There is nothing like finding a new hidden treasure. There are a lot of Asian restaurants in the area but many of them are not worth my time, so I am excited to finally have a new one to add to my list. We tried to come on a Monday and found it was closed on Mondays, so we returned a couple days later to give it a shot. Walking in, I was greatly encouraged by the fact that nearly all the patrons were Asian -- a good sign. There are just 10 or so tables in this small restaurant but the environment is very nice, clean, and relatively up-to-date, much better than the average strip mall restaurant. The service was quick and friendly. I ordered the General Tsos Chicken (not real Chinese food, I know) and my wife ordered Mongolian Beef. Her beef was absolutely succulent and not covered in sauce like it tends to be in other places. My General Tsos had what I always look for first -- crispy breading. This is rare, particularly in suburban restaurants, so this is a big win for Hong Kong Cafe. On the downside, the flavor was not quite what I expect from this dish. As such, I would not order this particular item again, but would happily order plenty of other things from the menu. The lunch specials were perfectly sized: plenty of food but not a mountain of it. The hot and sour soup I got with it was delicious and perfect. At only $6 a piece, the price is great. I brought my 2 year old son along, who had a chicken/egg/corn soup that was pretty tasty. I liked that they gave him a proper kids sippy cup with a straw that didnt spill, a rarity from any restaurant. This is tied with House of Pho as my new favorite Asian restaurant in the Schaumburg area!

I dont know why they include tip in the total amount of the food. We waited awhile before our order was taken, the water given to all 6 of us was only 3/4 full per glass and they never came back to refill it. I had to ask for my sisters water which she did not finish. Their fruit flavored drinks did not taste well because they used fruit flavored powder instead of real fruit. We ordered 2 of same dish and when the waitress came, she dropped the 2 plates on one side quickly without hesitance and nary a smile or recognition of us and left hurriedly busily talking to another customer. You call this SERVICE? SERVICE? And they made sure that they got their full 15% tip by force? Is that really what tip is ? As far as food, it is ok. What if we did not pay the whole tip amount and just left....would they have gone after us out in the parking lot to our car and collect the rest of it? I have a great hunch they would have .....for sure.

I dont understand why other review said the owner didnt like kids, The owner of the restaurant love my kids, and I saw them playing with customers kids all the time. But one thing I do understand that why the owner with take some actions with people dont attend to their kids while dinning, they just let their kids running everywhere inside the restaurant, just like their own play room. ( bad parenting ), they should be grading themselves, and not someone else. Anyway, HK cafe have excellent, excellent, Chinese food, I am from Hong Kong, and they have my kind of HK style cooking. I definitely recommend them to all my friends. Next time when you go there, ask the owner whats good, they will surely give you good idea.......love it.......yummy

I never leave reviews, but after searching in the area for a few years and being disappointed by the authentic Chinese food options, I felt compelled to write. If you have tried Hong Kong fare, this place is a great place to go. The black peppered beef short ribs, general tsos, egg rolls, and yang chow fried rice are by far the best in the area. The lo mein was also flavored with Chinese spices that I loved. I tried the shrimp wontons because I grew up eating authentic homemade ones, and found these to be very tasty. I had my family with children along, and the service was friendly and competent. Definitely know Im done searching the area!

I ordered here today for a carry out and the lady whose taking orders was such a b**** I was just clarifying what time in picking up the food I ordered and shes like "I already told you what time!" In a condescending voice. Such bad customer service , cant even say it nicely , theres nothing wrong with just clarifying the time. Also note she made such a big deal about my American Express card, she can at least say it nicely. But this lady is so weirdly mean to her customers. Anyways the food is good but if the that lady (I think shes the owner because shes not waiting tables) is there, I dont want to give them my business.

Great food and service. 5 stars for taste, quantity, and price. The Cantonese style dishes are well made while the American-Chinese dishes are surprisingly good. This restaurant puts quite a lot on the plate so we often end up taking half back for another meal. I also enjoy the menu thats large and varied. Its not a big restaurant but its clean and civilized. There are TVs that always play some kind of Chinese network. They serve bubble tea and smoothies with tapioca which are fresh and taste great. Overall this place is better than any establishment in Chinatown.

Love all the tofu options here. (Note most the tofu options have meat in them). Husband likes the orange chicken. Best hot & sour soup in the area. They often have chocolate fortune cookies, which I prefer to the normal kind. Good for carry-out, but avoid the fried sauce free dishes (like the Pi Pa Tofu) if doing carry-out because the condensation from the food cooling in the take out containers makes it not as crispy as it is eating in.

Eating at this humble restaurant is like being invited into someones kitchen for true home-cooked fare. The food is not typical restaurant fare. The menu contains a number of items that you will not find at usual Chinese restaurants. I have eaten here three times and enjoyed the food greatly each time. If I did not live in Florida, I would eat here often.

When you walk into the place you see a lot Asians sitting down eating there. That should give you an idea that the food must be good if the place is loaded with Asians. The food here is comparable to many of the local restaurants in Chinatown. I recommend it highly. Food is good and the decor is pretty much what you find in Chinatown, adequate.

Parents beware!! The owners (the couple) do NOT like kids. If your kids are messy when eating, then do NOT even think of having lunch/dinner at this place. The owners will get mad at you and you will end up with useless argument just because your kids spill water on the table. Food is good, but the owners are horrible. Goood Luck!

Wow! Hospitality AND good examples of Chinese fare. It cannot get much better than this. The soups are great. The Egg Foo Yung is great. The Egg Rolls are great. The Pork Fried Rice is great. What more is there? The hostess was gracious and offered tea while we waited for our carry out order...never had that experience before.
