Worst restaurant experience Ive ever had. Im not one to post about my experiences at restaurants but I feel compelled to share after yesterdays mothers day debacle. We decided to treat mom to a nice Italian dinner with a 6:30pm reservation on mothers day. As we were driving over, we got a call at 6:20 (10 mins before our reservation) stating that the restaurant was running 30-45 mins behind. We decided to wait it out since it was too late to make another reservation elsewhere. The hostess was completely overwhelmed, and the entire restaurant understaffed. (The bartender was running back and forth outside to wait on multiple tables). After over an hour and 15 minutes waiting for our name to be called - and seeing multiple parties go before us - we were finally seated. We promptly placed our orders at 8pm - after over half of the restaurant had already cleared out. Like the rest of the evening, there was a significant delay with getting our food. The waiter came out multiple times to tell us the kitchen was running behind and that we would be getting our food shortly. We did not receive our food until 9! A full 2 and a half hours after our reservation! Our repeated requests to speak to the manager were brushed aside as he was busy directing traffic in the kitchen. We finally got to speak to a waiter who was serving as the "de facto manager". The owner was not even present on what Im assuming is one of their busier nights of the year. As for the food itself, we were not impressed. My mothers lobster stuffed ravioli was nothing but cheese and tiny, unidentifiable remnants of lobster. My fettuccine alfredo was severely under cooked - the noodles were still hard and had very little flavor. My brother-in-laws Gnocchi in red pepper sauce woke him up in the middle of the night and caused him to miss work today for reasons I wont mention. NEVER AGAIN. DONT GO.

What a pleasant surprise! We go to downtown Downers with a car almost every Friday night during the summer and just walked right past this place because it appeared too high brow for a gearhead and his wife. Well to make a long story short, last night was our 44th wedding anniversary so I wanted to treat my wife to a special dinner. I picked this place after talking to Dominic on the phone. He said we would be welcomed in even with my shorts, gym shoes and a Grumpy T-shirt on. We went and they catered to my wifes demands for a ribeye steak medium well done and my food with no garlic. This is the first time my wife’s was not asked to slice the steak to see if it met her requirements and my food did not have a hint of garlic and for an Italian restaurant, that was a miracle in my mind and the wife’s steak was perfect ! They treated us like royalty and put rose petals on the table and gave us tiramisu on the house for our anniversary. By the way, their coffee tasted like the good stuff I would get on my many trips to Germany in the past. I called my son this morning to tell him of this find in Downers so he too could treat his wife to an excellent meal and low and behold he said: “Dad, that’s the place I told you about years ago that was located in a small strip mall in Naperville near the Ogden Ave. and New York Ave. turn. They are great and never knew where they disappeared to. Thanks for finding them for us….” So if you like excellent food, great personal service at moderate prices, I suggest you try them out like we did. Thanks, Capri and Dominic, for a very nice anniversary dinner for the two of us. See you soon, Grumpy

The food we had tonight was all subpar and not even close to authentic italian. After waiting 15 minutes for a waiter to see us, it then took another 15 to get our drinks, and another hour after that to get our meals. We sat another 30 minutes waiting for our bill at the end of the meal. All of this service was done by a waitress that had little class and knowledge about how to treat guests, which was not what i would expect from her since she claimed to be there from the start. The other help were not even trained to recognize silverware positions on a plate to denote resting or completion, something basic when spending that kind of money on food. Based on my experience in the restaurant industry, it was blatantly obvious the the food had been sitting under heat lamps for far too long. The carbonara I ordered was basically an alfredo, authentic carbonara does not have any cream in it at all. All the food was far overpriced and the wine was beyond absurd. I would never go back and would not recommend them to anyone by any means.

Beware of Capri on Valentine’s Day! I had been wanting to try Capri and heard really positive reviews so me and my boyfriend decided to give it a go for Valentine’s Day. Overall, we were extremely disappointed with our experience. First, we had to wait about twenty minutes past our reservation… ok that happens and it’s a holiday, but once we were seated we could tell that they had obviously overbooked and in result, we did not see much of our busy server and our food was not as good as it could have been. They were also only offering a limited Valentine’s Day menu and would not allow you to order from their regular menu. Choosing from the limited and what I later learned to be overpriced menu was difficult and again disappointing. That said, I have to admit that I enjoyed the general atmosphere and had it been a regular night when we could pay fair prices and select from their full menu, I might have a better review.

1st timers. Wonderful from the start! We were greeted warmly and arrived early so we sat at the beautiful bar for about 15 minutes. Our server, Lindy came over and welcomed us and gave us time to look over the menu. We were given fresh, hot bread and it was DELICIOUS!! We ordered bruchetta for an app and it was probably the best I ever tasted!!!! The Caesar salads fresh and crisp! I ordered lingini and clams and my daughter ordered pasta puffs. Perfectly cooked! Tiramusi cake was brought for my birthday daughter and Lindy sang! Sweet! We also ordered bananas foster. The dessert was fantastic as well as the presentation!!! We were completely impressed with the service as well! Empty dishes taken away promptly, water glasses filled, asking us if we need anything.... really, really exceptional service! Truly amazing atmosphere, service, and food!!! Cant wait to return!!!

I was at Capri to celebrate my anniversary this past Christmas Eve. I knew it was going to be a rough night as soon as I walked in. The first face I saw was a server whom I told I had reservations and yet somehow the message was miscommunicated to the host and I ended up sitting at a table next to the door on a cold winter night. I proceeded to order an appetizer that took 50 minutes to be served. I told the man who brought out the appetizer I was ready to order, but since he wasnt our server he had to notify our original server. As I watched my "original server" take orders from 3 others tables on top of another 30 minute wait, I decided it was time to leave. Rude host, awful service, and terrible food. Dont waste the time and money on this place.
