Not really sure who would consider this place a "hidden gem" as it certainly is not. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and luckily (so we thought) it wasnt busy so getting a table was easy. The service was terrible, especially considering the fact that there were only a few tables to be served. It took an extremely long time for our server to come to take our orders. Before we got our food, a table near us walked out due to the poor service, and another table sent food back more than once as they kept bringing the wrong item. This definitely made us all a bit nervous. After a very long wait for simple dishes, our food finally came out, and it was definitely not worth the wait. I understand why this place was so empty. Horrible service and food that was completely underwhelming make for a bad combo. Definitely avoid.

Fresh and I mean fresh ingredients. Markethouse has their own garden on the 6th floor. Ive been here a few times for lunch. They have a great lunch special. Its a sandwich and soup combo for $9! They have a pretty extensive menu for lunch. One of my favorite dishes is the gourmet mac-n-cheese. I know it sounds simple but oh man, its soooo delicious. And they guarantee that they will get you in and out in 30 minutes for those that need to get back to work. The service is always great and theres usually no wait for lunch. I was fortunate enough to attend 2 cooking demonstrations by their executive chef, Scott Walton. Hes so down to earth and friendly. He even emailed me his recipe for the mac-n-cheese but Im sure mine wont turn out as good as his. I cant wait to go back and try their dinner.

Unfortunately I have to give this place 1 star because we didnt even get in... We showed up at 10:09 am for breakfast but the doors were locked. There were plenty of people eating inside but there were no signs saying closed, no hours posted, and when I made eye contact with a staff member they simply looked away. When I finally circled around to the Double Tree Hotel entrance and asked a front desk attendant if they were open, he stated that they close at 10am, with more than mild annoyance on his face. With Google posting your hours being 6am-2pm I suggest a simple sign, as well as a correction on Google. To remedy the situation my wife and I had a wonderful breakfast, with a friendly staff across the street at West Egg Cafe.

Stayed at the adjoining hotel. Came down for dinner. Menu was rather small and nothing really jumped out, so I thought Id go with the fish and chips which was actually 4 fish sticks....complete with bones, some a anemic fries which could be bested by McDonalds and a half hearted cup of bland coleslaw. Came down for breakfast and found it similarly uninspiring. Hotel provides a free continental, but compared to other Doubletree hotels, it fell woefully short, so I upgraded to the cooked breakfast which was also a disappointment with the exception of the crepes which were good, but not $10 good. Wont be back and probably wont bother with the attached hotel based on the weakness of their food offerings.

Wait staff was very friendly to my face or morning breakfast. Fresh fruit was amazing, pastry bar was great, warm foods ( pancakes, bacon, eggs, etc) tasted like it was frozen foods not fresh. No flavor. I was the only one eating there right away, the men proceeded to talk in Spanish amongst them selves when they were at the welcome desk about me, (Ive taken many Spanish classes and am fluent). They said very hurtful things. Not professional at all. Got up and left, wont need to visit here again.

This is the worst breakfast Ive ever had, AND we had hotel vouchers to pay for most of it. Egg whites were still raw when I got my plate, so I sent back. Came back still raw. Bacon burnt to a crisp and turned into ashes in your mouth. Neither of us could even finish the bacon (never thought Id say that!) potatoes still crunchy, uncooked, unseasoned, tasted like margarine. Served automatically coffee and juice as soon as we sat down and then charged $3 for each at the end. Awful.

Chef Scott and Markethouse are winners. This hidden Chicago gem is affordable and 5 star caliber. I enjoy a quick lunch stop for their executive lunch for $9! In and out in 30 min. Service was solid. Will bring friends 4 dinner and drinks! Home run. Oh yeah, I think the Chicago Sun-Times just rated them really well. Rumor has it 3 of 4 stars. Awesome, Chef Scott.

We entered at 4:15pm, when only the bar was functioning. Was offered menus then served at a lounge table with wife & child. Service was great! The food was very good. Reuben, Chi-town steak sandwich, chicken strips. All was tasty. Nothing seemed like it came from a freezer. Attentive bartender. Free cookies for the kid.

Bad food, High prices. I went there for breakfast with my spouse and we paid $47 for 1 omlette, one waffle with a sorry looking dollop of crusty berries on top, and two tiny glasses of orange juice. Even though I live almost next door I have unpleasant memories walking by this place

Some of the best service I have ever had. The waitress was attentive, but what blew me away, was the fact that the manager personally went out in the rain and walked 2 blocks to make sure that my car was legally parked. The food was very good, with a changing menu we will be back.

3/4 of the Restaurant was empty but we had to wait 25mn to get the menu and another 45mn to get the food. Food was below average, not worthy of the price or downtown Chicago. Portions are small. Very limited diner menu. Staff look unhappy.

This is an amazing spot to go for dinner. They have excellent rainbow trout and the seven years aged cheddar macaroni is delicious. The atmosphere is very quiet and low-light. The servers are super helpful and nice as well.

My wife and I duck in here for the light and crispy buffalo wings on a busy weekend night when youve found yourself in Streeterville. After drinks. Without a reservation.

Overpriced. I visited here with an entertainment book coupon and still paid $24 for a meagre breakfast for 2. There is a reason the place is almost always empty.

Went there for lunch recently. Great place, nice atmosphere and a pretty impressive selection of locally grown ingredients.
