As a lover of Julia Child, I could not pass up the chance to eat at a French restaurant during Bostons restaurant week, Dine Out Boston. Online, La Voile seemed like it would be a good choice. So how did it actually do? First Course: Amuse Bouche I ordered the Terrine de Foie Gras while my boyfriend decided to go off the price fix menu and ordered the escargots. Both of these dishes were new to me and I approached each with an open mind. The Foie Gras was smooth, soft, and delicious, spreading easily across the fresh and warm French bread. The peach marmalade that came with the dish complemented the unique flavor of the Foie Gras perfectly. As for the snails, they tasted of garlic and butter. As my boyfriend declared "perfection!" Second Course: Although unoriginal, I opted for the beef bourguignon, which seems to have vanished from their online menu. This plate was entirely one single serving of gastronomic bliss. The meat was soft and tender, the veggies flavorful. And those mashed potatoes! So light and soft. My boyfriends veal dish was also a stew dish, though his came with a different sauce and rice. Both were amazing and absolutely worth the trip alone. Third Course: Dessert This was probably the only downer of the night. I went for the berry tart and it was just ok. The fruit was nice but it wasnt anything that I would rave about to my friends. It just needed something more to it. That aside, this place is worth visiting, though the prices are on the more expensive side. If you have the cash or are feeling like a splurging on yourself, then do come here. Otherwise, wait for another restaurant deal like Dine Out Boston. You get the same quality of food but at a more reasonable price.

I want to give 0 star. If you are non-Caucasian and not speaking French, dont go this restaurant. They discriminate! Its terrible experience that Ive never had in US. This restaurant discriminates customers. We had a reservation at 9:00pm and we arrived 10 min earlier. The front desk told us that the table will be ready on time @ 9. However, after we waited till 9:10. I asked them if the table ready, they said that the table was not ready, we had to wait another 10min without any explainations. Then we saw the other customers (white people speak French) came after us got the table. One group (2 people, and Ive heard that their reservation was at 9:15) got in later than us and got the seat. Another group (3 people) got in later than us but still got the table before us. When I went to ask again, the guy with glass said that the guests hadnt left the table that we reserved. When I tried to ask him when coud be ready and we just wanted to know how long its going to take, he said he had no idea with the face that Ive never wanna see again. I reserved at 9:00pm and I didnt reserve a certain table! Then we just left the restaurant at 9:30pm since no one cares we were waiting.

We went to La Voile Saturday night w/ 2 other couples (6 people in our party), & being "foodies" we were really looking forward to this experience. In fact, we drove in traffic an hour in order to get there. The decor & authentic French wait staff were truly out of a movie. The salads & the escargot were excellent. However, 3 of us ordered the "RIBEYE" steak and we were deeply disappointed. First, this was not a Ribeye. This steak was sooo tough it was sirloin at best! I had a very difficult time trying to cut it with a steak knife. There was no tenderloin, which always comes part of a RibEye & I really felt like they were trying to pawn off some other cut of meat. Our waiter NEVER came back after serving the meal so we didnt complain because we didnt want to make a scene - 3 of us ordered this meal. It was terrible. Awful. I cant express enough how deeply disappointed we were.

Made reservations for my Mothers birthday. Immediately walking in I noticed the smell of dirty dish water. The hostess was not friendly and proceeded to sit us down in a cramped bench seat arrangement. Bench seat was dirty and my mother had to clean it. Hostess didnt care, nor didnt smile. Food: Ordered Mussels, scallop risotto and streak frites - spent over $200 with wine. Risotto was under cooked and steak was of poor quality. I could have made both at home with more elegance and charm. Dish plating was extremely sloppy. Ambience: Very unclean and loud atmosphere. The smell of dirty dishwater from the bar kept wafting to our table. I asked our waiter why it smelled so bad and he laughed that it was the way the airflow in the restaurant and the bars dishwasher was making the smell. Will not go here ever again and I recommend you do the same.

By Far the most genuine French Brasserie in Boston (together with their Brookline location). The best Foie Gras I have had in any US Restaurant; whether “Le Poêlée or La Terrine”. The dishes are delicious and generous. The wine list is very extensive. Going there since 2006 and I never had a bad experience! They also have a catering service which I have used for various events, private dinners or lunches at various locations and cocktail parties. I have also used their private room for special events and will continue to do so. Jerome Bergere is the ‘Conductor’ (musical term) and his Team is composed of amazing professionals who make sure the ambiance remains naturally French; many are French speaking. The service is amazing! You can also eat at the quaint Bar and get the best cocktails from Rory Caviness!

I wanted to love La Voile, and it is indeed quite good. It is classic french bistro food, with nary a deviation from the original recipe. It is also quite expensive compared to its neighbors and other french bistros in the city. 20 years ago, a restaurant like this would have been a welcome oasis in Boston. But, were a food town now. Weve put our own twist on the bistro, and are putting out modern inventive food in the process while respecting the classics. Places like Hammersleys and Eastern Standard are just so much more interesting and fun. And its a shame, because everything at la voile is done very competently, and I really have no specific complaints. Its just boring, and at these prices, boring isnt what Im looking for.

I almost dont want to review this place so it stays my little secret.. but they deserve the business because theyre a fantastic establishment. La Voile feels like youve been transplanted to Paris. The chairs, tables, bar, waitstaff, bartender and chefs are all from France and it makes it even more quaint. We went with my in laws who raved that it was better than some of the places they ate at in Paris! The food is outstanding and the service as well. Well worth the money. The rotating prix fixe menus are a great value. They also have the best macaroons I have had in Boston. I am seriously considering asking if I can just buy some of them to go. Get a table for your next celebration dinner!

Way overpriced food and drinks. Nice waiter simply gave attention to my wife and could care less what I wanted. The steak was overcooked and tough, the apps were weak and tasteless. Very disappointing given the hype of the place. For a mediocre dinner for two - I didnt even get an alcoholic drink, the bill was over $150. Clearly a rip off. You dont always get what you pay for. This place should be taken off Newbury. I have had much better dinners for much less. And PS, they dont have a full bar - the guy explained how expensive the liquor license is. Shocking given their prices.
