Ill start off by saying that the food is amazing. Absolutely amazing. I have never been disappointed. Being married to an Indian man and having been to India, the food is in close comparison. What is not in close comparison, not anywhere near close to be exact, is the hospitality, or lack there of I should say. Mind you, my family and I have been to this restaurant close to 50 or more times and every time the service is awful. We are half-heartedly greeted at the door, our waters are filled up once and once only unless we flag down a member of staff asking for more, even then it takes them 5 minutes of lollygagging around with one headphone in to remember or they wait for us to remind them again, our plates are never cleared from the table, in fact we have just recently figured out to find a table with a smaller table right next to us so we can just set our empty plates there because we know they wont even bother doing their job. One of the waiters, who now works in their food truck, even picked a fight with my husband and his friend because I am white and my husband is Indian. We stopped going there for a while because of that, but we returned after getting word the racial server was working the food truck. The new waitresses they have are in no way qualified to be working in an Indian restaurant. They dont know any Indian cuisine or any of the two main languages used by most Indian people. Upon requesting something special or even casual conversation they both run to the owner or manager or turn to me to explain. On the 20th, my birthday and the friends, who was threatened with my husband, actual wedding date, we decided after his marriage all to go to A Taste of India. We had called days in advance to make sure we had a large enough table and we even called the morning of to remind them. Upon arriving, no table was arranged and there was scarce food on the buffet. Neither I nor the bride and groom received a Happy Birthday or Congratulations on the wedding. Our plates were flooding the table and the ones surrounding us, we had to track down a waiter or waitress for refills, etc etc etc. It was just a really bad experience. In India, upon arriving into a home, you are treated with the utmost respect and welcoming. At A Taste of India, my family and I feel disrespected and uncared for, which is the exact opposite of what you should feel when dining out. After all, what we pay you for is food AND hospitality. All in all, food is great but the entire staff has ruined it for my family and I. After the experience on the 20th, we wont be back.

As one of the only 2 Indian restaurants in Battle Creek, this place was certainly a disappointment in Indian food. Being Indian, I set different standards for Indian food served in restaurants (lower usually), and this place did not really meet those standards. We went on a lunch buffet on a Saturday, and there was only 1 other party there besides us. Lets start with the food. There were 3 vegetarian items (a spinach curry, a mixed veg curry, and another potato-based curry) and 3 non-veg items (all chicken). My husband liked one of the 3 chicken items. I thought the vegetarian ones were a 3/5. The one thing I will say though is that all items tasted different, which is a good thing. Some sloppy restaurants just share gravies between "curry" dishes, which is NOT okay. There was ONE appetizer (pakodas) which were undercooked, you could taste the uncooked chickpea flour/besan in the fritters. There were two dessert items, one was good (kheer), the other (carrot halwa) not so much. Now, the servers/managers/owners were not exactly social/friendly/welcoming. Once we were seated, our plates werent cleared out, our water wasnt filled up, and no one ever came to talk to us, until the very end. The person managing the front reception of the restaurant was stepping out and he asked us to knock on the kitchen door to let someone know were ready to pay. Overall, I might give this place another try, to see if dishes taste different/better if we go not at lunch time. But so far, pretty disappointing. Servers/owners did not show interest in their customers.

I was really excited to try this place and I went with my aunt. Maybe we came in on a bad day but the food from the buffet was gross and picked over. The chicken was super dry and they only had a little of the things I even somewhat enjoyed. The worst was the service. We sat down and were ignored and when someone finally did come to the table he actually scoffed at us for waiting to tell him we wanted the buffet and didnt ask us if we wanted something other than water to drink. That was the only time anyone came to the table. When we got up to pay, the waiter looked at us and disappeared into the back for about 5 minutes before returning. At this time I looked around at the other customers who were all men and noticed they all had drinks. I am really not sure why they seemed to be so offended by our presence and my aunt who had been there several times never had a problem before. I can only guess that you will only get service if you come in with a man. Dont do ladies lunches at this restaurant.

The worst experience. I repeatedly asked to make the food spicy, gravy was like boiled heavy cream. This is the only Indian place in the area they are taking full advantage of it by serving nasty food. They are even not ready to listen if the food is bad. I have had excellent food cooked by Punjabi people but certainly they are a big disappointment. I understand bad service which is very common at lot of Indian restaurants but atlases deliver what you charge for the Good Food. It can happen once or twice a person can have bad experience but this is every time. Few months ago the other Indian restaurant opened even though the guy could not understand English properly he was humble and delivered excellent food and atleast heard about the food and improved. Indian cuisine is famous for a reason. Learn something and improve.

We have dined at A Taste of India a couple of times. The food isnt bad. The problem is it seems that we are always trying to go there on the weekend and its always seems to be Sundays. The google page says that they are open 12 -8 on Sundays in big letters. We called this evening and at 7:00 pm US time they arent answering. We have been more motivated to dine there because we purchased a groupon coupon. We received a notice that this coupon will expire yet on that same google page it states that the coupon does not expire. Well... I plan to call during the week and get over there but once I have cashed this coupon they wont have to worry about us darkening their door ever again. I hate it when a business cant live up to their business hours. We have been trying to get in there since Mothers day weekend.

I would give this 1.5 stars if I could... It was not the worst place I have ever eaten, but it was close. The food was nasty, although admittedly I got it off the buffet. The service was not very good, but that is kinda a battle creek thing. However the real thing that was the turn off for me was how dirty the kitchen was in the back. When you go the bathrooms there is a door to the kitchen... They left it open so I could look in there.. You could see bottles of cleaning chemicals stacked on the floor with filth surrounding them, The cooking surfaces looked fairly clean but the kitchen itself was disgusting and filled with flys. I did not get sick or anything but I would not recommend eating there.
