Ordered after reviewing local Chinese restaurants near Crowne Plaza Newton, MA. My first choice was to try Ginger Root but they are out of business. Ordered General Tsos Chicken and Dumplings (pan fried) as I am used to then being called Pot Stickers. Delivery was about 30minutes to the hotel which I ordered at 9pm. The General Tsos Chicken is of good quality, lightly breaded - not overly breaded where you wonder if you got any chicken in the piece at all. FYI they do charge for rice with the General Tsos, I laughed but it is what it is. I didnt care for the dumplings, Ive grown accustomed to my local Chinese restaurant at home. For the total cost of 27 dollars I had the experience of Bostons Chinese. It seems high to me for local Chinese, but dont regret the trial. Provided plastic ware / styrofoam plates, soy sauce a big container of sweet and sour ( not your typical packets, I actually prefer the packets) I only got a quarter a way through it and dont have a fridge so Im finding myself trying to give it away to staff here.

Tried this place for the first time earlier this week while we were still recovering from the blizzard. The decor was nothing special but most of the food was excellent. The Lo Mein was the best Ive had in a long time, thin noodles, lots of flavor, and the scallion pancakes were the best Ive ever had. We also had fried rice and chicken fingers. The chicken fingers were good but nothing special. The fried rice was, unfortunately, inedible. It had little to no flavor and the texture was strange. It was very wet, like it hadnt been cooked long enough. The awesomeness of the lo mein and scallion pancakes are enough to cancel out the terrible rice.

Shing Yee in West Newton is the kind of Chinese food that you crave when you are looking for some delicious general gaos, amazing scallion pancakes, or tender boneless spare ribs. The restaurant has a mid size dining room, with very friendly servers and a family feel to it. They get to know their customers, and having grown up eating Shing Yee I can say it sets the standard for other Chinese food. They are fairly priced, and offer good size portions.

While not the greatest Chinese food on the face of the Earth, its pretty darn good. Always consistent, and the people who work there do a great job. Very fast from the time you place your order until its ready to go. With so many Chinese restaurants in Newton Area, you have to be pretty good in order to survive, and this place has been around for quite some time. Try the scallion pancakes. Egg drop soup is also tasty.

the food here is very good. Ive been here and ordered out many times and the food has always been tasty. From appetizers to specialties everything was satisfying (with exception of maybe the crisp duck). Service was always pleasant and prompt. Worth a try.

Service was not the greatest. So called spicy food item was bland. What kind of "Chinese" restaurant serves such bland food?? And this was after I asked the server while offering if the item was truly spicy!

this restaurant was good when it first opened but has gone waaay down hill. the service is rude and unfriendly and the food tastes burnt or excessively greasy most of the time.

Favorite among locals. Good value for the price. Good could be a little higher quality, but its very acceptable. Fast turn around on takeout orders.
