Had a severe allergic reaction to something I shouldnt have had a reaction to while drinking here. Its hard to drink here with severe dietary restrictions in the first place as they seem to mostly have homebrewed beers and whiskeys. I decided to get something simple that I know Ive had before, a vodka/coke drink with nothing crazy in it that should have posed a threat to my life with my severe food allergies to peanuts, eggs, milk, shellfish, and others. Well, wouldnt you know - 30 minutes into drinking my drink my throat starts swelling up and I leave the drink to my friends with zero food allergies as I leave - projectile vomiting down the street as Im calling a ride to get to the hospital. Spent the night in the ER. I dont know if its because they were negligent and put something in my drink that they shouldnt have (not super likely in my opinion), or if instead they (more likely) carelessly "washed" the cups by dunking them for a few seconds in some soapy water after them containing one of many common drinks containing egg whites, milk, or nuts, then giving me the "washed" cup to drink out of after informing them about my food allergies. I find this to be the most likely answer. Anyway, dont drink at MASH if you have severe dietary restrictions. Use my experience with them as a warning. Youre not missing out on much anyway - in my opinion there are lots of far superior bars all over downtown Ann Arbor anyway.

My friends and I went here last night as part of a birthday bar crawl. This was the third place we went to after the host of Blue Tractor told us he didnt have room for our party at the time. First Impression: Pretty cool little scenery. Walking down into the basement and around the corners...it makes you feel like youre in a cave. As we were having our IDs checked we could see a small band playing. Live music is always cool. My largest complaint was the smell. I am hoping it was a one time mishap for someone who had a rough night. But it smelled like vomit throughout the entire bar. It was quite busy, no open tables, so we claimed a spot in the corner. One of the female bartenders was quite rude, but she seemed stressed from the customers. one of the females we were with was waiting to be served and the bartender asked us if "We were going to order, or what?" When we replied that we were and she brought us our order she was not willing to divvy up the tab and let us pay separately because she was "too busy to do multiple cards". Which whatever, we are smart enough that we can catch each others drinks.....elsewhere because after that we werent really willing to stay. Due to the sass we got from the bartender, the over sugary mixed drink, and the smell we rated this place on the lower end. However, i have only heard good things of this place before and we might be back for a second try eventually.

We came here as a group of six on a Wednesday night for a celebration. Ashleys was grossly busy, Red Hawk was closing depressingly early... and so we thought, Hey, lets go to Mash. SO glad we did! The music was so nice this time around. Some light live acoustic stuff that came through the speakers but was never painfully loud... and there was lots of space. While there were plenty of people there, it wasnt crowded to the point of annoyance. So it just ended up being very pleasant. We sat in a big booth and kicked back with a couple of pitchers. The drinks, Im afraid, are still a little uninspiring. The beer has too much of a bite for my taste.

Hip cool whiskey bar. Great drinks. The Deliverance (boilermaker) with the pickle chaser was shockingly good. One of the other drinks that we ordered was the GINGER MASH which has smoke infused ice cubes. The only food we ordered were the pickle chips. I swear they must have cooked an entire jar of pickles. The basket was full to the top and could have fed 6 people. We had quite a time knocking down 1/4 of the basket with just the 2 of us.

As much as they put on the airs that they are a fancy cocktail/mixed drinks bar this place is nothing special. Their select mixed drinks are average at best and when you give them a open ended drink request they default to the main mixed drinks. There are better places nearby but at the same time this place isnt horrible.

On weekends the live music and crowding can drown out conversation and make it less enjoyable, but when you get a good act and a not-as-busy night it can be a perfect experience. Great cocktail selection, a late-night happy hour, and a nice laid-back feel makes this my favorite weeknight bar.

Well, I tried to get in. I had loads of picture ID, and am in my fifties, but for non-US citizens they will only let you in with a passport. And taking a passport to a gig aint exactly rock and roll. Nor is asking for one. Went to the Blind Pig instead. Storming night.

Really cool speakeasy styled bar, I really like the whiskey selection and their house dark stout was fantastic. We went on a Friday and it was packed and loud and that really was the only downside to this visit, Im simply not a fan of fighting for my drinks.

Great atmosphere and great bartenders. A little on the expensive side, yet there are a plethora of awesome whiskies to try. If youre visiting from out of town I recommend trying a "pickle back"!

Local brewery with an awesome cozy vibe, live music, and eclectic crowd (ages 21 - 60.) Service was a bit slow, but the drinks were good. Overall pretty solid place. Would definitely recommend.

Heck yes. Good selection, good mixed drinks, good beers. The burnt ends (brisket) and the biscuits are awesome accompaniments. They have live music on certain days as well.

Judgemental management and some wait staff. After 1 round will request you to leave without cause or reason. Good place for kids to drink. Not for the over 40 crowd.

I had a pitcher of porter and a basket of sliders (not all by myself!). The basement has a nice vibe. The porter was hearty and the sliders were really good too!

Good cocktails and great music! The crowd is also decent. Good place to hang out with your friends on Friday or Sat nights! Recommend Ginger Mash or Mashattan.

Terrible experience. Went there for my 24th birthday. The bartender was incredibley rude and unnecessarily aggressive. Will not again.

Great place on weekends especially during the summer when the students are gone. Live music on weekends and a great selection.

Only a good place to go if you really like bourbon otherwise go to a place that has a better beer and or drink selection.

Bartender was rude. Yelled at my friend across the room because she didnt like her tip. Drinks are just OK.

Like music almost every day of the week and good drinks. A great place to go if its not too crowded.

Beer here is gross. Havent found anything good about this place. Maybe that it turns a 6 into an 8?

Good whisky selection, and a great venue. Love when they have live bands come in to play!
