All things considered, this the best place for brunch & lunch in Louisville. This is where I take out of town friends & clients for a locally owned top quality lunch. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is comfortably upscale without overwhelming while still approachable and familiar at the same time. Oh, did I mention the bread? Fresh baked on premises with quality ingredients. It makes their sandwiches among tops in town. Try the bacon & free range egg pizza - it will surprise in a pleasant way. The pastries & desserts are a standard treat that I must bring home to loved ones each time I come. Editors note: they are my client in a redevelopment project just 2 blocks away. I expect equally wonderful food and a place that matters from future Red Hog Cafe + Butcher in the summer.

Great service! They were on top of everything. I had to get thru quickly so they placed our order before we got a seat because they were very busy. When we got sat they were on top of everything for us. They were vey helpful with the kids and kid friendly. I got a salad with figs, goat cheese and walnuts in it. It was really goo! Reasonable prices. I brought home a nice loaf of bread that didnt cost much more than I would have paid for in the grocery store and it was fresh and delicious! I am ready to go back tomorrow and the next day. I have been recommending it to all my friends.

I love this place! I cant say enough about it. The croissants are out of this world, you cannot find anything a better in all of Louisville may I say even Kentucky? They are made fresh every morning. All their baked goods are made there on location every day. Some reviewers complain about the bad service, but I would disagree. This place is not a fast food place its a place to come relax enjoy the atmosphere have a good conversation and enjoy your food. Yes you may have to wait, but thats because the place is small and super popular and busy.

Food is exquisite and will melt in your mouth. Prices are moderate to high depending on what you order. The coffee was way too hot for me to drink. If you want to sit and eat there be warned you have to ask the counter for a table and may have to wait to be seated. This may be a bakery and have that in their name, be assured you have to wait to be seated although the only place that states this is on an outside table that sits in the sun and yes they will tell you if you try to sit before asking. The staff is courteous at best.

The food here is great. They have a variety of options and all of them taste darn good. However, the cost for these dishes is pretty astronomical and the portions are tiny. Im a small guy named my wife is small too, and we were both still very hungry after our meals. Compared to other restaurants you can get twice as much food and just as good quality. If money is not an issue, its an awesome place for brunch and the outside seating is great on a cool morning.

This place needs some competition. The bread is decent, the neighborhood and atmosphere is great but the service lousy--even uninviting. The lady at the counter who helped us with our bread selection was very impatient and condescending. While the server who waited on us was equally unfriendly and looked exasperated when our friends 2 year-old daughter dropped some crumbs on the floor... We couldnt help feel but unwelcome. Buy your bread and get out.

Terrible service!!! Advised my elderly parents to get some carry out there for lunch and they waited an hour and 20 mins for their sanwiches which there were also mistakes in the order. Guys if youre that busy, expand....if you dont want to expand, just make bread. Leave the lunch to people who can generate a lunch within 15-20 minutes. thats absurd

We stopped here for brunch and food was amazing! This is the loved by the locals as we saw several frequent visitors who knew owners and servers! Baked good were really nice, i loved the macaroons, so fresh! I tried the poached egg pizza for the first time and it was surprisingly good! I will visit again!

The Blue Dog serves great breakfast and lunch food in the cafe located next to the bakery. I highly recommend the innovative salads and sandwiches plus they have some nice microbrews on tap. I visit every time I am in Louisville. The staff is very friendly and my service has always been fine.

Very nice atmosphere for morning brunch or coffee. Its a beautiful little restaurant on Frankfort. I tried the Spinach & Egg with goat cheese quiche and it was delicious, Ill be back to try more! The only complaints I have are the limited hours and the food is slightly overpriced.

Lunch here requires patience. The wait isnt short, but the food is tasty. It can be loud and crowded, and the plates seem a bit pricey for what you get. Be sure to grab a loaf or two of their delicious bread before you leave. 5-stars for bakery 3-stars for cafe

I have probably been to Blue Dog 25-30 times over the last year, and I have never had bad service there. Most of these reviews must be old, because I have always had people explain the different breads to me, remember me, and be kind and courteous.

My husband and I had lunch there recently, outside under the awning. The turkey, swiss and bacon sandwich was delicious and more than I could eat, and my husband loved the pepperoni pizza with arugula. Only downside is very little parking.

I have not eaten at the café but have heard good things. I go up here a couple times a month to get a few loaves of bread. Its one of if not the best bakery in the USA. Their bread remind me of what I would get when I lived in Europe.

The food here is so amazing! Blue Dog has a great environment. I had never been here before and asked my server Hannah to pick something off the menu for me, and she knocked it out of the park. I will absolutely be back here!

Great chocolate croissants and oatmeal molasses cookies. Tipped by John Marianis recent article about Louisville. Rest of bakery goods looked great and will have to try later this week during our visit to Louisville.

Their breakfast is fabulous! We always visit when we are in town, and I cannot express how amazing their desserts and baked goods are. Yes there is usually a wait to be seated, but well worth it.

Food was wonderful, the service was terrible. We waited over 30 minutes for our food. After taking our order our server did not return to our table until after another server had delivered our food.

This is the level of place you have to go early because they sell out of bread. Its not the kind of place that will take a shortcut to make more, faster. Its the best bread in town, imho

The food was good, but the inside of the building is very resonant so it was extremely loud, which made it difficult to have conversations with people who were sitting right next to me.

The hours posted on Google are incorrect. The bakery & center service opens at 7am, with self-seating available. Full service is available from 9-2, and the bakery closes entirely at 4.
