This place is pathetic. Simply having the best beer in the state doesnt excuse the abomination that this place has turned into. My wife and I arrived around 5 oclock to have a few beers and a burger before our date night. There was 1 open table for two, and another that just needed to be wiped off. They had 4 servers inside. After standing by the entrance as the only people needing to be seated for 25 minutes, we approached the front end "manager" and asked why we hadnt been seated yet. She explained that her servers were incompetent and she had to micro-manage everything. SHE wouldnt allow her servers to seat us because she was instructing them on whose water glass to refill and what table need more napkins. After we had been standing around staring at them for 35 minutes, they finally wiped off the table for 2 and seated us. No waters, no menus, no greeting. We sat around watching other people eat and drink for about 15 minutes before we left. The waiters booth is right next to the door. NONE of them made an effort to keep us as customers. they didnt apologize or offer a remedy. We had been there for almost an hour. Upland employees some of the most bafflingly dumb human beings that have ever lived. Most of them would be better off in padded room, coloring.

Upland Brewing Co. has the potential to be one of the best restaurants in town. Their beer is great, particularly the Dragonfly IPA and some of the seasonals. However, the food is priced above-average for pub food and simply not that great. Not much attention paid to cooking a burger right (a $10 burger better taste like one!), sometimes small portions, unimpressive entrees, boring soups and dessert menu. Nothing is terrible, its just not that great, especially for the price If the food was better wed eat here all the time. I also have no idea why they got rid of the $2 pint special on Sundays. Edit (4-14-2011): Just an update that Upland has a new chef and changed its menu. I recently had the best burger Ive ever had here. Something must have changed. Im still a little baffled by the too-upscale menu overall (lamb tagine? frenchiladas) but at least theyre finally doing the burger right.

Great atmosphere adds to the great food and local beers. They have rotating big dinner salad options, which is something that is often overlooked in other restaurants. Their choice to use locally raised beef and bison ensures that the meat is both delicious and you feel good about your choice to eat it rare. A final note about this place is the staff. We have been going here for about a decade and some of the staff are still there and many others for more than 4 or 5 years. They are friendly and extremely competent. It is quite clear that not only is bar high for the brews and food, but the organization must be great to its staff as well. In a town with a large number of great dining options, this remains a favorite. Enjoy!

My boyfriend and I are beer enthusiasts, and we love Upland! Not only do they have a wide variety of tasty and unique beers, but their menu is chock-full of delicious and reasonably priced food. Turkey clubs, burgers, that sort of thing. We have yet to find something that isnt delicious. Overall, the atmosphere is nice, the staff is good, and the food is great. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting or living in Bloomington! P.S. If youre looking to try lots of different types of beer, get a sampler! It gives you 8oz of 7 different beers to try, so its great if youre looking to explore and try lots of different ones without spending a ton of money on individual drinks. Plus, its good to share with the table!

Upland has great beer and good food, but it seems that over the 8 years Ive been going, I feel less and less satisfied. Prices have gone up, portions have gone down, and a few times I felt downright ripped off (such as the pricey and inappropriately named olive tapenade appetizer which featured a whopping 2 tablespoons of olive mush on the whole plate.) I appreciate the good vegetarian selection, and the fact that they have a strictly vegetarian fryer. I still bring visitors there, because they do seem to have something for everyone. My advice is to stick to the cheaper sandwiches and save your money for more Dragonfly IPA.

Let me start by saying that I enjoyed my wheat beer, it was very good, but the food situation would keep me from going back there. I ordered the fried green tomatoes and the mac and cheese. I shared the tomatoes with a friend who never had them before. I tried one and immediately regretted that this was my friends first experience with them. As an entree, I had the mac and cheese; it was the blandest mac and cheese I have ever had, even after adding salt, pepper and a bit of my leftover chili, it was inedible. I left the place hungry.

We tend to stop by for lunch if we are in the area. Nice atmosphere. Its not very big - I could see it getting pretty crowded during peak times. Beers are excellent. Food is excellent. Upland Wheat is my favorite, and is quite different "fresh" than what is sold in bottles in the Indianapolis area. If I could change one thing, I think it would be to expand the restrooms (each of them is only one-at-a-time). :( Recommend a visit for all beer geeks. And get some to go!

One of our favorite spots when were in B-town. Great beer, especially the seasonal brews. Amazing staff - once two of our burgers were overcooked, then undercooked, and finally right on the third try, the waitress not only was all genuine smiles and apologies, but also cut our burgers price in half and got our beer flight. I love their outdoor seating and great atmosphere. In all the times Ive been here, still havent checked out the brewery tour, but looking forward to it.

Of the times Ive gone to Upland its always been on a weekend evening. Which means theres a lot of people. However, no matter how packed it is, I seem to always have a great time and an excellent meal. Their burgers are great, the macaroni is delicious, and the fish and french fries are great. The service was quick and friendly as well. Definitely recommend this to anyone who likes a fun and somewhat loud (at least on the weekends) atmosphere.

Dont go in the cold months; go when its warm and you can sit outside. Personally, Ive found this place to be a bit claustrophic because the indoors seating is quite crowded and loud. Im not a fan of having to scoot my chair in every 5 minutes to let someone by. Personally, I think Upland is a little bit overrated. I dont think the food is overly extraordinary, and I really wouldnt consider a visit unless it was warm enough to sit outside.

Really nice atmosphere, large open floor plan but surprisingly quiet overall. Food was excellent, had the Cuban and Ruben sandwiches - plenty big that we should have ordered one and split it. Beer was good, but not great, solid offerings but no standouts. Really great flight though, as for under $10 you can get seven 6oz. pours; five fixed standard selections and two of five seasonal brews that you pick.
