We got the family together for Mother’s Day at Catches Waterfront Grille in Port Richey. What an AWFUL experience! We walked in and sat down. The place was hot, no menus were offered. When we asked, the hostess said, “Oh, it’s all buffet today.” When the waiter bothered to get around to us, he took our beverage orders. When we found the buffet, we saw the food was very low quality and had been sitting in chafing dishes for a VERY long time. The second pass, the staff changed the buffet with others items of even lesser quality. The food was not FRESH, it looked even older than the food they replaced. Not wanting to make a scene, we suffered through it, sweating all the way. The a/c had to be broken. I was presented with a HUGE bill. Our party of 6 was charged $23.95 times 5 people and a child’s price of $8.95. I was stunned. Only 3 in our party actually ate the buffet. My eldest daughter had a salad and was charged $23.95. My middle daughter ate less than a child-sized portion and was charged $23.95. My youngest had a muffin and a waffle and was charged $8.95. They tacked on a 20% gratuity for the waiter. Why? We got our OWN food! We were shocked at the $165.00 bill. The following day we complained to the general manager who said he would refund our credit charge. He claimed that because he had only been the manager for 5 weeks, he didn’t know how to do a charge-back, so he would mail us an $85 refund check. We were notified that the refund was on it’s way. We were later notified that he was not allowed to send us a refund. The “accounting office” had declined the request. Instead, they sent us a gift card. Yeah, like we want to have another terrible experience in that awful restaurant. Steer clear of this place. The food is lousy, the service is lousy, the management is lousy, the location is lousy, and the prices are lousy. Catches Waterfront Grille is a dreadful place to hold a family gathering, unless you want it ruined.

I WONT GO BACK! The Good: Had reservations and was seated promptly. Ambiance was nice sitting on an elevated deck overlooking the river. Our server was great. Sadly that was all that was good about it. THE BAD: I ordered grilled chicken alfredo without any vegetables in it. When my food arrived it was well plated and looked nice but still had sun dried tomatoes in it so I asked my server to have it re-made to the way I ordered it. She was apologetic and said it was her fault because she did ask the kitchen to hold the peppers and mushrooms but forgot they put tomatoes in as well. She said she would take care of it and have a new order prepared. After about 15 minutes or so a runner brought out what I thought would be a new dinner. I WAS WRONG - the cooks tried picking out the tomatoes from the original plate, mixed it all together and sent it back out without even reheating it. I called the server back over and showed her what they had sent back out and asked to speak to the manager. It was not the fact that my original order got messed up that upset me as it happens from time to time, I get that. What ticked me off was the fact that the kitchen supervisor felt it would be OK to just pick out as many tomatoes as they could and send the original order back out. The server came back and said she had taken the entree off my bill but said that manager was too busy to speak to me about the issue. At that point I knew my concerns would fall on deaf ears anyways. I mean what manager refuses to address a problem like that. For me it wasnt the issue of getting the entree taken off my bill. I didnt eat it anyway so its not like I got something for free. It was the issue that some genius decided to pick through my food and then expected me to eat it. And the so called "manager" couldnt be bothered with allowing me to voice my concerns. And that was my biggest disappointment ... Hope you all have better luck than I did. Youre going to need it!

My family and I visited Catches Waterfront Grille on Jan 1, 2015 for our sons wedding rehearsal dinner. I cannot say enough positive things about the staff, management, food and atmosphere that was at this restaurant. The food was some of the best I have ever had, and many people in our group who live in Fl and had eaten at several waterfront restaurants agreed. We were from out of State, and had found Catches online. Their manager (Rick) was fantastic about responding to all my emails and personally calling me to ask me questions and confirm information. He made sure details were being taken care of and recommended a fabulous bakery to have the cake made at. The room that was reserved for us was spacious and beautifully set up for what we needed. They accommodated all of our requests and even did little extras like having another small table set up for additional people at the Head Table. The two wonderful gals who were our waitresses were so friendly and professional. We were running about 30 minutes late to the dinner, and when we arrived they were calm and reassured us it was no problem. They took care of everyone immediately getting drink orders and bringing in the food. They were not hovering over everyone all evening, but if we needed anything they were there and happy to help in any way. Anyone I spoke with that evening was so polite and professional in their tone and behavior. It was difficult to try and set this up from so far away, but Rick and the whole staff made it a wonderful experience that everyone at the dinner has been talking about since. My only regret is that we dont live in Fl to visit this wonderful restaurant anytime soon. If we are ever back, well be sure to stop by. Well worth the stop for anyone wanting fantastic food and still looking for friendly customer service.

When I first moved to NPR in 2005, every time I went to Catches it was great, but the last few times Ive been there, Ive been very disappointed. My family just came back from the Easter Brunch and we feel as if weve been ripped off. When I called for a reservation (Easter morning) I was told there was limited availability, but that they could "squeeze me in." When my party of four arrived, the majority of tables were empty! WHY IS THE MANAGEMENT TELLING THE STAFF TO LIE?? At that point, we should have turned around and left. We tried the buffet. The wait people were very friendly, but why did they have a kid at the omelet station who couldnt make a decent omelet? It was dry, flat and he put the cheese on the outside! What was he thinking? I ended up with a flat, dry egg mass with hard, cold cheese on top! There was a limited amount of bread--no rye and nothing unique. The ONLY bagels were mini, plain bagels that were stale. The other food items were good, but much of it was cold. To top if off, the coffee/OJ was not included in the $30pp price and they added a 16% gratuity to the check for a party of four!! Please remind me what the waitress did to receive such a generous tip! The advertisement for this buffet does not mention that a 16% gratuity will be added. I have traveled the world and have eaten in some of the best restaurants. I am not expecting that in NPR--but I expect the owners of restaurants to check out their competition to see how they compare. The view and facilities here are too beautiful to be wasted on management that just doesnt care and its a shame we have to travel out of Pasco to get a pleasant dining experience. PLEASE someone take over this place and make it the restaurant it could be.
