Not bad, but some odd food and flavorings. The place is very small inside. The menu is decent. I got the chicken mole enchilada because I have loved mole dishes elsewhere. It was ok, but nothing special or different than what I would cook at home. The salsa was wonderful. My husband got some pork dish which was ok, but not something he or I would get a second time. The chile relleno was not stuffed, rather a small, very small, pepper split open, topped with a massive amount of cheese to make up for how small the pepper was, and a small bit of sauce. Way too much cheese and barely could tell the pepper was there. My daughter got a small childrens quesadilla, cant go wrong there. But we ordered her a simple beef taco with only cheese on it. The beef was the oddest thing about our meal. It tasted like sloppy joe mixture. It was very odd flavor on a taco shell and topped with cheese. It wasnt an awful meal. We however, would not choose to go back. That bathrooms are located right in the hallway the servers are busing and getting drinks and such. On the way to the kitchen. It is such a busy hallway and I had to walk around a stack of extra chairs with a bin full of dirty dishes to get to the ladies room. It was weird. The ladies room is very small and cramped. When we got our bill they charged us extra because we ordered juice instead of soda with the kids meal, full price for a small little juice $2.50?! And then we also were charged an extra $2 for a refill on chips? Ive never been to a place that charges you to refill chips. Very very odd. We also were charged $2.50 for a tiny tiny dish of guacamole because my 3 year old wanted something to dip her quesadilla in. The container was so small I have NO idea why we were even charged for it! To me, this is just nickel and diming your guests. To give others who read these an idea - at other Mexican restaurants we leave tax and tip for $45 or less. Our bill tonight was $65! And we didnt get anything abnormal than what we would have ordered elsewhere. Again, we will not be back.

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant. Service is always great; food is just super flavorful. The complimentary salsa and chips are heavenly. Order anything from Gilbertos specials and you can not go wrong. Our personal favorites: El Plato Placero (if youre in the mood for steak); Asado de Puerco (if youre in the mood for pork), Camarones a La Diabla (if youre in the mood for Seafood with a slight kick) or the Camarones al Ajillo (for a classic garlic shrimp)--all super yummy!! Order with your favorite variation of margharita. If youre in the mood for soup, order their Mexican Seafood Chowder--its super creamy and tasty. For dessert, Tres Leches is a must! For something less rich, try their Xangos. End your meal with Nutty Mexican coffee and you will leave super happy!

Worst service ever. My wife and I went there to eat dinner. The waiter took our order with an attitude. Some other waiters brought our food to the table. The waiter never came back to the table he was to busy flirting with the table of women he was waiting on. We waited 20 minutes after we got done with our food for a check that never came. We had to go find another waiter to get our check. The check was $24 something. I still left a tip of $3.50 even though that was the worst experience we ever had at a restaurant. After I paid our check I told the guy in the front what happened he acting like it was nothing. Now that makes me think there could had been done racism in play there. WE WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN. WE WILL ALWAYS TELL FRIENDS TO NOT TO.

The good: The atmosphere was nice, bar was busy and the drinks are reasonable. 3-4 bucks for a beer. 6ish for margaritas which is nice compared to some places. The unfortunate: The food was OK - not good enough considering the number of other Mexican places within 5-10 miles (Columbia/Ellicott City both have many good places). The service was awful. We watched our waitress walk by us several times while we sat with empty glasses, closed menus, and an empty tray of chips... She also coughed into her hand, and reached for a customers plate - awesome! She seemed frustrated that I asked for a refill. With OK food, and sub-par service, I think Ill go elsewhere for good Mexican food.

I met a friend for lunch there and it seems I was not the only one. There were a few other ladies, business people and a construction worker (he talked loud on his phone). They have to sit down places and a closed private room in the back. I had choose to sit on the bar site. One server brought over salsa and chips prompt. The lady got annoyed with me while I was waiting to order. My friend has not arrived yet It felt to me like they have a eat and go mentality mentality. The menus seems authentic California style Mexican but I missed Taco salad. So for a quick lunch it is OK but otherwise not for me.

We have never had a bad meal at El Azteca - EVER! And we usually go on a weekly basis. There are new specials every time we visit and I love to try new dishes - again - never a disappointment! The Cadillac Margarita is the BEST!!!!! Love the Mexican Seafood Chowder and the Chulola wings are awesome! Cozy environment - staff is very friendly. Some of the staff is not constantly checking on you...but thats okay with us...personally, I cant stand to be interrupted mid-bite or mid-conversation!!! Authentic, REAL food prepared fresh - there is not a lot of that in this area. El Azteca is the best.

This once was my favorite MexicAn restaurant. However, the last time my husband and I went we were extremely disappointed. I almost always get the steak tacos al carbon and did so on this visit. Strangely they tasted very, very salty! Never had before. That night I couldnt get to sleep for the life of me. They means they used a ton of MSG! Aside from making me thirsty, MSG keeps me awake all night. Will not risk going again unless they can promise me no MSG! I dont like listening to my heart pound all night long.

Fui a comer este dia, y honestamente tuvimos un muy mal servicio, la mesera no nos atendió bien y vimos que a las personas americanas y los atendieron bien. La comida es buena pero con ese trato no se disfruta.

This is our favorite Mexican food in the state, and weve been known to drive into the area just for a meal here. Start with either Queso dip, but try to save room for your entree. My favorite is the Chile Verde, but the Burros Cortes come in a close second. Ive never had anything here that wasnt delicious, fresh, and well prepared. The fact that everyone working here speaks Spanish as a first language is a bonus!
