This is a hard review to write. Sichuan Gourmet House specializes in authentic Szechuan cuisine. And, those traditional dishes are fantastic. However, their service leaves a to be desired. Weve ordered takeout once and deliver twice. One of the deliveries was 30 minutes later than expected (though they did call us). For the other delivery order, they asked us to come in instead. Weve ordered both by phone and online, and 2 of 3 times they got the order wrong. Garlic cucumbers, vegetable steamed dumplings, hot and sour soup, dry stir fried chicken (my very favorite szechuan dish!), potato slices with hot green peppers, fried whole peppers, sauteed green beans, and yu shiang eggplant were all great and stack up extremely well against Szechuan Gourmet in Framingham (my other favorite Boston Chinese restaurant). General Gaos chicken, chicken fried rice, veggie lo mein, and sesame chicken were only OK - typical cheap takeout style. As others have noted, the owners are incredibly friendly and I hope these are just growing pains. Therefore Im going to give them 4 stars provisionally for the excellent food and will review in a few more months.

OK, so the service is not always quick. However, the food is fantastic! It is indeed the real thing. As I was told, this restaurant opened to cater to the growing Asian population in the greater Newton community. The menu reflects a more Chinese sensibility than your average Chinese restaurant. I havent had anything that wasnt delicious and spicy and interesting. I tried jellyfish and cucumber salad for the first time at this restaurant, and it was phenomenal. The softshell crab is delectable. The Szechuan whole fish in a bowl was poetic! There are not many restaurants like this anywhere in America outside of major Chinese communities. This is as good as anything you will find in any Chinatown in this country. So, go hungry and put yourself in a patient frame of mind. Any wait will be worth it. Oh, and by the way, the dragons Eye dumplings are amazing. They are hot soup dumplings so approach carefully.

Six of us ordered lobster, fried potato strings, lamb skewers, fish fillet in chilli sauce, yu xiang shredded pork and a veggie dish. Overall experience is very positive. I loved all the dishes that we ordered, particularly the fish. This was the first time I was here and I would definitely come back to taste more of their offerings.

Would not recommend this restaurant. Some of the saltiest food one can find in the area. Every dish comes with the food floating in puddles of soy sauce and other oily sauces. Had to order an extra bowl of rice because the food was so salty. The chicken in particular clearly wasnt fresh and had a bitter taste. Not a good experience.

I got take out. So the terrible service other folks have mentioned was not an issue for me. The issue was the food. The vegetables neither looked nor tasted fresh. The soup brought to mind that song from the Sugar Hill Gang, Rappers Delight. ...Have you ever gone over to a friends house to eat and the food just aint no good...

This is definitely one of the two best Chinese restaurants around the Newton area. The menu is decently well organized and the food is tasty. In case you wanted to know, when I went, only two people there werent chinese. And they were there with a group of chinese people. Thats how you know a Chinese restaurant is very Chinese.

Food was okay. Some dishes were really good while others were meh. Dishes were the smallest Ive seen in the area. Service was mediocre. On mothers day we had a really early reservation for 11 people. They said to us before we even ordered that since were their first reservation we need to hurry.

Horrible service! The food was below average among local Chinese restaurants. What a waste of two hours. We walked out unhappy when there were plenty of other choices in this area.

Incredible service! The staff was friendly and sat us right away. Our food and tea came quickly and was nice and hot and fresh. I will definitely be coming here again soon!

Most of their dishes are great. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants around. They offer pretty good Peking Duck, which is rarely seen in other Chinese restaurants.

Just Wonderful - We have found our new place to eat, Please note this is traditional Sichuan, that includes the service. Raise your hand, flag down the server!!

It does not have authentic Sichuan food. It is more of Zhejian food, which is not spicy or particularly flavorful.
