Delicious food. Massive portions. Hella cheap. Lackluster ambiance. The food here is consistent and it’s delicious. I come here for lunch often and pick from the same few things off the menu - dan dan noodles, twice cooked pork, chicken with scallions and chili, dry fried eggplant. The food is very consistent here and the spice hits the spot perfectly every single time. Consistency shouldn’t be a huge issue at many restaurants, but I’ve eaten at Tasty’s sister restaurant, Peter Cheng’s/Peter Chang’s/Tasty China II (is there general consensus on that restaurant’s name yet?), many times for lunch and it’s almost a game trying to figure out what the meal that’s forthcoming will look, and taste, like. I haven’t had a bad dish at Tasty, but I would recommend sticking with the sichuan dishes for the most part. Basically, when in doubt, just choose items with pepper icons next to them. Careful. It’s easy to overorder here. The dinner menu portions are large, and the lunch menu portions are even bigger. I don’t understand how they make any money when I pay ~$8 for a lunch (which comes with rice + soup) that can be split into two meals, but I’ll take it. Of course, some of the dinner items are ~$15, but the prices are still more than reasonable for the food you get. And to top it all off, there is a 10% discount here when paying with cash. 10% beats any rewards/cash back credit card I have these days, so I always take the option. The one thing Tasty does not have going for it is its ambiance (and why I’m not giving it 5 stars). It looks kind of old on the outside, and it’s not any different on the inside. I don’t know how to describe it, but there is a bit of an “old” smell that permeates the interior. It only bothers me for a quick split second upon entering, then I quickly adjust to it. Also, the years of diners’ patronage are seen in the tears of some booths’ seat cushions. Finally, another potential downside to the ambiance is the manager/owner(?) lady barking orders to her employees. Throughout my life, I’ve become accustomed to this Chinese way, but some diners might find it a little unsettling. I think it’s great and adds a little character. At least she’s not (usually) berating her employees. She’s just trying to keep Tasty running smoothly and isn’t afraid to do so in the dining room. If you want sichuan food with ambiance, go to Peter Cheng’s. If you want equally good (and usually better), cheaper food and don’t need to hear stereotypical Chinese music while dining in house-looking structure, go to Tasty China.

Im guessing the higher starred reviews are out numbering the low star reviews, but I am a low star reviewer for this place. As far as ordering went, the woman who took my order over the phone was actually polite. I ordered the sesame chicken entree (Btw, their entrees only come with rice. Most other places have an eggroll & soup included - this is my first time coming across this) and 2 orders of egg rolls.**NOTE: One order of egg rolls comes with 3 rolls - I wish I knew that, otherwise I would have only ordered one versus two.** My boyfriend ordered chicken lo mein. The sesame chicken was inedible to me. I ate a few pieces but eventually just stopped knowing I didnt have to force myself to eat it. At first I didnt want to waste it, knowing I spent $30 for everything. After about the 5th piece of chicken I didnt care anymore if I was wasting money. The chicken was fried way too long making it WAY too hard to chew or even enjoy. And its probably not uncommon, but definitely is not common to me - the sesame chicken sauce was RED. I guess the rice was okay, it was more bearable than the chicken. My boyfriends lo mein on the other hand was more bearable - usually you cannot go wrong with lo mein. Too much money spent on such bad food.

Bad service, bad food... I called to place a order to go. The woman who took my order first took my phone number then proceeded to ignore me a speak to what sounded like another employee. When her attention finally came back to talking to me, I told her I wanted orange chicken with fried rice and sesame chicken with steam rice. She them gave me a total, I said thank you and we hung up. I show up to pick up my order about 30 mins later. I walked in and told them I had an order I called in to pick up. Luckily I was the only one with an order cause they never asked for a name. Instead they asked what I ordered. I paid for my order and checked my order when I went out to my vehicle only to find they missed my order of fried rice. I walked back in to get my missing rice. The same woman walked into the back and brought out another to go box of rice. I head out to the vehicle to leave again but think to check the new box of rice, only to find its steamed not fried. So I go back in to make an exchange and then went home. However, when I returned home both the fried rice and the steamed rice were mushy and both servings of chicken where tough and chewy.

Incredible Szechuan chinese food. Originally opened around 10 years ago with chef Peter Chang at the helm. He has come and gone and come and gone. Now he serves basically the same items in multiple restaurants around DC and Virginia that have great reviews. The quality has wavered over the years, but its never been anything but the best for me. They have redone their menu in the past couple years. There is now a chefs specialties list, make sure to eat off that list. Dont get the sugary, breaded stuff, its not what they are known for. Get the basil chicken, the bamboo fish, the sliced fish and sour cabbage soup, the dried fried eggplant, dan dan noodles, the shan city shrimp, the chicken with scallions. Its going to be spicy though! The service here can be bad sometimes, they send their best staff down to the Ponce City Market location, Jia Atlanta, but be patient, the food is always worth it. Ive never known anyone to get sick off of this food, and i have been here well over 100 times. I can talk for hours about this place, still my favorite restaurant in metro Atlanta for many years.

DO NOT EAT HERE!!! My sister and I have ordered from Tasty China four or five times and every time has been a disaster. They have never gotten an order right once. You cannot understand them when you order by phone, and they cant calculate your total because they, "dont remember". My meals havent matched the online menus prices. They over charge on simple orders or give you beef instead of chicken to increase the price. Thats usually normal restaurant scam stuff that usually isnt a big deal (Im a college student and Im not picky); however, the reason Im writing this review is because the last and final time I ordered from Tasty China I ordered Kung Pao chicken. This meat WAS NOT chicken. It had a rubbery texture, flaked like seafood, and had a fishy taste to it. When I went to return it for chicken they informed me, "This isnt fish its a special kind of chicken" (What does that even mean?!?!). They didnt give me a refund or replace it with a new batch of real chicken. It was absolutely disgusting..PLEASE take my word and save yourself! I just hope I wasnt eating dog...
