Went to Tannins after eating at restaurant in Elmhurst for an after dinner drink the evening of 2/21/09. My girlfriend and I had never been there before and did not know what to expect, but were always curious to check it out because it looked interesting whenever we walked by. After entering the place we stood in the door for about a minute because we wanted to take a seat and order a round of drinks. We were not acknowledged by anyone working there, so we walked in to the back where they have wine for sale. After looking around for about 5 minutes I went up to the bar and asked someone who worked there if we could take a look at their wine menu to get an idea of what they were serving. We were handed two menus, and not spoken to after that. After standing at the bar with menu in hand for a few minutes, with barely an acknowledgement from those who were working there, my girlfriend and I decided to leave. Of any customer experience I have had, in any industry, this ranks up with being one of the worst. There were a total of 4 people sitting at the "bar" drinking wine, 1 person making a walkout purchase, and my girlfriend and I, in the establishment - and from what I can tell there were 3 employees working. We did not even hear a "Hello" during the time we were there. It is unfathomable to me, in the current economic environment, that a business owner would blatantly ignore potential customers, with cash in hand. We will never set foot in this place again.

We just had my daughters bridal shower at Tannins and it was a huge success!! The atmosphere is charming and inviting, the food (catered by Mike and Cindy) was perfect with the wines we chose and the service was wonderful. Mike and Cindy could not have been more accommodating and helpful with the planning of the event and were so very gracious to all of our guests! We had nothing but compliments! I highly recommend Tannins Wine Bar for your next small to medium sized event!

We had the pleasure of visiting Tannins over Christmas Break and we loved everything about this place. The staff was very knowledgeable and provided our group with a number of different wine ideas. We had some delicious appetizers which our entire group enjoyed. We had to grab some wine to go as we left and the staff gave me names of wines that I would never would have bought and they were all exceptional. A real gem in downtown Elmhurst!!!!

We have been shopping at Tannins since the shop opened and buy all of our wine here and have bought specialty beer there too. The owner Lisa is amazing and always helps us choose the perfect wine for us. We are always amazed at how affordable Tannins is and see no need to shop anywhere else. Its great to be able to try a variety of wines at the wine bar and really enjoy their frequent tastings.

Tannins is an incredible wine bar with an excellent selection of wines, liquors, and beer. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the environment is incredibly welcoming for a relaxing evening out of the house. Hosted trivia nights, live music on Thursdays, and the occasional special event make this place a spot to keep coming back to.
