5 stars doesnt mean it is a 5 star restaurant; it means I really, really liked it! We wanted something a little different without driving too far.We were so happy we gave this place a try. 2 adults, 3 kids (ages 2-6). Fancy enough for a date (we forgot about the mini golf and batting cages around us once inside), casual enough to stop in after taking the kids to the park. Sushi was prepared generously. The ingredients were very fresh. No plastic grass here! My sashimi slices were on a fine sea kelp that was on a shiso leaf which sat ontop of a huge mound of finely shredded daikon. The miso soup was very flavorful (I only got 2-3 sips because my kids hijacked my bowl). The prices were amazingly reasonable (Sushi rolls starting at $3.00!). The kids got the chicken fried rice and chicken noodles which were both adult portions running at $10 ea. I wish they had childrens portions, although I didnt ask. Anyhoo, we had a huge amount to take home. I definitely prefer this to Bistro Wasabi, even though this is a BYOB establishment. Service was attentive and prompt. Its my new favorite neighborhood restaurant!

Golden Rolls has great sushi, but high turnaround on wait staff. I think part of the problem is the lunch shift is not busy enough to keep wait staff. Ive been to other sushi restaurants that are busy at lunch--but not when Ive been in at Golden Rolls. What they need is to freshen up their lunch specials! The bento box is good, but not what everyone is looking for at lunch. And Woodstick has plenty of restaurants to feed the tough lunch crowd. How about an $8.99 you pick 2 rolls? Or $14.99 2 rolls and nagiri special? I also dont like that I go in there for dinner, spend $70 on sushi plus drinks, and am ordering from a laminated take out menu. Love the sushi!!!

We keep trying other sushi restaurants in the area, and honestly, nothing comes close to Golden Rolls in Woodstock. We are so spoiled on their amazingly fresh, high quality sushi that other places taste like bland imitations. I cant even explain it, but if you like good sushi and not just the deep fried American rolls, but really good nigiri and sashimi, this is the place. Try the Sashimi Carpaccio and whatever you do, dont skip the salmon nigiri! Super White tuna is another big favorite. . . Reasonably priced for the quality and the sashimi and nigiri pieces are huge! You will not be disappointed.

Tried to order over the phone after he got my name it we got disconnected then I proceeded to place an order in person. I arrived at the restaurant and I overheard my name and the one of the waiters proceeded to tell his coworker about the incident and said that I was a waste of their time. Will not be eating here would rather drive out of my way to Crystal Lake for sushi.

This place is great and the best and only place to eat sushi in McHenry County! As far as all the other other places, I have been to this has to be one of the best sushi restaurants that Ive been to. The spider roll is to die for. Forget Kyoto in Crystal Lake, forget Sukura in McHenry, forget Tu Casa, Sushi Station...this is the place for sushi.

Pretty amazing sushi. Try out the beef sashimi, the spicy tuna rolls, or my favorite - the super white tuna nigiri - its amazing. My son loves the ramune soda. My wife loves their scallops. My 2 year old daughter loves to scream at the top of her lungs, and tries to stab people with chopsticks. Sorry Golden Rolls.

No joke, one of the best places Ive had sushi at. Its connected to a mini golf place, which could be kind of deterring, but dont let it be. I love this place. I live fifteen min. away, but Id travel over an hour to eat here.

My wife and I have been here many times. Weve had the sushi, appetizers, salmon, terriaki chicken and various drinks. Everytime weve gone its been very good. Never been disappointed.
