I would give The Cottage 2.5, but I can only choose 2 or 3 so I have to go on the low end. I have been to the cottage many times. There food is definitely food. Thats it. Nothing special. Mediocre at best. Their beer selection is your standard havent-caught-up beer selection. They usually have domestics and 2 to 3 craft selections that arent ever anything to rave about. Their service is a hit or miss. Its either fine and not overly great or its bad....really bad. Tonight it was bad, again. Thus the review. I ordered carry out and whoever answered the phone was very rude. Then when I went in to pick up, again had to deal with a rude attitude and slow service. Then I got back and opened the container and the order was incorrect!!! I think I am going to give the cottage a break and look else where.

Went to this restaurant/bar last weekend. We paid our bill with our debit card and noticed that additional charges were made by the Cottage. We contacted the Owner/Manager of this establishment thinking it was a mistake on the servers end, but instead, was told that we were liars and that it never happened. We have filed a police report to investigate the situation. I would NEVER RECOMMEND this place to anyone and would warn future patrons about our experience and the integrity of this place. This is not the way customers should be treated!

The Cottage is a pretty nice place to go get a drink and have some food. For the most part, this is a towny location. Many of the people here on any given night are regulars and often know each other to some extent. That being said, a first timer should be welcome without any problem. The food is quite good and the take out is a nice alternative to pizza or Chinese food. Although it may not be the fanciest place in town, The Cottage is nonetheless a solid option for dining in downtown Crystal Lake.

While described as a "peanuts on the floor" kind of place, I would agree with that assessment. We ended up here as this bar was still serving food after 10pm. The food was nothing special but was ok. The beer selection was subpar with almost no regional beers available. The waiter was friendly. There was karaoke going on in another room. They have an outdoor patio.

I was not as impressed with the cottage because on this particular day our food took a very very long time to come, which is hard for us because we have small kids and theyre hard to keep happy for a long time. But I have a feeling this was an anomaly because the cottage is well loved by many in crystal lake!

Pizza definitely not what we usually experience. Pizza was not hot, the toppings were all along the edges, with some areas with nothing. Flavor was not even the same. Almost over charged by $60. Will go back, we like this place and hoping only a one time screw up.

The best part about this place is the fact that every single thing Ive tried is amazing. Wings, pizza, and burgers are phenomenal. Definitely try the garlic parm wings (Thursday for .49 cent) and the buffalo chicken pizza. Cant say enough good things.

We were going to sit outside on the patio on a cloudy day. At the last second my bride decided she would rather sit inside. The hostess scooped us up and saved the day and brought us inside where it was safe. Excellent service by pigtails.

cozy homey type of bar. Love the new outdoor bar and patio. Free popcorn and peanuts. Decent drink selection. Multiple seating areas with two bars inside in addition to patio bar. Decent food selection. It is indeed a gathering place

The food is so-so at best,my wife had something called the cottage pie which can best be described as awful.On the bright side the service was good as was the chili.Will we go back,no.Theres to many good restaurants in Crystal Lake.

Very interesting find. Rustic feel to the decor, nice craft beer selection. I came into town for a couple weeks for work, and was pleasantly surprised when we came in; I can see myself spending some time here.

The best local bar in all of crystal lake! Food is always awesome and the atmosphere is perfect for me. Super local, peanut shells on the floor kinda place.... amazing. Daily specials are fantastic as well.

First time there last night and will be my last. Had buffalo chicken wrap there and now regretting it, i got food poison from it. Cant stop coming out both ends. Please stay away from there chicken there!!!!

BBQ pizza is wonderful. The outdoor patio is great in the summer and just a great place to chill. Inside is more like a bar but the food is wonderful.
