Wow. Im not the type of person who generally complains or would even take the time to write a review, but Im baffled by the experience we had at this restaurant a few nights ago. I do want to say that the food was ok, nothing outstanding, but certainly eatable (probably not worth the price though). Our main concern was the service we received and a shady credit card situation involving the server increasing the amount of her tip. The service was very rushed and it seemed that once we received our food, our server was on a mission to get us out the door as quickly as possible. We sat for extended periods of time with empty beverage and bar glasses as we literally watched our server standing in a servers station texting on her phone. Once things were all said and done she dropped off the check and I saw that there was a gratuity added to the check that she did not inform us of (18% I believe), which is fine, plus some of the people in our party left her additional cash (even though the service was horrible). Long story short, a few days later I noticed that my card had been charged an additional $80.00 beyond what the check and gratuity came to. I called the restaurant and asked if I could come by and get a copy of the credit card receipt to turn into our accounting department and I found that there was literally a $80.00 tip written on the tip line (on top of the gratuity!!!!!) I know that this seems to be a long rant, but the management refused to really acknowledge the situation or refund my money. I was treated as though I was being cheap. This is credit card fraud. If you do decide to visit this establishment, keep an eye on your check and make sure to double check your credit card statement over the next few days. VERY POOR EXPERIENCE.

Good food, until then end of the meal when my wife found a bug in her grilled chicken salad. A dark brown thing about an inch long. Bug shaped.. and seemed to have little buggy legs. Yuck. The waitress came, looked and the bug and apologized. She took the bug and the salad away.... Then the she returned and said it was only an olive. She said it looked like a bug because of the dim lighting. Well, I took her word for it... but when we got outside, my son (with better eyes than mine) said he is certain it was a bug... he had seen insect coloring on the back. My other kids say that they saw legs. They all thought I was just agreeing with the waitress to make my wife feel better. Nope... with my older eyes I just wasnt sure enough to argue... and I didnt want my wife any more upset. So, the moral of the story: if you find a bug at Zeppelins, take a picture with your cell phone before you let the waitress take it away. We will never be 100% certain, but feel pretty confident it was a bug.... and we wont be going back to Zeppelins.

My wife and I received absolutely the worst service at this restaurant. The food was mediocre, luke warm, and simply not worth the expense. Our waitress was a blonde girl named Lisa. When we explained the "luke warm" food temperature to her, she smugly stated that there was nothing she could do about it. We had an equally "delightful" encounter with "Dan", who identified himself as the assistant manager. He smiled and made an effort, but in the end, he did nothing to solve the problem. We finally just told him that wed like to have our check, so that we could just leave. His response........"I dont hate this idea." We were amazed at the disregard this staff shows to its customers. We will never eat in this establishment again, and I hope that you will think twice before giving these people a dime of your hard earned money.

The Chicken Made My Wife And Daughter Sick. The grilled chicken Caesar salad that my wife and daughter shared made them violently ill. The doctor at St. Lukes Hospital said that they more than likely had a touch of food poisoning. When we traced the time-frame back, the only thing that could have caused it was the chicken from the day before. We are not attempting to sue this restaurant, because there is no way to really prove in a court of law, that Zeppelins is at fault. However, I would like to share their experience with you in the hopes that you will not end up in the same situation. On a side note*****The doctor also told us that theyve seen numerous cases of food poisoning with the patients tracing the tainted food back to this Zeppelins. Please take caution when eating in this establishment.

Zeppelins does have decent food, but it doesnt particularly sparkle in the service category. As a former Chef and Bartender, I can tell when staff members have little to no experience. Having employees that are a bit newer to the industry is fine, but they do not seem to get the guidance they need to be successful in pleasing diners. I brought my regional manager here the other day and they were struggling to cover their tables. We waited, and waited, and waited. honestly I was a bit embarrassed because I recommended the place, and it made me look like a fool. The food was good, but when the service lacks basic understanding of the emotions of the customer, you lose them.

I was told Zeppelins was very similar to the Irish Democrat. It was NOTHING like it. My adult grandsons and I ate at Zeppelins and found the food to be poor. We have always gotten great food at the Irish Democrat, so eating the poor food at Zeppelins was very disappointing. Also found what looked like a bug in my salad. When I showed it to the server, she took my dish then returned without the "bug" and told me that it was an olive. Olives do NOT have legs. I was sickened by the thought of eating part of this salad and more so by the attitude regarding it. I am not hard of seeing. My grandsons could not eat the rest of their food either. Never again.

My husband and I love to come from Iowa City to eat at Zeppelins. We ate there this past Saturday for an early lunch while we were there picking up something from Home Depot. They werent busy at all, and our waitress was wonderful. We asked her about their soups for the day- and she said she had to check. She was taking a little longer to find out that information and I kind of wondered where she went. She came back to our table with two samples each for my husband and I of their two soups for the day. That was so thoughtful! Natalie was our waitress- Zeppelins manager- take note. Natalie is a good one!

I ordered the filet mignon based upon recommendation from the waiter. Ordered it medium rare. It completely lacked seasoning so had to salt and pepper it myself and half of the steak was so dry it was near inedible. The other half was closer to medium rare and somewhat less dry. Ive been here once before and had the reubeun sandwich which was phenominal but on this occasion my experience was quite disappointing. I would not order steak from here again. Seasoning and cooking a steak is like culinary school 101. Would expect better quality from the chef for the prices they are charging.
