FUN FOR ONE-TIME, BUT PORTILLOS HAS BETTER FOOD AND VALUE My spouse and I tried this place out for the first time, which may have been long overdue considering weve already lived for several years in Wheeling. Now we can say its off our list of the book, "100 Things to Do Before You Die." Sometimes not all of the experiences are great ones or even good ones, but its a fairly memorable one. First its only fair to Superdawg to qualify my review by saying that we are likely not their target market. This would likely be more enjoyable for a family with kids. But on the other end, we try to avoid fast food places that would probably make a good sequel to Morgan Spurlocks "Super Size Me!" On the plus side, the place clearly has a fun exterior and interior design, and everything was very clean. We ordered inside and got a Superdawg, a Supersteak sandwich, two orders of Superveggies, and a chocolate shake. (The sandwiches come with fries and they dont allow for substitutes, which was a disappointment to us.) OUR BETTER EXPERIENCES... Our most pleasant experiences actually turned out to be the side items and condiments. This was the first time I had been served a wedge of green tomato with a sandwich, and I liked it. (It was also one of the few things that hadnt been fried!) Our Superveggies were deep fried, which was no surprise to us, but it was the first time we both had deep-fried battered creamed corn, and it was tasty as well. THE OK EXPEREINCES... My steak sandwich was alright to me, nothing spectacular, and my spouse seemed to enjoy it more than I did. The Superdawg tasted good but nothing spectacular, and was flowing with the artificially-colored green relish. (I love Chicago hot dogs, but thats my one peeve.) THE BIG DISAPPOINTMENTS The fries were mostly overcooked and small, which is probably why they wouldnt allow for substitutes since they appeared to be the easiest thing to fit into the cardboard boxes we were served with our sandwiches. Also the so-called "Supershake" we paid $3.95 plus tax came in just a 12-ounce cup. Seriously, you cant call your fountain beverage "super" if it comes in a size that would pass for the smallest beverage serving anywhere else! Perhaps if we didnt have Portillos around, or even other local-style places right in a half-mile from us, we might give it a better review than 2 stars. But if youre in either Wheeling or Chicago, all I can say is after youve had the one-time experience, you can certainly do better. But hey, after driving past it for years now, we can have the assurance of a memorable experience, and it does look cool on the outside!

WOW!!! What a waste of money! $22 for 2 hotdogs and a Cheeseburger and small coke. The burger wasnt even McDonalds level quality. No lettuce no sliced tomato. Instead you get hotdog toppings for your burger. Chopped onion and relish on a burger, REALLY? The hotdogs were a soggy smashed into a way to small of a box mess. The bun is wet, the dog it self was not Vienna quality. Then it has a green tomatoe wedge on it. The fries are like mini crinkle cut fries. They were ok. We threw out half a burger and half of 1 of the hotdogs and all but 2 bites of the other and most of the fries. The car hop babe (she was really cute) said she could tell we werent happy. Im absolutely astonished there was a full parking lot during my 1 and only visit Ill ever make. Did I mention we thru out probably $15 worth of the $22 of food we ordered. I love Chicago hotdogs and this is the last place I would recommend to have one at.

There is no better place in the world to get a hot dog. The place is magical. The hotdog is an excellent quality jumbo kosher dog, the pickled tomato is unique, and the box this beautiful dawg lounges in is iconic. Ive been going to Superdawg for 20 years and have eaten at every hot dog place in the North Shore. Nothing compares to Superdawg in this area. There is a reason why this place was one of the 64 hot dog places featured by Serious Eats in the "The Search for Americas Best Hot Dog" contest. It my opinion, it should have won. Eat the dawg when you get it--the fries will be crisp and delicious. Let them sit in the box like some other fool reviewers did, and yes, they will get soggy. Duh. Their milkshakes are incredible too. And their onion chips. I think I might go there tomorrow, come to think of it!

Today was my first time at this location. The Wheeling location had been open since 2010. It is looking rough for only being open for six years. Paint peeling and rusty showing. It needs a good scrub and repainting. There interior was in pretty good shape though. As for the food, same as the original location. I had the Super Cheese Burger. Good flavor and toppings were fresh. I like the nice touch of the pickled tomato. The fries were cooked just right. Service was quick and friendly. Bicycling: Milwaukee at this location is horrible for cycling. The DesPlaines River Trail is on the other side of the river, but not easily accessable to the restaurant. I didnt see and place to lock a bicycle up either.

I dont understand all the hypes about this place broadcasted on tv all that. I did try twice just to see if I had ordered something wrong before even write this review. So called superdawg they call it was just soggy cheap hotdog clogged in with fries. I felt they try to make your money worth with enough fries to fill you up, so no complain after paying $5 for a hotdog. Their polish was very greasy and hamburgers as well. I get it, people still say its good place for burgers and dogs, but they really need to upgrade something differentiate from other joint. Also they need to train their servers, their speed, attitude was very disappointing comparing to Portilos or even McDonalds. Its a shame....

Dont waste your time coming here. Wife, daughter and I couldnt wait to eat there and was glad Its closer to us now. The fries were horrible, my burger was like rubber. The waitress said to is that they have had complaints about the fries since they have been changing the recipe. Good for us!!! She apologized to is about the food, and said next time just ask for her, and shell give us free desert. Sorry, theres not going to be a next time. She shouldve adjusted our bill then, and maybe well consider giving it a second chance. Definitely not the same as the original Super Dawg.

This was my first time here, and I was highly disappointed. I got the Superdawg combo and an extra side of fries with a cup of cheese. The actual hot dog was tasty minus the unripe tomato. They added a couple of extra hot peppers which was great, I feel like most places are stingy with there hot peppers. That was about the only thing I enjoyed from my 13 dollar meal. The fries where not fresh and cheese tasted like it was reheated or something. It wasnt smooth and creamy like the cup of cheese Im used to. As i finished eating my meal I was left something else.

First time coming here and was a bit disappointed. I did the curb side service, not the drive thru. I got the Superdawg. The hotdog was good, though its nothing I couldnt have made at home I feel. The fries that came with it were overcooked (not burnt). The biggest issue I think I had was the wait. It was at least 20 minutes to get my food. Another 10 minutes to get my credit card back. The only relatively fast part was the employee retrieving the car tray. I think if youre really wanting curb side service, Id suggest going to Sonic.
