My fiancees family came to Jax to spend Thanksgiving with us and we decided to take them to St. Augustine. We decided to try the White Lion as it was on the main road and looked as though it had a pleasant atmosphere. After being served an $8 dollar app. that looked like a small plate off left overs we asked for lemon for my future-mother-in-laws crab cakes and was told that they did not carry lemons anymore and that limes were available because they were cheaper. The fish was flavorless and obviously not fresh (but frozen) and it took our waitress 20 minutes after we finished eating to bring our check. The icing on the bitter cake was that after the unsolicited comment that the refills were free (we dont question price when we eat) the check came back charging for all refills! ($2.50 each I might add) When asked about this the waitress simply said that there was a new policy (must have taken place in the 5 minutes since her comment). Needless to say another 20 minute wait took place in waiting for her to take our card and process it so we had to seek out the hostess to do it for us. Food was less than sub-par and service was abominable.

Wow! This particular instance I had been out with some friends in St. Augustine bar hopping. Obviously I had been getting service at other bars because I had been drinking. I enter the white lion and stand at the bar to order a drink. Watching the bartender serve all of his friends quickly began to frustrate me. I finally slammed my debit card on the bar to get attention. I was then asked if I did that and I said,"yes." While I was being escorted out I explained that Ill go somewhere where I can get service and never come back here again. The bouncer told me that was a good Idea. Ive never been treated like this in a bar. My other friends that met up with me shortly after I was kicked out told me of a similar experience. I wont be going back to the white lion again. I went to the no name/fort bar and received a drink within seconds of walking in. Sorry white lion, Ill have to put out some word of mouth advertising about my experience there.

Great location. Went in for the happy hour all day on Tuesday. Wings were ok. I ordered garlic parm, expecting a dry rub. I guess the parm was a dry rub with slices of garlic all around. It was ok, not very flavorful. It didnt seem to be that busy but we were outside unaware if there were tables inside. Once leaving we walked through the restaurant , empty. It took 20 minutes for two orders of wings and an order of fries. Fries take 3 minutes in fryer and wings about 5 with another minute to toss sauce. Waited awhile after finished, another server came to check on us and we asked for the check. She made a point to mention the happy hour discounted price and even wrote how much "we saved". I get it they dont want to get happy hour tips but felt as if it was unprofessional. I knew it was happy hour when we came in, please dont prejudge how people will tip.

We enjoyed the White Lions food and service many years ago. Last week we ate there and we werent as impressed. The service was slow. The wait staff acted indifferent to us. The food was very dry. My husband is a chef, and left the cook a note to please taste the food before sending it out. We couldnt finish our food because it made us feel sick. My child didnt even eat her fries and cheeseburger, and shes a fries and cheese burger fiend! Our waitress spent most of her time talking to a friend at the bar. We waited several minutes after eating to pay for our food. Then, later we discovered that they added an eight dollar tip to our bill. Weve called our bank to dispute that. The food and the service were not worth the thirty dollars that we paid for the dry, warmed over food, with wilted lettuce and bruised lemon wedges on the side.

My past two visits here were met with disappointment. Service was way slower than it should have been and prices were really too high. Most of the staff that we did see seemed only willing to associate with patrons at the bar. I only give it three stars instead of two because they do have an absolutely fabulous dessert called the "chocolate thing" that is really out of this world. Our waitress gave us a complimentary one to make up for the bad service. I go to St. Augustine frequently and will give this place another chance in a few months and see if service improves any. White Lion, youve lost another star and possibly another customer. My girlfriend and I made a trip down to St. Augustine a couple weekends ago with the sole intend of enjoying your "chocolate thing". Come to find out, youve removed it from your menu. Why?!!

Sadly we must take one star to comment ! We been there to have a beer and lunch outside, the place was empty, we tryed to get a sunny place in the corner of the place but a watress told us that we will be at a table elsewhere for the watress assigned to us can serve us! Ok no problem, the watress show and ask what we want. We ask 4 beers and she ask for ID. No problem again we are all in age of drinking (40 to 50!) So we gave our Canadian ID and the gilr told us that she cant technicaly serve us beer without a valid US ID! Well we left the place to go elsewhere where Canadian can have a beer!!! As we left, other peoples where sitting at the spot we wanted first

I was there Mother’s Day Weekend with 10 people; there was a performer there by the name of Derryck Lawrence on their patio. I would like to say “That Man Can Sing" What a great entertainer. It was the best weekend we have had in a long time. The best part about him is that he never took a break! He stood the whole time for 4 hour and smiled and sung his heart out. "The White Lion is very lucky to have Derryck Lawrence and I will make sure that everyone I come in contact with know that they can go to the White Lion Bar ON Fridays from 4-8 for THE BEST HAPPY HOUR IN ST AUGUSTINE !!

Went there 7/22/13 for a quick bite to eat before heading back to the B&B my boyfriend and I were staying at. He ordered lemonade and it tasted like it came from a dry mix. We ordered loaded fries and they were absolutely terrible. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and it was horrible. I probably ate half of it just so I wouldnt be hungry later. My boyfriend ordered a French dip which he said had no flavor at all. Really was hoping for a good meal on our first night in town. Should have left when we saw how empty it was on the inside and all the workers hanging out at the bar.

Service was super slow. My wife and I were ignored when we walked in and waited quite a while to be asked if we were helped yet. Took forever to get our food. The water the waitress offered my wife never actually made it to the table. I had the mac & cheese burger which was bland, the mac & cheese obviously microwaved. The wings my wife ordered, Chipotle Citrus were the only reason this place didnt get 1 star. They were very good when they finally made it to the table. So, if you go, be prepared for hit or miss food and a long wait time for your food AND to pay your bill.
