I was there with a large group, and the mandatory tip of 20% was shown on the receipt (nearly $50), then on the credit swipe machine receipt, they had added an additional 20% tip. When we brought it to the staffs attention, they only offered to void the first charge and then make a second charge with the correct amount. Therefore we were charged twice for our meal and mandatory tip+ an extra tip. The staff only offered to void and recharge in this fashion. They did not offer a cash refund of the duplicate tip. They did not offer a discount or free meal, as you would expect in a case where the restaurant has fraudulently added a tip. Now getting to the mandatory tip. They were not willing to allow us to adjust the tip after their huge failing at billing us the first time. Who wants to give 20% tip to a waiter who just tried to take you for $50? Yet because it is their "policy", we were forced to give the 20% tip for this kind of service. So my advice if you are considering visiting this restaurant, dont go. Who knows how many countless parties they have defrauded. If you must go, please double check your receipt. The staff is not above overcharging their customers. Check your bank statements too. The man in my party who paid the bill and was the target of this fraud was celebrating his 89th birthday. They are targeting parties of elderly with these fraudulent practices. I used to like the Happ Inn, but we wont be going back there anymore.

Went for Easter Brunch. Nice appetizer/dessert buffet, great food, but terrible service. Server came by to ask for our drinks, then to get our order, then as I sat with an empty glass and plate for 30 mins while picking at what was left of my garnish I finally flagged someone else down to ask for another drink. 15mins later it came out via a runner, and it took me searching around for her for the check after that. We probably could have finished off another 3 drinks and more food, but nobody ever came around. And it wasnt that busy that it was like she was overloaded - she was just gone. I was looking forward to this being a 2-3 hour experience of food and drink, but our server NEVER came around to allow that to happen. We just sat there most of the time. Oh, and then the check comes out with a 20% service charge. For a party of 2. Thanks. Did they think I wasnt one to tip for good service (I do, and generously - service is 90% of why I eat out)? Food was well worth the price, but the less-than-mediocre service really was irritating. Ill give the restaurant another try because the food was great and front door staff was really nice, with the hope that this poor service experience was just an anomaly.

My first experience at the Happ Inn was very disappointing. The food was pretty good but the service was horrendous. Our server Maria took forever to greet our table and when she finally did she was not at all apologetic for making us wait. I asked for my burger to be cooked medium, when it arrived it was WELL DONE. I told the waitress and she seemed annoyed to have to send it back. We were not asked once how our food was tasting and if we wanted anything we had to flag our server or one of the other servers down to be helped. She seemed to take and process my credit card quickly though. Needless to say I will NOT be going back to this place. I can get better service at a Fridays.

For these "well known" restaurant owners we were very disappointed. The space was beautiful but very noisy. No rolls were served. Sweet potato fries were extra, which seemed tacky. Salad with salmon was nothing special. My husband had a fish sandwich which was very small and also nothing special. Menu is limited and has nothing unusual, except for high prices for what is served. We dont understand the good reviews. We love Cafe Central which has delicious food. There are so many better places to get a hamburger, ribs, chicken or salad. We went twice and there is no reason to go back. We had expected better from these owners.

A large upscale neighborhood restaurant. This is a friendly place, everyone seems to know everyone. A beautiful bar, located off the entrance, is stocked, literally, to the ceiling. The menu is extensive and includes vegan and gluten free items. The baked goods, including the house baked bread, contain eggs. Thats important if youre a vegan. Our table of seven, order pretty much the extent of the menu. The report: everything was well cooked and presented. I had a humus with cut vegetables. Its not on the menu. You may order by phone and pick up. Wheelchair-accessible including bathrooms. Free parking.

Not enough room for waiting at the front. Stuffy atmosphere, full of spoiled North Shore "A-Holes!" Tables are way too close together, so you cant help but to listen to the conversations of others, and they to yours. Lastly, if youre looking for an eclectic, diverse dining experience, do not go there. The only non-anglos are the staff thats serving you! Food was good, but not worth the price or the horrible atmosphere you must endure as you dine.

Saturday night and the place was jammed. The suburbs appear to have a lack of this kind of venue. Too bad they cant import a few from River North. Reservations were honored within reason. The variety of food was great. Something for everyone. The menu leans toward Mexican, so we went with the Enchiladas mole. They were tasty and typical. Interesting, imaginative wine list. A nice nod to the years this couple spent at Carlos. Try it on a Sunday!

Very disappointed with everything. The service was terrible.Food thrown on the table. Messed up orders. We use to come to this restaurant when it opened. All of the best menu items are gone. Price were significantly raised with for food and drinks. Extras for everything. Just not worth it. We will never go there again. The people sitting next to us said the exact same thing. They left early.

Quaint and warm atmosphere with an amazing daily drink special and awesome guacamole and chips. A gentleman by the name of Jim welcomed us and made us feel so special that we came back. He truly was the reason we came back. You can buy a drink anywhere but you cannot always world class service. The Happ is my new favorite place and Ive been telling everyone about it.

Our go to neighborhood restaurant. We do takeout quite a bit from this location. Excellent Cobb chicken salad. Great burger. Dining in was phenomenal too. There was a simple mistake on our order and they comped us the order and gave us a dessert. Now thats customer service that will keep customers coming back. Cant recommend this place enough!

Great food, casual atmosphere! We love the Happ Inn. Their regular menu items are great and a lot of times the specials are outstanding. My wife recently had a pot roast that was on their specials that was one of the best pot roasts I have ever tasted. Highly recommended just have a reservation because it does get busy.

Poor service. Crabby waitress in the bar area. never came around to our table. then got even crabbier because we had to shout for her across the room. then included the standard 18% tip for our table of 5. Ive been here a few times before with mediocre service. will not be back after tonight.
