WORST restaurant experience probably I have ever had! So tonite (yes, tonite...ON my birthday I am sitting down to write this review b/c of how upset I am...) We see everyone else around us getting bread baskets, which we NEVER got, in addition we had been sitting with empty drink glasses for about 5 minutes. Finally, a young manager approaches us and asks if we got any bread, we replied no and also told him we had ordered drinks a while ago and they are just sitting at the bar. Our server was very preoccupied with the large party next to us and started to completely neglect me and my husband. So here comes the good part, our entress arrive, I had the Malibu Chicken which is a complete copy of Bonefishs Lily Chicken just not nearly as good. And,my husband had the steak salad. My husband is enjoying his salad, when all of sudden he gets a huge toothpick in his mouth!!!!! He couldve choked! Why on earth would there be a toothpick on the bottom of his salad? I immediatley call a manager over, this manager had the WORST customer service (he was a tall man, with glasses). He asked if we were enjoying our meals, I replied, "well, no my husband almost choked on this huge toothppick that was on the bottom of his salad". His respone, "Oh, well do you want us to make another salad?" Why would we want another salad, what is that going to change? When we said we were fine with the salad just upset about the toothpick, he simply replied, "Well, as long as youre enjoying your food" and walked away! It was very disappointing that a manager could be so oblivious and rude when this could have been something serious if my husband had bitten a piece of the toothpick off and was choking. He didnt offer to comp anything or even say he was sorry. What kind of customer service is this?? Needless to say it was not a good evening and I came home very disappointed in this restaurant. I truly dont understand all of the good reviews on here. People in Port Orange/Daytona REALLY have no idea what good food is. I will never return to this restaurant again and do not recommend to anyone who expects to have an enjoyable dining experience, nor will I ever return to their sister restaurant MONTERAY GRILL. Its pretty pathetic when a manager doesnt even care. I hope the owner reads this and sees that there management is ruining there company reputation.

This certainly isnt typical here but what happened last night was just over the top bad. 1. We called and used call ahead, told 40 mins. Stayed at house 10, takes 10 mins to get there, when we walked in told 10 to 15 minutes to get a table. 55 mins later we got called, we are a party of 2 mind you? 2. We sit down and promptly get ignored for 10 minutes, once server comes over we save time by ordering immediately. Appetizer of mozzarella mushrooms and shrimp tacos for entries. 3. 25 minutes later? our appetizer comes out and its placed on the table where it promptly hardens up because its BURNT!, to a crisp mind you. We say no thanks and just return it when he comes to check on us. 4. Now the kickers. I feel something on my leg, brush it away. Few minutes later I feel something on my foot, look down, its a roach. Ok, its Florida, things like that happen I suppose. Server picks it up and takes it away. Manager comes over, apologies and comps meal, again I realize in Florida those things happen, not upset over that at all. 5. Finally and I mean finally we get salads and the shrimp tacos, almost one hour and 10 minutes after we sat down. I noticed people who came in as we did and even after us with full 3 course meals finishing up?? We had 2 salads and both had shrimp Tacos, and over an hour getting that to the table? Server was just ok, basically did his job, didnt seem to care about why everything took so long, probably not his fault and I get that. Horrible nights experience at a place we love to go, obviously we will go back but this night was over the top bad for what is usually good service? Not sure what happened.

I only ordered the Caesar salad and clam chowder, which is a staple at restaurants like these, but was quickly disappointed. The Caesar salad was chopped in such strange proportions - some pieces of lettuce very small and others bigger than my mouth. The dressing was underwhelming, which is striking because it should complement the greens well in order to be a successful salad. There was a strong, sharp, & pungent garlicky taste that was added to the salad but was concentrated in many bites and missing in others. I found that part to be the most off putting because your palate cant really average out the flavors from all your bites for you. It was so strong in this case that even after a palate cleanser, the taste is still on my tongue. The clam chowder was basically potato soup with a few bits of clams. The consistency was grainy rather than smooth and creamy. You should be able to differentiate in your mouth the different ingredients in a clam chowder and it should leave a pleasant aroma on the tongue. This clam chowder was mostly bland and glob-like. I imagine for "fine-dining" you can do a lot better in the flavor profile department. Hesitant to try other items on the menu because I feel like it would be largely basic and prepared to an average standard. Well prepared food with ingredients that complement each other should leave a very pleasant & balanced taste with each bite. If you havent had food that has made you sigh "wow" after a bite, I highly recommend you keep trying new places and to stop settling for average. Its out there, I promise.

As much as we are locals to this restaurant, we have to create a review this time on this one bad experience. We came in to eat and had a young man named Donald to serve our food. He had a really great attitude, and was very polite. Though he did forget one of our entree, this was not the main complaint. We asked another server who was apparently named Tawny when Donald was busy at that moment that we are missing our Malibu Pasta. Her only reply was "oh really?" Before walking away without any further mentions, and not even tell our server about the missing dish. To make sure, we asked Donald for her name, and even asked if he was told by her about the dish, to where he wasnt even informed!! Like we said, we come here a lot and always had great service here, but not tonight unfortunately. The manager we spoke to named Steve seemed unusually defensive for Tawny, even questioning us "are you sure that she didnt tell him and he pretend he didnt hear it?". What kind of excuse of a manager would say something like that?! We are talking about her, not our server, as he was great. Im only writing this review not to shame the company, but to hopefully send this message out to our server in case whatever the manager "Steve" decided to throw at him in the near future. This is ridiculous and so was the management and her attitude. Other than that, we would be delighted to have Donald as our server again.
