Ive visited this location. My experience was great. This review is for the new Avalon Cafe & Bakery location on Woodward in downtown Detroit. The new location recently opened on April 14. In true Avalon style, this location is vibrant combined with great service & food. I usually order a sweet treat, not this visit. I ordered the Sausage Biscuit. This is NOT your average sandwich. Oooh the sausage taste homemade with fennel seed and other savory seasonings. It is then set on top of a baked egg that is topped with cheese. Lastly, these yummy components are nestled between a fluffy, made from scratch buttery southern biscuit with a slathering of aioli. $8 at first glance seems high until you see & taste what youre getting. Well worth it!

Chocolate Chip Sea Salt cookies, bread of the month, brioche, brownies, blonde brownies, vegan handpies for dinner, some great coffee, after a walk around Eastern Market this was awesome to sit, sip and relax. Avalon you are the heart that started Midtown revival, please never leave, my grandson loves coming there in the summer after market and eating PB and fresh fruit Sammies. He is only 4, it wont be long before it wont be cool to hang with Gaga, so hopefully you stick around for a long time!! I will come alone then and you can soothe my broken heart with chocolate chip sea salt and coffee while I sip and relive memories!❤

I come here for the breads, you cannot best their fresh and moist delicacies. The texture and taste beat out supermarket breads any day of the week. The breads here are all made with quality ingredients, youre not buying disgusting "enriched" bread packed with preservatives. Youre getting some legit bread man! The prices arent too steep, but they arent exactly cheap. Youre getting quality here. I love the rye personally, the chewy outer shell, and its soft and delicious interior has me hungry just thinking about it. Stop by if youre nearby and check it out, the smell might attract you regardless.

Avalon was the first place I stopped to eat in Detroit and from the moment I stepped out of the rain, I was in love. There is an amazing array of baked goods ranging from sweet to savory. My first visit I got a focaccia and blueberry creme brioche roll. Both were absolutely delicious! My second visit I got the veggie quiche, coffee cake, and a coffee. All of which I thoroughly enjoyed. The quiche was perfect.

Earth, Community, Employees (their little slogan). Food was delicious, however I have a buddy that used to work there and I know first hand how bad they treat their employees. Slow raises, favoritism, nepatism, mismanagement and white washing. Management makes all the money while others struggle to make ends meat....If a company cant pay a living wage then that company doesnt deserve to be in business-F.D.R.

I first bought the trail mix cookie years ago at Whole Foods out in Ann Arbor. I loved it so much I looked up where it was made and was shocked to find the bakery so close to home. Now I return for the garden sandwich and the wonderful variety of baked goods available. I have never had something I did not like. It is exciting to be able to have a variety of vegan foods available to me!

Detroits most famous bakery! All flour is organic, and sourced locally whenever possible. You will love whatever you order, but you should try the flourless chocolate cake and the date bar. Store is rustic, and the location is walking distance from many local attractions. Its a pricey bakery, but I cant stop from going back!

I love Avalon - its got wonderful bread, baked goods, and sandwiches (made with none other than their homemade bread!). The atmosphere of this place is so friendly and down-to-earth, and you can tell that the employees are valued and enjoy working there. Their slogan, "eat well and do good," shows!

Excellent stolen bread. I drove down to the bakery on Christmas Eve morning and had no problem parking at the bakery and the area was quiet. Wonderful experience and, although they were clearly busy preparing for the days rush, the lady at the counter took time to help me and was a joy to speak to.

Theyve got a handful of delicious gluten free options (they dont say so because they are aware of the contamination aspect, so if youre very sensitive, know that they dont claim gluten free so much as wheat free ingredients). Great baked goods, wonderful environment, lovely coffee.

This is the best bakery in Detroit. They have a ton of fresh breads and cookies. They all made with organic flour and they are delicious. The also have sandwiches to go and coffee from Great Lakes Coffee. Their customers service is really good. I really recommend this place.

Everyone raves about the sea salt chocolate chip cookies and they are absolutely wonderful BUT the pecan chocolate chip is where its at! Cant go wrong with avocado toast or any of their sandwiches. My daughters love the baked goods and I know its made w quality ingredients.

Even though they were closing early and didnt have their regular menu due to their AC being out, they treated everyone to a great heat wave/closing early special. My coffee with a splash of cream, honey, and a dash of cinnamon was phenomenal, and only about $2 to boot!

The label reads: "Wheaty Wheat: Best Avalon bread for whole grains!" I agree! And the addition of sourdough whole wheat starter makes a great bread even better. Excellent! No nuts; no sugar --- just plain, delicious bread with whole grains. Thank you!

Wonderful fresh baked breads. I eat a couple baguettes a week. The American-style loaves are excellent too. Stop my early on a Saturday morning to pick up freshly baked cinnamon rolls. Unbelievably good weekend treat.

This is a gem of Detroit. I stop by nearly every weekend for coffee and one of thier breakfast sandwiches. The Jans Magic Bar is AWESOME! Thier pizza is really good when I can time visit to when they are making it.

My favorite place to pickup bread, get a hearty breakfast sandwich or nab one of their amazing foccacia. You also cant be upset with a company that truly executes a triple bottom line and gives back to the community

I really need to either stop coming here or just cool it for a while. Their cinnamon sugar along with the chocolate raised donuts are too addicting. Its almost become a ritual to stop by when Im in the neighborhood.

Tasty offerings, but over priced. The set up to stand in line and order is terribly arranged. You can see what is offered to know what to order. Staff was not knowledgeable or friendly. I wont be going back.

The pecan praline cookies and sticky buns that I had did not impress me. These were not as sweet and flavorful as I had hoped. However, the Pumpkin Whoopie pie was delicious and I would definitely get again.

I have only been there once during the winter. Waited for about 15 minutes and the guy accepting orders didnt seem to pay attention to anyone but three girls talking to him. I decided to leave the store.
