Ill start off by saying I know Ethiopian food. I think this restaurant has potential. The atmosphere could use a little work. The restaurant is quiet and might benefit from some soft background music. The portion sizes arent huge, and some of the dishes were slightly bland. The lamb tibbs were tasty- so kudos on that one. If I went back, Id probably stick with just the lamb tibbs. I didnt care for the vegetarian dishes. The injera was really good and seems as authentic as one can get in a midwestern restaurant. Authentic injera requires specific weather conditions present in Ethiopia/Africa to be truly genuine so altercations are made here in the states to ferment the injera batter to as closely replicate authentic as possible. I would say the restaurant should work on making the atmosphere more inviting and cozy, and working on making sure all dishes are flavorful. But its really nice to see another Ethiopian restaurant in town after the one downtown closed years ago. Oh and skip the baklava- it was weird, not very good and not worth the price. Ive never had baklava without some sort of pistachios/nuts, but for $3.50 you get two small pieces, one without nuts and one with. We just thought a mistake was made with the one without nuts, but they said no its supposed to be that way. Strange- maybe its an Ethiopian thing.

Been waiting for an Ethiopian place to open since I moved to the 319 two years ago, and this did not disappoint. Good atmosphere--they make the most of an otherwise generic, sterile commercial space (whoever decided to swap out the middle row of fluorescent lights for two yellow and one blue bulb is a genius), and the interior decoration is understated but distinct and comforting. The service is top-notch; my server was both very welcoming and very candid about the menu. I had the Nile Special Beef Tibs and Gomen. Absolutely delicious, reasonably priced, perfect portion sizes. Good coffee as well. Nile is a welcome addition to corridor eateries and I hope it sticks around.

I was so excited to eat here today! But when I arrived the service was spotty, the waiter seemed completely disinterested. I ordered vegetarian sambusa but got beef instead and with generic salsa as a dipping sauce. SALSA, what?! Is this a Mexican restaurant or am I just stupid. The food was completely tasteless and bland, basically the opposite of what Ethiopian food is. It was so bad I actually didnt eat it, which is crazy. I NEVER dont eat what I pay good money for. But here I am writing this scathing review after Ive thrown the food away. Im highly disappointed. The saving grace is that the place is cute. Otherwise Id give this place a 0 out of five.

Amazing and flavorful experience. The service was prompt and the food came out quickly. The dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious. I would recommend this budding restaurant to anyone looking for an eating experience not offered anywhere else in the Iowa City/Coralville area!

Great food, comfortable seats, and lots of nice cultural touches from the decor to the bill fold. Great options for vegetarians and the coffee was delicious. I got the combo platter with all 6 vegetarian dishes.

The food was really good - delicious, and you feel good after eating it. Its definitely something a little different, but easy to catch on to (NOT an acquired taste). Good service, too.

At last, an Ethiopian restaurant in Iowa City, and their food is excellent! Injera makes a big difference in this cuisine, and theirs is just right.

Stop looking for your fork, you eat with Injera (Ethiopian Flatbread). Food is amazing! Good vegan options too. The atmosphere is not the best.
