Having served in various restaurants over the years, my wife & I were disappointed with this visit. 1. Waitress at bar inattentive. 2. Food was ok. 3. House margaritas sour beyond. It has been my experience that lunch is never dinner. More attention to detail in food prep and to needs of clientele during dinner seems to be the norm. Not sure why? Sauce on burrito seems canned, not authentic at all. Eat authentic & youll understand. Portions were good, quality medium, service just ok. Sorry El Jefe...you have the market on KI but fail to hold yourselves to higher standards. Lets pick it up & well stay on this side of the big blue.

I normally do not write any kind of reviews about restaurants but I have to say my experience at El Jefe this afternoon was terrible. The chips were cold, the waitress I had never introduced her self and was horrible. The chicken taquitos I ordered were so incredibly burnt inside and out they were inedible. When brought to the waitresses attention she scolded me saying they were meant to be like that. She failed to offer to remake the food or take them off the check. Needless to say I will not return to this restaurant.

The service was good and the atmosphere is nice enough (which is why they get 2 stars not one), but the food wasnt good at all. Sauces were watery and overly sweet, the guacamole was obviously premade and plastic wrapped. It was the worst guacamole Ive had from any Mexican restaurant. The margaritas were pretty gross, which for a place that includes tequila bar in their name is very disappointing. If you like good (or even decent) Mexican food dont stop here.

We just discovered this place and it was amazing! I ordered the carnita burrito without rice and it was still huge! Good quality, moist, with larger chunks of meat, which I like. Had to take 1/2 home. We sat at the bar and our bartender (I didnt get her name) was personable and welcoming. I loved the atmosphere & decor was adorable. The food came out quick. A perfect pit stop driving back from the beach before crossing the bridge to suburbia!

Fajitas are tasty, garish plate had a little of everything, TY. They have Cerviche! Wow!!! My meal was Chandon Del Mar (Shrimp & Scallops); the taste was bold & flavorful. I will get again. Service was ok. Server was nice, busboy was nice. What I noticed most about El Jefes is the very laid back & casual feel. I saw many people talking w/tables (new friends). Love it!!!

Staff was slow but very friendly. The food was not appetizing at all. Ordered the super tacos with "seasoned ground beef" which really was just hot dog chili from a can. Couldnt even finish one out of the three tacos that I got. Very disappointed considering this place has some good reviews.

Fresh yummy Mexican food! Nice big brightly colored dinning room and separate bar area. Friendly and fast wait staff. The food was freshly prepared and served up hot! Fresh house made guacamole and chips. The chimichanga was the best Ive had since being in Arizona.
