How can I write if I cannot see what i am writing. The chef, the owner and the food is not very Japanese about this restaurant. The sushi fish was fresh, but the rice is not seasoned correctly. I ordered tempura and it was ok, but not very Japanese. You dont want to see tempura piled up on a round western style plate, and the tempura batter was too heavy, not crunchy. The cook need to toss some ice cubes into the tempura batter and the temperature has to be just right. Tempura dipping sauce had no oroshi-daikon which is grated Japanese radish nor grated fresh ginger in it. The cooking staff need to go to a real Japanese restaurant like Renga Tei in Linclonwood to taste the food and try to learn how to cook and present the proper Japnese food. The servers and the manager are all very friendly and the place is clean. It has been a while since I ate here last and it is sadly nothing like what it used to be.

I visited their new location just this past weekend. As a loyal patron to their last location, I have to say I am disappointed. The quality of food and service have decreased as the price of the food has increased. I used to love the cozy and genuine feel to the last place, and was saddened to be greeted by a new cold, and unwelcoming decor. Some of the old staffers we love are still there, unfortunately we didnt get any of them as our server. The new chef is good, but I will definitely be looking for a new sushi place. If youre all for overpriced portions and a very Americanized "Japanese" dining experience, then by all means, enjoy. I, however, will not be returning.

Kyoto was not the best sushi Ive had. That award stays with Sushi House in Oak Park. But it was really good sushi and I would recommend it if you are in the area and in the mood for sushi. Love the BYOB - they only charged $5 corking for the two bottles. The waitresses were all very friendly and the prices were reasonable. There were several rolls available for under $6. ...The Dynamite roll sounds better then it was...but the spicy Tuna was really good.....mmmm I want more sushi! It was dead when we got there on Sat at 6 but by around 7 most of the tables were filling up.

The food is amazing. The menu is not just sushi but a wide variety of sea food options and steak and chicken. I had the chicken teriyaki with burned carrots as a side dish. It was divine. I also loved the staff. Very helpful, considerate and nice! Will go there again. Note the place is on the expensive side. We paid 90 dollars for an appetizer, two entrees and 2 side dishes. You get what you paid for though. Great value.

Great new location and parking isnt too bad. I made it a point to make it to their old location and was there on their 1st week at the new location. Its bigger, better and a lot more room. This place gets pretty busy... What can I say? Steak... Sushi... How can they go wrong lol. Its making me hungry just typing this review. Thanks again for taking such good care of us guys. Will be back soon.

I may have already reviewed this restaurant in the past with a favorable rating, but now that the twins are gone, it just isnt good. Not worth coming here any more in my opinion. Sorry Kyoto, but Ive eaten from your restaurant for the last time. I had takeout today and every roll I ordered was sub par, and fishy.

Easily my favorite sushi spot in this entire city! If you havent been here, you need to come. The more the merrier too! BYOB, casual, friendly staff, awesome chefs, super delicious food and they take reservations. What is there not to like about this place? It doesnt cost an arm and a leg either!

Two words. Creamy. Its hands down the best Maki roll that I have had in the city. This avocado wrapped shrimp tempura is a little piece of heaven. That coupled with the fact that it is BYOB joint, its just amazing! I love how low key this place is too. The staff is always so nice!

This is a small sushi place on Lincoln ave. It is a downstairs BYOB with great sushi. I wasnt thrilled the first time I went, but the more Ive gone, the more its grown on me. Their manager is a great guy and always tries to accommodate your party. The spicy boat is what Id recommend.

Good rolls. Friendly service. Didnt know it was bring-your-own-bottle until we got there, but that was ok. The sushi came on a wooden boat with working rudder! Very cool! Got to sit right away, and the wait for the rolls was pretty typical for a busy night at any sushi place.

This was hands-down the best sushi Ive ever had. The fish is very fresh and the staff are very friendly. I would recommend calling ahead about the wait or making a reservation because it can get very busy. Also, definitely check out the snowball appetizer, its amazing!

Kyoto is one my favorite sushi spots in Chicago!! You can always guarantee a table and friendly service. Some of my all time favorites include the fireball maki, crunch salmon maki and the spicy tuna tataki maki, however you cant go wrong with anything at Kyoto.

I only visited once, but the food here is very good. The restaurant has been remodeled recently and is a nice space to eat in. This restaurant is also BYOB, or it was when I was there. I look forward to returning.

best sushi, no other sushi place even comes close. We keep coming back and every time we are convinced no other sushi place comes close to quality of Kyoto sushi. make sure you get creamy roll and snowball :)

If you ever were queasy about sushi before, come here and restore your faith in how good it can be! Fresh, imaginative, and closely family-run. Truly a great find. Easy parking in back lot, too!

Nice atmosphere. Great place to go for a date. Ive had the steak which was cooked medium and was delicious. Ive also had the duck which was meh. If you like sushi I recommend trying thier boats.

The sushi here is excellent! It is creamy goodness in your mouth, and pretty authentic for their sashimi as well. However, the price might be a little high so be careful of what you order here.

We were visiting Chicago and loved the food so much, we ate there twice while in town. Attention to detail along with personal touch to old favorites made it a special meal. 100% recommend!

Good food byob and it was pretty dark and slow the day I went. Kind of hard to see bc apt. Right next to this place. Canopy outdoor looks like a cool place, once it gets warmer.

One of my favorite sushi spots in the city. Love that its BYOB and the below-ground ambiance is really fun. Low priced food without the budget-feeling atmosphere.

You get real Japanese food here! They are the only sushi restaurant that has Japanese food prepared by Japanese staff. And guess what, the end product is awsome.
