I just finished a wonderful plate of veal with mushrooms and a delicious marsala reduction, enjoyed that with a glass of Tempranillo. There is a wonderful jazz trio playing in the background and life is good. The Earle is by far my favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor. The menu is great and the wine cellar is unbelievable. I am fortunate enough to travel in Italy on a regular basis and The Earle is the only restaurant where I know I can find the rare Italian wines I crave. Tonight I chose the Tempranillo but last week I had a Vino Nobile di Montepulciano that was to die for. Lots of amazing choices. The fine wines and excellent food are especially good when enjoyed in the comfortable and friendly atmosphere. I have never been fond of overly-formal or superficial service. I love the quality of the offerings combined with a sincere and warm atmosphere. If youve never been, its time to check it out! Now I think Im going to dive into their homemade almond tart with raspberry coulis....mmmm.....!

I came here for a fancy date night. I thought the underground location was perfect and the ambiance that they attain with the lighting and the music is great. Unfortunately, I was not pleased with the waitstaff. The sommelier only asked my fiancee what her drink order was and ignored me three times before she finally got his attention and ordered for me. In addition to that, our waitress was really blunt. Its entirely possible that this was just an off night when it was crowded and busy, however, I dont think that should really interfere with how they treat customers. The food itself was good but it was nothing amazing. In combination with the poor waitstaff, I dont think it was a fantastic place to eat.

I came here with my boyfriend on a Monday night. The cork back wall, old speak easy vibe, and piano player is enough reason to come back. I had the lamb chops and my boyfriend had the salmon in a puff pastry. I love lamb but The Earle has made the best lamb chops I have ever had along with brussel sprouts. The salmon was to die for and we had the duck sausage on polenta for an appetizer and it also was phenomenal. The drinks were nothing to write home about but they arent a cocktail bar, the food was out of this world. I also came here for a second time and once again had the lamb chops in wine sauce with mashed potatoes and the perch with roasted potatoes.

We went there for my husbands birthday and the service was terrible! After being seated right away with a table of 10 we were very excited for good service, because it was not busy yet. It seemed odd that the appetizers were not brought out all at once, but I was willing to overlook it. However, after 1 hour and 25 minutes of waiting for our entrees and with no waitstaff presence we all became annoyed. We later expressed our feelings and there was no apology or offering in response. Needless to say this place has been going down hill from when we started going there. With so many other great restaurants in Ann Arbor, we will not be going back here ever!

The atmosphere at the Earle was great - the jazz band was wonderful and the cave-like basement was nice and different. The service was great. There was a mixed crowd there of different ages. You could tell some people had been coming here for a long time. There was a wine bar side and a strictly dining side, but you can actually eat in the wine bar if youd like. The wine and cocktail selection is great, and they even made us a specialty martini that wasnt on the menu. The calamari was the best that we have had in Ann Arbor so far. The Beef Bourguignon was tasty and a very filling meal. People were very friendly including the jazz band.

When I want to calm myself, have a nice drink, eat a hearty meal and enjoy my company, I go to The Earle. This evening my wife drank tea, I started with Bookers on ice and finished with an IPA on tap with my meal. We shared stuffed mushroom caps while waiting for entrees. She had white fish, I had white bean casserole with sausage and duck confit. We finished with a chocolate cake dessert. We sat for two hours eating, drinking, listening to the piano, and enjoying each other. Our bill with tip (20%) was less than $100.00. I dont think that is too expensive for great service, delicious food, stiff drinks and an enjoyable evening.

Im so torn on The Earle. Ive been here a handful of times and I would happily go back, but its never a place that I go out of my way to visit. The good parts: the live jazz music (usually piano and bass), the intimacy of the setting, the old-school dessert tray (fun to look at!), classic meals that you dont see elsewhere in Ann Arbor The not-as-good parts: the dankness of the setting, the price of the food, the heaviness of the food. So this place seems like a good choice for a college student whose parents are visiting, or someone who wants a more traditional and intimate dinner. Or, someone who loves eating to live jazz music!

The Earle is great for its atmosphere and ambiance. Its underground cellar-like seating, dim lights, stone walls, wood ledges, accompanied by its French-Mediterranean food fusion definitely gives it a European vibe, or at least makes you forget that youre in Michigan for a while. The wine list is extensive, offering some old and rare bottles. If you go in on the right night, you can catch some live jazz playing as well. If youre looking for something new, this is a fun and different dining experience.

Absolutely LOVE this place... went here for our anniversary and could not have been happier! The service was wonderful and food was perfect! The live music and intimate atmosphere is great for a romantic dinner or the perfect place to catch up with close friends. I cant go on enough about the food... it is a bit more expensive than your average restuarant but its SOOO worth it... you will not regret it!!! And their deserts are all made fresh daily. I will definately be returning!!!

Very good food and a very romantic environment. Great place to take a date. The entire resteraunt is under ground in a wine cellar like place which is very neat. Food is on the pricey side, around 30 dollars a plate, so be aware of that. The food menu is rather small, they only have a few choices of main dishes and a handful of appetizers, but the wine selection is ridiculously long. It is a 30 or so pages binder they give to you. This is what they are known for.

Ive been here twice for dinner, and thought the food was good but overpriced. When I want a meal in this price range I would ALWAYS choose Gratzi over the Earle. However, the Earle has a fantastic happy hour. Great discounts on wine and appetizers, as well as a great selection. This is how I will always experience the Earle from now on. (As a side note, I did have a very rude waitress here once, but I suppose that can happen once anywhere)

Well, I was surprised to find an outdated interior and lack of table cloth at such an upscale restaurant. Why upscale? Well, prices suggest that. With all the incredible variety of dishes and vines, driving you to expect an excellency, the quality of food was average. I would give it a second chance, but with hesitation. Didnt make the list of my favorite places for special occasion. Too bad, Ive heard many good things about this restaurant.
