excuse product still on the plate. He storms off stating "Ill take care of it". I have no idea what he meant by that (as he was rude and obnoxious). We sat at the table feeling humiliated; finally the waitress comes to the table with the bill, I ask if the the manager spoke to her about the issue(s) at hand-- she responded "no". She left our table to seek out said manager; hence having spoken to the manager came back and said there is no charge for the meals. We decided to tip her as we felt she did everything she professionally could in the wake of the madness of this event. We departed the table and at least had a fantastic time watching Mitch Alboms play entitled Hockey the Musical. I was latter told that the issue with poor food happens ALL THE TIME! REALLY! then why is management ignoring the obvious and letting the horrific conduct and practices to continue-- I dont appreciate being used as a guinea pig experiment! I felt sick after consuming the partial meal- Im fine now but maybe the board of health should be looking at this so called business! I would recommend staying away from this place with regard to food and drink otherwise order beverages from the can! How in the devil do you screw up every aspect of what happens in a restaurant- either one lacks the competent skills to lead and carry out duties with professionalism or you just have a wanton disregard about yourself let alone your customers! Either way--its pathetic!!!

We entered the Hockeytown cafe at 8:00pm and taken directly to our table along with another couple. We were the second table sat in the dining room. Our severer was very pleasant with her greeting and I thought to myself that we were about to have a nice dining experience. Well after waiting 30 minutes for a Reuben sandwich and a B.L.T., our server approached the table and said that our food would be right out. Well for the next twenty minutes we watched everyone in the dining room receive their meals as we continued to wait. We waited an additional 20 minutes when our server approached the table and promised us that our food would be right out. With-in the next five minutes our food finally arrived. I picked my Reuben up and not only was the meat and cheese ice cold, the bread on the top was dried out from sitting under a heat lamp and the bread on the bottom was soggy. The B.L.T sandwich was cold as well. I then flagged our server down and said that our meals were cold. She returned them to the kitchen and with-in ten minutes we were finally eating a hot meal. Yeah!!! The manager stood the entire time between the staircase to the kitchen and the greeter’s station, totally unaware that our dining experience was a complete disappointment. The server however did remove our sodas informing us that the least she could do. I would say "NOT!!!" We will be writing a letter to the owner/s to share our experience, but I dont believe we will be dining their anytime in the near future. I am so over going out to establishments, paying good money for the product they are selling (food and service) and receiving products at subpar and less. Customer service is disappearing fast. When we read that restaurants are closing their doors, the reason would be that they have forgotten the old world charm when restaurants built a relationship with their customers by personalizing their service and making sure that every customer left with a good taste in their mouth. SORRY Hockeytown people need to be informed as to the type of service they will not be receiving at you establishment. 02/27/2010 11:04pm This is what you are really selling and nothing more. SAD!!! Hockeytown Cafe is known for its sports memorabilia. Hockeytown Cafe features numerous satellite sports packages so fans can catch almost any game on one of more than 20 63-inch plasma screen TV’s. - From the owner

After seeing a show at the Fox Theater, the convenience of the Hockeytown Cafe next door was too nice to pass up. Once being seated, it took over a half hour to get food. Once the food came, it was cold. We had a steak panini, fettuccini alfredo, and a kids order of hot dog with mac and cheese. The panini was okay - lettuce looked old, the alfredo was like soup, and the hot dog/mac looked like Kraft brand boxed and a poor quality, almost gray colored looking hot dog. The waitress did take the food back when we complained that nothing was hot. It took an additional 15 minutes to get the food again. The food was a little warmer, but not by much. We did have dessert, which was a chocolate tuxedo mousse. The dessert was small and was nearly $7. The size was about two inches across, and it was unbelievable the cost per the seven or so bites. It wasnt that good! The service was poor, as it took way too much time to get food, get the dessert, then get the check. All in all, we were there for over an hour and a half. The food was so poor that on the way home, my wife and I started getting sick. I almost did not make it home before getting sick. I spent the next thirty minutes in the bathroom due to what felt like food poisoning. My wife was lucky we have a second bathroom - it hit her at the same time! If you are a hockey fan, the atmosphere is a must - take pictures, enjoy the drinks. BUT DONT EAT THE FOOD! I will never eat there again. I caution anyone reading this to not waste their money - there are so many great restaurants in Detroit that you can choose from.
