Since Ive moved to the neighborhood, filter has been one of my go-to coffee shops, but honestly I dont go for the coffee... The larger than usual café is filled with your grandmas old, slightly musty couches, well-warn side tables, and clunky lamps. The art on the walls is typically for sale and it changes periodically. Usually, its packed with Mac toting, plaid loving hipsters, but Ive never felt out of place as a normal (jeans and a t-shirt, no converse) type of person. I would give the food 3.5 stars, drip coffee 1 (its like drinking diesel!), the other drink options a 4 (I do like their juices, iced-coffee, and espresso drinks), and the atmosphere a 5. If you can, go during the week and at odd hours on the weekend. Otherwise you wont find a seat. Also, its cash or LevelUp only. Ive hopped on the LevelUp band wagon, so I dont mind.

Good coffee, friendly staff, and knowledgeable baristas. Coffee drinks up to a medium have two shots regardless of size and milk, which i think is standard good practice, and my medium latte still tasted decently strong, at least compared to some recent lattes. Their chai is made with a mix out of a big jug, so I wont be coming here for chai. I didnt try the food. The space is amazing for working. Its gigantic and very comfortable with various types of seating and table arrangements. The lighting is warm. Theres artwork all over, including on the ceiling. The wifi works. The bathrooms are singles but have couches--not really something Ill evaluate, just an observation. Theyre open pretty late most nights. They have a kitchen and do hot foods, although, as I said, I havent tried them.

Ok, so I was a fan of the old Filter and Im definitely a fan of the new Filter too. Theyve got a good selection of tea, and good coffee. I usually go here on weekday afternoons and Sunday mornings for coffee, brunch, and some study time. The Full Monty is always a delicious choice for brunch, and the best part is that they were able to accommodate me being vegetarian by replacing the sausage with tofu (major points in my view). Also, never forget to order the sweet potato fries! Cant decide between sweet potato or regular fries? Ask for "disco" fries (combo of both)! The art is wonderful, the eclectic music creates a nice vibe (its not blasting so loud that you cant even hear yourself think), and the people who work there are friendly for the most part.

I love this cafe, probably the coolest cafe in Chicago with a Hip twist to the decor and set up versus your more typical chain coffee shops. I Love the sweet potato fries, and they have great food even thought its a cafe. Though the food can be a little pricy (for a cafe), its good and I love the sweet potato fries. Free internet, cool seats and couches for more of a lounge type feel. In my opinion they close too early for a cafe and really wish they were open later. But if you like cafes and coffee... and yummy food, I would check this place out and bring a friend. Its also a geat place to get ome work done and listen to the cool tunes being played here. #hip #Chicago #cafe #coffee

My favorite coffee shop in the city, by far. I love grabbing a coffee or tea here with a bagel sandwich & getting some work done in their homey atmosphere. Free WiFi, friendly service, lots of space & many eclectic seating options. I like that you can either sit at a table, a couch or a funky recliner. Its brighter in the front and darker in the way back...so depending on your working style, its a good fit for most. Tip: Be sure to buy a few things throughout the day if youre planning on using their free WiFi for over 2 hours...its just the right thing to do.

Filter is the best coffee shop in town. If you want to get work done, this is definitely the place to be. Filter tends to be quiet enough for you to concentrate but also not feel uncomfortable if you want to have a conversation. The two drawbacks are that they only accept cash or LevelUp, and the internet service tends to be poor. If you have a smart phone, LevelUp is easy to download. The slow internet connection is a bigger issue. Hopefully theyll take care of that soon.

Yeah, I liked the older Filter on Milwaukee... It just didnt feel the same, but its not bad. Theres still a lot of open space, and theres a good vibe of people hanging out, working, studying... Not sure if there are open mics, which is one thing I liked so much about the older Filter, but you cant go back, can you? Anyways... A good spot to bring your laptop and get some work done, and be able to be out in public and not in your own apartment...

This is a great place to go for a study group, to do some work, or just have lunch and coffee. The food is outstanding, the coffee is always good, and there is a good amount of seating so it rotates even though a lot of people park for several hours. There are couches and a huge sunny window that makes the place feel like an old college Union hall. The wifi is a bit spotty sometimes, but I can usually get 4G service through most of the place.

Filter has a great environment; plenty of comfortable and homey seating, surprisingly delicious food, and nice staff! The place can easily get crowded, but is still a open and relaxing environment to talk, work, eat, or get coffee. I go there a lot at night when I have to work. There are never more than a handful of people after 7pm or later so it can be a perfect place to knock out a couple hours of reading or work!

Filter has a great atmosphere, good coffee and tea, and decent food options. Their art displays are almost always interesting. They also play good music. Staff is usually overworked and on edge, but they tend to be very friendly. Busy place with few good seating options usually by mid afternoon. Would definitely recommend getting in early if you can. Also, a good place for studying.

The coffee and service were mediocre. I had to use my card for the transaction which cost me .50 extra cents. I later checked my account and realized that there was $10 stolen from me. The cashier ended up taking money from my account. Im a college kid. Theres no way I would afford spending $14 at a mediocre cafe. I would highly advise to use cash or just not go there at all.

Filter is my favorite cafe / coffee shop near downtown Chi. The ambiance is always great (rain or shine outside), decor unique and eclectic (although slightly old couches!), food fantastic for a coffee shop (although cash only). Great study spot, but also expect some small/medium size groups to take up some space and create a little noise. Definitely check this place out.

Outstanding place to network and get work done. There is a variety of fresh vegan (and other types of) food, along with fresh juices. The couches are cozy and the vibe is pleasant. Network, socialize, get work done--whatever! The atmosphere is conducive to whatever you are looking for. Take a break from Starbucks and check it out! You will not be disappointed!
