I come from the South (not SW) and the Mexican is pretty consistent from joint to joint with only minor differences. For instance in my small hometown there were at least 4 Mexican places (not counting TacoHell) that I was pretty confident with every visit I would get a meal I enjoyed. Coming up to DC/Balt metro area I could not find a place, though advertised themselves as Mexican, that served up the meal as I expected. And this area has a real problem with saying they have queso, when what they serve is nacho cheese. Enter my first time at El Salto, and it was like coming home. Queso Blanco the way I love it. And everything Ive had of the menu has been good. I lean towards chicken/pollo as my go-to meat. So I get the Special La Casa w chicken (and sometimes sautéed spinach) and it is the Bomb! Everyone Ive brought there has enjoyed their meal. Highly recommend it. If I had to list a con, the salsa is a bit mild. But when everything else is delicious, who really cares if salsa is mild? Besides if I had asked for something spicier, I am positive they would have brought me some. Give them a try ☆

Great food, very reasonably priced, great customer service- some have all been there for 15 years and they are always friendly, the food comes out very fast and steaming hot. you MUST try the cheese dip its the best! my dad loves the shrimp cocktail, the steak a la pequenia (or something like that) is really good, and its not on the menu but its sooo good and they will make it for you if you order it i get it every time: especial la casa, which consists of 2 flour tortillas filled with tender braised beef tips and a bit of cooked onions and peppers, all wrapped up and smothered in that amazing white queso. Its delicious. The fajitas are also a great pick they come out sizzling with all the fixins. The food is not spicy. It is neutrally seasoned to please anyones pallet. Most love and some hate it but all i can say is definitely try it! And by the way, I have a degree in culinary arts and I also have several years of hard earned experience.

I have lived in El Paso, TX and San Diego, CA. I also grew up on my Grandmas cooking. Needless to say, I am well-versed in Mexican cuisine. The food here is good, though relatively unexciting. I only tried the carne asada burrito and compared to San Diego, this is completely different. For one, the burrito costs double what I am used to paying. The lack of guacamole is somewhat strange. The meat was cut too finely and made it difficult to eat with a fork. And before anyone objects with "that isnt authentic", let me remind you that the quality of the food and taste do not rely on authenticity. The addition of cheese is welcomed, and they did a good job at keeping the quantity to a minimum. The beans and rice were nothing special. Overall, it was a basic meal for $15. I would rate it higher if the portions were larger or the price was lower. BOTTOM LINE: an average Mexican meal at an above-average price.

El Shittos was HORRIFICALLY HORRIBLE!!!! I will NEVER EVER eat there again! Thank all unholy it was my first and definitely my last time everrrrrr going to this shytehole!!! I seriously wish I could give it a million negative stars! The fajita was not sizzling and Im pretty sure it was just scraped leftovers from someone elses plate. The "steak" (bs~more like sewer rat) was beef jerky, the "chicken" (3 day old dead crow) was as mushy as earwax and the "shrimp" (Ive got nothing but it wasnt frucking shrimp) was saltier than an exes tears. The salsa tasted like tomato paste rotting in the sun and the cheese dip was off brand velvetta scraped from a homeless guys foot. HORRIBLE SERVICE doesnt even begin to describe how sucky our lame a$$ waitress was. Omg awful awful awwwwwwful!!!!!!!

To be completely honest, this place was almost awful and certainly not authentic. The complimentry salsa was straight up tomato puree - no spices, no herbs, no chunks. My chimichanga was not fried and it was hardly warm. My friend was not happy about her meal either; it was cold and her quesadilla was filled with american cheese!!! The most bland tasting mexican Ive ever had - how can so many people claim it to be authentic and "the best!" is what Id like to know. To top it off, we were there during a work lunch hour and our waitress couldnt have taken more of her sweet time to bring us our check. I then had to walk up to her and hand our credit card and check over. Will never return. Try Taco Bell...its tastier and cheaper...

This place is disgusting. When you are seated at one of their sticky table and chairs, someone who barely speaks English brings you a basket of stale tortilla chips with "salsa" I quote salsa because it was just tomato paste and ketchup. It every other restaurant, this is complimentary...you no pay. I ordered 2 shots of tequila, which was warm...asked for lemons, got limes. Said they had no lemons, yet lemons were hanging over my glass of water. Scrolled through their menu, everything seemed overpriced and not at all edible. The staff was rude, the manager had a bad attitude...they tried to charge me $4.00 for the complimentary chips that I didnt ask for....rude people, dirty bathrooms, crappy place. Do not recommend.

Let me start off by saying I enjoy their food very much but today I was very disappointed. I started off by trying to place an order only to be told "I dont understand what your saying." After a few more attempts I gave up by just deciding to place the order in person. Aside from almost giving me beef after I stated chicken twice, I thought we were on the same page. Didnt think I had to check my food but boy was I wrong. Ordered a simple taco salad with Fiesta chicken, peppers, rice etc. What I got was a taco salad with shredded chicken(which completely made the taco shell soggy) no rice or peppers. Very frustrated but I do enjoy their food aside from this instance. Hopefully its just an anomaly

We go here at least once a month and love it! My son and I have tried many things, but the fajita quesadilla is our fave! Service is always super friendly and quick. They give you a COMPLEMENTARY basket of fresh, warm tortilla chips with TRADITIONAL (smooth) salsa - AKA salsa roja (red sauce) or salsa de mesa (table sauce) - not the chunky stuff Americans are used to, and very tasty. The food comes quickly and full of grilled goodness. The fajita quesadilla is packed with grilled peppers, onions, steak, chicken, and shrimp - like fajitas but already stuffed - yummy! Weve never had a problem with a substitution or addition. The staff has always been very kind to us and we love coming here!

Really upset. Gave this place a 5 star just 3 days ago. Absolutely loved the food. Ate there last night. Paid with my credit card. I dont recall getting my card back and i left without it. My account got flagged and 17 minutes after i paid with my card for my meal, my card was being used for groceries and other expenses. Im appalled. Im not even sure if my card was given back to me. I feel hugely taken advantage of. We ate here twice. We bought 3 plates plus extras and tipped. This is how they treat a paying customer? Dont use your card here if you insist on going for the food. Im only glad it was my credit card and not a debit card or I may never have gotten those charges cleared.
