While vacationing in Chicago, I wanted to find a good local coffee joint that roasts their own beans, as theyre usually the most mindful about quality. Utilizing my Google-Fu and checking out reviews on multiple places, I settled on HERO for my first foray into Chicago coffee. The space is cozy and comfortable for enjoying a cup of coffee. Tables are kind of small, and there were no couches our lounge chairs typically found in a coffee bar, but I was still able to get comfortable for a good read. The staff was most friendly and helpful about recommending a good pour over. I ordered a 12oz, but am pretty sure I received a 16, and it was delicious to the last drop. I had to check out their espresso as well, and was pleasantly greeted by a wonderful double shot of caffeinated goodness. My only complaint was the music... I had nothing against the music itself being played, but it was a bit loud, but perhaps Im just getting a little too old!

I thought the prices may have been a bit high compared to Starbucks. Starbucks does better than average in being a socially responsible employer, but the CEO Howard Schiltz took home about 150 million last year, so they still could and should do more for their employees. So, while the prices here at Hero *might* be slightly higher than the standard of Starbucks, I found the coffee to be better, and the employees looked happy with their job. It was a cozy environment, employees and customers all were very friendly and easy to chat with. Id be happy to return here for another delicious cup of coffee and support my local independent coffee shop!

I went with my brother since the shop seemed really cool from the street, the food we ordered (Manhattan breakfast sandwich) was fenominal, and the coffee was top notch! It did take about 15 minutes for us to get our food, but not due to the baristas being behind, but because 3 separate customers took other peoples order. When the bearista realized we were still waiting and someone had taken our orders he personally apologized and made our sandwiches again, and when we got out food he even offered to refill our coffees for free! Thats service you dont get at a lot of shops. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food and great coffee!

This is a great nook of an artisan coffee roaster. They serve mindful food and offer quality, small-batch roasted beans. I only give four stars because the shot quality has varied for me from trip to trip; sometimes its great, sometimes they dont have it dialed in right and it gets somewhat over-extracted. Unless youre a curious coffee snob, dont let this deter you--even if you are, the place has strong potential and I encourage you to try it out. The location is delightfully urban, and the staff never fails to be personable and welcoming. Im fairly confident that theyll earn five stars after a couple more months.

Im in town for the weekend and my friends and I wanted a place we could get a cup of coffee and a bite to eat in the morning. This place rocked. The pour over coffee was delicious, and the sandwich even better. I got the sandpiper and it exceeded my expectations because the veggies in it were so perfectly ripe and tasty. Definitely made with love, so tasty. And the staff was super friendly. We got a spot at the bar and savored the coffee that they grind and brew to order for every cup. Definitely recommend if youre looking to get a great cup of coffee and a delicious breakfast.

I am absolutely in love with HERO Coffee Bar. The staff here is just so nice and sweet. They are super friendly. I went on a Friday around 3 pm so it wasnt busy at all but the staff was still super alert and were ready to help me. I ordered an almond milk latte and let me tell you, it was a quality latte and definitely worth the money! Also, if you are looking for a nice place to study, this place is definitely the place to go. Their playlist is on point and the set up of the shop is just so comfortable. They also have fresh baked goods which definitely beats any Starbucks!

I always come here for the cucumber iced latte b/c its something totally different and with tons of potential to be a really refreshing beverage...yet everytime I get the cucumber latte I have to ask for more cucumber juice in order to get the drink where I want it to be. So im divided about what to do with this one...On the one hand I think everyone should have one but on the other, if youre not insistent on extra cucumber, then youll just be left less than impressed.

Literally some of the best coffee I have ever had in my life. I had their bourbon barrel aged coffee and it was absolutely phenomenal. The location is tiny and I had to push past a bunch of people to get to the counter... but it is totally worth is. Its also close to the Meli Cafe which is one of the best breakfast places Ive gone to in Chicago.

This is a great stop for coffee in the loop with its respectable coffee/espresso accompanied by a good atmosphere for studying or relaxing. My only let down is the lack of single origin coffees. They only have light, medium, and dark offerings along with a sweet espresso. Dont let that stop you from grabbing a latte or medium roast coffee though!

This place is amazing. Found it on the spot and went there for a latte and a cookie on an afternoon break. I know lots of indie coffees and the freshness of the coffee was impressive. The cookie was still hot and goooood! this is a must if you come to Chicago and you love good coffee!

One of my favorite coffee spots in the loop. Ive a freelancer so Ive been lucky on a few occasions to find it empty (I love sitting by the window!) but I think its getting pretty popular now since its usually full. Small but cosy. Theres a divvy station a block away which is great too!

Great service. The servers were extremely kind, engaging, and quick. The management was equally kind and welcoming. The coffee is great, and its a really nice spot to sit and relax for a bit. Would absolutely recommend, and will try to return on my next visit to Chicago.

Spent $12 on coffee and a sandwich called the Albie, which the menu described as "grilled tuna and provolone." It was a cold tuna salad sandwich with no cheese (until I asked for it). Not sure what thats about. Friendly staff, though, and the coffee was good.

Great local coffee and sandwiches (breakfast and lunch), try one of the daily roasts or a lavender latte and smooth criminal. Good music playlists. Only negatives are wait can be long on the food sometimes, and patio doesnt have the nicest atmosphere.

Delicious coffee roasted locally. I always stop here when Im in Chicago and try one of their seasonal lattes. When Ive exhausted trying their seasonal concoctions I opt for my go to mix of lavender and vanilla aka fruit loop flavor.

I was shocked at how delicious their sandwiches were. I ordered the Red Line - which has red apple inside. What a great choice. Coffee was on point too. This is a small space but highly recommend checking it out.

Really tasty coffee. Had a meeting here on a Saturday afternoon. Great atmosphere without being too loud. Staff are very friendly and the food is great, too. Also great that theyre open on a Sunday morning!
