It was the week before my wifes birthday so I invited 6 friends to have dinner and suggested Indian take out. We had the following dishes: . Samosas . garlic naan . aloo chhole . Bombay Bhaji . chicken tikka masala . chicken labada . shrimp vindaloo . lamb jalfrozie . Mr India Biryani Supplemental spices were provided as well as white rice. Needless to say we way over ordered (they all got to take lots home). However, literally everyone raved about the dinner. I labeled all the dishes with explanations from the menu and laid them out as a buffet. While Naan, Aloo Chhole and Tikka Masala are normal favorites, a couple of the folks really liked the Bombay Bhaji (my favorite) and the shrimp vindaloo. Mr India offers 4 levels of "spice" ranging from mild to uncomfortably hot (for a westerner). For a different experience, and a quick to clean up meal, I strongly recommend Mr. India. I have subsequently been back for the daily luncheon buffet where 8 different dishes are offered, plus salad, soup, and dessert. Yam and Ram are delightful people and will willingly help you with explanations or suggestions. I plan to go back often.

If you are looking for an extensive menu of very flavorful Indian and/or Nepali food, you have hit the jackpot. Every dish I tried was served hot, was very flavorful, colorful, and spiced (heat-wise) per-request. You can order a la carte, or you can order a "Bhansa"-- a full Nepali meal that comes on one metal tray. It comes with rice and lentils, two vegetarian dishes, pickled mango, and sweet rice pudding. It is such a joy to have so many flavors in front of me, to mix and match with each bite, according to my whim. They are very generous size of naan, hot and fresh, that comes with each meal. Their masala tea (with milk and sugar) is a sweet, creamy treat, and a nice way to start or end a meal. The service is spot-on. Waiting for you on the table are papadam and three sauces, so you can nibble as you peruse the menu. The manager, Sam, is very attentive, soft-spoken, and very kind. Somehow, I feel at home at this restaurant, and leave with a warmed and satisfied belly!

Mr. India offers the best Indian cuisine available in the Newburyport area. My girlfriend and I frequently start our date nights with a meal at Mr. India and have never been let down. The quality of the food is always excellent and the service is fantastic. Our favorite dishes are chicken tikka masala and baingan bhartha. They are always seasoned just right and provide rich flavor that makes us want to scrap the bowls clean! They offered a wide range of naan that pairs well with any of their main dishes and weve sampled just about all of them. Appetizers and soups are also great and offer a nice taste of what you can expect from the main course. We frequently get the Samosas. The two pieces you get are quite large and can be easily split between four people. If you find yourself in the Newburyport area and are craving some Indian cuisine or something different then head over to Mr. India for a great meal!

I did take out on Christmas eve day. The bill was $21.35. When I checked my bank statement, I noticed that I was charged $29.35. I took the paperwork over to show Sam. He pointed out that the bill says $21.35 and so that is what was charged. I pointed out that the bank gave him $29.35 from my credit card. Rather than returning the money he told me to talk to the bank. I am now disputing the bill, which is a bit of a hassle. As a repeat customer (I bring my extended family there as well) who previously wrote an excellent review I was surprised that this is how I would be treated. When I ran into Ram a few days later and told him that I would no longer be coming back, he was very apologetic and wanted to make it right. Unfortunately, that was after I had already opened the dispute with the bank. Watch your receipt and be sure to check it against your bank statement...

Great food and great service. Mr. India is definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Newburyport. The food is always fresh, flavorful and well-spiced, and never too salty, which is a complaint I have about many other Indian restaurants. I usually order from the vegetarian options and loved everything Ive had. Ive also tried several lamb dishes and was pleased with those as well. Portion sizes are just right (often on the large size), and prices are reasonable. Its also a nice and quiet atmosphere, so if you feel like going somewhere where you dont have to shout across the table to have a conversation, Mr. India is perfect. Good option for takeout as well.

We just moved to Newburyport, I travel a lot and have had Indian food here in the US, Germany and London. My husband and I love the food at Mr. India. We like the atmosphere in the restaurant and the service is very personal. We have eaten in with a big group and all of our friends in the group raved about the food, especially compared to other Indian restaurants that they had eaten at before. We also like to get takeout on Friday nights, this is a convenient location with easy parking and I would recommend it to anyone.

We discovered this gem a few weeks ago. The food is absolutely wonderful...so good, in fact, weve already been back three more times! Extensive menu with traditional Indian dishes plus Himalayan & Nepalese fare. Everything weve tried has been delicious. Cooked perfectly. Full of flavor. The best Indian food weve ever had! I should also add, the people who work at Mr. India take great pride in their restaurant. Everyone working there, including the chef, has come over to make sure were loving our meal. I love this place!

I have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions, the most recent being shortly prior to closing, having dined in and take-out quite frequently I have to say everything is top notch every time. It is the best Indian that I have found in the area, and I find their staff very friendly and accommodating, whether trying Indian for the first time or seasoned traveler, it is well worth the visit. Lots of food for little cost is also an added plus! (vegetable samosas are to die for!)

My wife and I along with another couple dine at Mr. Indias almost once a month. We have never been disappointed with any of the variety of dishes we share. The generous glass of wine is also a treat that adds to the enjoyment of an evening meal shared with close friends. Yam (Sam) has been our waiter most often and we cannot say enough about his hospitality and Indian charm. Because of our dining experiences at Mr. India, I have been quick to recommend this restaurant to all.

At first the buffet seemed underwhelming, but dont judge a book by its cover. In addition to being delicious it came with a very generous serving of Naan and chicken tandoori (I think) that was just excellent. You get the convenience of a buffet with the freshness of to-order food. Talk about having your cake and eating it. I was worried that this might come at an extra cost, but nope! The bill was very reasonable. I am 100% coming back

We have eaten, when possible, Indian food all around the world, including India. Mr India was an AMAZING surprise!! With one exception in Hong Kong, the best Indian food we have ever had. We chose both entrees from Himalayan specialties. The Mutton Palungo was our favorite entree and the Kathmandu Chicken Chilli was a close second. The Raita, Naan and Chicken Soup were equally mouth watering. We can hardly wait until we return.
