The food is good - - if they have it! Last year my wife and I moved back in to our condo only a few blocks from Taco Trio in Sout Portland. We were delighted to find a mexican restaurant with authentic mole sauce and a great rendition of southern California fish tacos. We ate lunch there at least 3 times a week while reestablishing our home and getting our own business up and running. We told everyone about our new find! Toward the end of summer last year we had put in a monster day, heading home around 8PM we stopped for take out dinners. They were out of mole. I was upset but understanding. We coped, selected alternate meals and continued with our patronage. You see, for 15 years I ran a lot of restaurants, many Bonanza steak houses as well as independent establishments ranging from multi dining room full service (including liquor) places to breakfast and lunch cafes. It is an adictive business that I enjoyed very much in spite of it being very demanding. I understand. A few weeks later we were coming back from business in Portsmouth and decided to hold off our hunger until we got to Taco Trio to get a mole and a fish each for lunch. They were out of both. We complained but settled for other choices. While they were both good - we did not get what we wanted. Last week my wife and I again planned our day around picking up lunch at Taco Trio - - again tey were out of our favorites. All of the staff have aways been friendly and helpful but the management/ownership is clearly a mess. One can only imagine how poorly management who cannot handle getting food in and out on a consistent basis, handles cleanliness, food handling and quaity control. I will never understand business owners who go through all of the really hard work and expense of setting up a good food service operation, only to destry it with poor business pracitces. 3 strikes - - youre out!

It makes me so sad to leave a one-star review for what was, for three years my favorite taco place in Portland!! However...enough is enough. A few months ago we started to notice the food quality going downhill...at first it was stringy meat, off fish, and some seriously spacey workers messing up orders. But this past Sunday we tried taking an out-of-town friend there and had the worst experience yet. The meat was inedible. Actually...inedible. The beef was too tough to chew, and the pork was burned black on the bottoms of about every other piece. This fish was edible, if a little soggy. We understand that sometimes during the summer it gets crazy busy, so I called Taco Trio to let them know, and they offered us a credit towards future tacos (no refund). We tried to take them up on this, but only four days later, no one can find any evidence of that credit! Attempts to talk with the owner have failed twice now, and the ?manager today was too rushed to do much to help. We canceled our order today and wont be going back. RIP Taco Trio, youll always live on in my memory.

Awesome Mexican food, especially for take out. Lots of delicious traditional fillings like barbacoa and chorizo in burritos, tacos, empanadas, etc. I highly recommend the vegetarian champoniones (sauted mushrooms). Dining area can be crowded when its busy as the seating is pretty compact, but overall it has the relaxed casual atmosphere of a hip neighborhood joint.

Overrated and overpriced. Got order was wrong, my name wrong twice, kids cheese quesadilla was underwhelming, some chips were raw/undercooked, salsa bar desperately needed a refill, but they had time to dance to the music. If u got time to dance, u got time to do better. In the meantime, theres no point in going and chance a bad experience.

A small place with plastic tables - but they genuinely have Mexican staff here! Pretty decent menu selection and the quality is pretty good (excellent by Maine standards but not up to California/Texas and dare I say Mexican standards). Not he biggest place and certainly not fancy, but Ive enjoyed the food the times Ive been there.

Just "discovered" this place today. If you are an authentic Mexican food lover, and not a junk food, alleged Mexican foodie, then this place is for you. Nice atmosphere, quaint, unique, clean, authentic. Friendly order-taker who enthusiastically guided this newbie. FRESH food, delicious, and the real deal.

Love taco trio! However, there new location isnt as tasty?!? Ive had two dried out, choke it down meals recently. And its freezing cold in the new location because the door is always ajar! I still keep going back but always go to Sopo- never a bad taco here! The red sauce enchiladas are delicious!!!

The salsa is great. You can actually tell what you are eating instead of having all the ingredients mixed into a sludge. The burritos are also great. The Meat sometimes has some knotty and hard to chew bits in there, but I consider that a sign that the meat is not processed as much.

Good taste, close to California mexican standards, but they could do better on some details like giving you a basket of chips with your order. Little thing, but it would cost little and add a lot. Also prices could be a bit lower. Otherwise, great, would recommend.

Definitely a fresh and tasty alternative to other Latin food chains, and a fairly competitive price for what it is. Nothing I would rave about, but better than average. Check your to-go orders before you leave as they have some challenges with getting everything...

Taco Trio has got my goat! Everything I have tried there has been satisfying if not yummy, but it is the Barbacoa de Cabra that keeps me coming back. Simple relaxed counter service. No extra charge for fresh tortilla chips and two types of salsa.

Having grown up in Southern California, I doubted that I would ever be able to find good authentic Mexican food in Maine. But Taco Trio comes very very close! I love it, and the Barbacoa De Cabre is the best! Excellent and highly recommended.

Great, fresh Mexican food. The prices are reasonable and it adds great ambiance to the offerings in the Knightville neighborhood area. Good family casual eating. To eat-in, outside at the tables or takeout. I have been there many times.

Easily the best taco / burrito slash Mexican place in Maine. When I moved up here from Texas I was disappointed at the lack of selection and quality Mexican but these guys are on point and Manny is a super nice guy.

Very authentic tacos. The only place in Maine that is comparable to San Diego. If youre looking fpr the real deal, look no further. Fantastic variety of fresh salsa made in house!

Easily the best burrito in the greater Portland area. Worth paying a little more than chipotle/qudoba for the authentic meal they provide at Taco Trio. Also love the salsa bar!
