The Model Cafe is by far my favorite bar in Allston, if not all of Boston. The drink selection doesnt knock it out of the park, but it is pretty good and always has more than a couple of tasty beers on tap. The mixed drinks are strong, and everything is reasonably priced. The decor is great, and more importantly, the staff is awesome and the people who drop in are fantastic. Some friends and I like to come in on the slower weekdays and play some card or board games over a few pints. While waiting for friends to show up, the bartender will chat with you and tell you the local lore and other bar flies will strike up conversation. When it gets a little later and we are done playing games and are just chatting and drinking, a DJ might come in and throw down some old school punk or metal. The place is a bit rowdier and more crowded on the weekends with a fun alternativish crowd. It is good solid people watching if nothing else, and after a few drinks most people tend to get friendly and chatty. If you are tired of generic Boston sports bars or high end bars where you feel out of place in anything less than business casual, Model Cafe is the place for you.

This place is interesting -- the bartender is a native Allstonite, as are most of the older crowd who comes earlier. You know, stereotypical Boston types with the accents and the whole nine yards. The place seems to be quickly hipsterfying, however, and late nights frequently seem like a big dance party for the fixie bike crowd.

The model is the dive bar to end all dive bars. A typical friday and saturday night consists of cheap PBR and hanging out with the local hipsters (skinny jeans are almost required). Enjoy the pinball machine and big buck hunter and the none functional jukebox. Awesome music from 60s mod to Ke$ha. Ask for the summer snatch.

Went on 4th of july, the bouncer was hilarious and the bartender was prompt even though it was packed. Reasonably priced drinks, although limited tap, but a good selection of hard liquor. Id give them 5 stars but i cant scrub this stamp off.

I showed up to Model for the first time last night to DJ for a friends birthday and management was extremely accommodating (great guys.) Drinks are reasonably priced... its what youd expect from a dive bar. Wish I came here sooner.

A great place to grab a drink with friends. The crowd is young at heart and although they might look a little rough around the edges, very friendly bunch. I highly recommend the Model Cafe for a casual beer.

this is a classic dive/hipster bar, if you are looking for someone to hook up with that is dirty, i.e. needs a shower, and/or has no future, this is the place to go.
