Weve lived in College Park for 9 years but just went to Shakers for the first time this morning. The food was fine, but I will never go again because of their treatment of us as a family. We have two children under the age of 5 and they are well behaved...but the management and staff seemed to dislike having children in their restaurant! The first thing they did was roughly snatch all the creamers and jellies (which we would have liked to use) off of our table so that our kids couldnt touch them. The rushed us to order with such urgency that I almost left before even ordering. We were approached and URGED to place our order 6-7 times before wed even been there 5 minutes. I certainly appreciate quick service, but it was more like harassment. I couldnt even read the menu, I was being interrupted and asked to order so frequently. Once we ordered they stopped harassing us but when my husband needed a coffee refill or when I wanted one of the jellies back there was no one to be found. It was as if they just wanted us to hurry up and order, then get out. To top it off, we were treated very rudely at checkout. I will never set foot in there again. There are so many fantastic diners in our neighborhood (Christos and the College Park Cafe are both SO family friendly!) I dont see why Id ever go back to Shakers. I mentioned our experience to a friend with a family and she said shed heard the same from others, so apparently Shakers makes a practice of being rude to people with children.

I stopped into Shakers about noontime on Saturday to pick up some quarts of soup for a luncheon later that afternoon. Hungarian Beef Cabbage (a favorite of mine), Classic Chicken Noodle, and Shrimp Creamed Corn. I had never had the latter two soups but the three others with me at the luncheon had never had anything from Shakers. So, the soup tasting began… I of course started with the beef cabbage, but each of the others chose the creamed corn first. It received the thumbs-up good tasting from each of them and I do agree. (If you enjoy creamy soups, as I do, you would probably also like the asparagus and the split pea soups.) Next was the chicken noodle, which surprised everyone including myself because it was not the typical more plain tasting soup… It was swimming in delicious simmered-in herbs, which gave it a wonderful flavor while keeping along a traditional line. (I finished up the last bit of it today by added an egg to make a wonderful egg-drop soup.) Lastly, the three of them had the beef cabbage, which received a double thumbs-up (no surprise to me) because of its delicious spicy flavor… Im glad I bought an extra quart of that one :-) From 2 months ago-- Just had a delicious turkey sandwich asparagus soup and coleslaw. Very reasonably priced. Fast service. Waitresses are kind and the manager/owner is very personable. Its always packed at lunch because its always good :-)

MENU: 3 stars. The meal I had was just average. I got breakfast: eggs, bacon, and pancakes. I guess its pretty hard to mess those up but at the same time, its also not hard to make these items forgettable, and nothing really stood out at Shakers. Maybe next time Ill try something else on the menu. I will say that the prices seem more than reasonable. MOOD: 3 stars. The mood seems relatively low key. We went on Memorial Day and were seated immediately. Its sort of a quaint and cute place in a nice location, but nothing to rave or write home about. LOCATION: 4 stars. The location is right off of a major road and easy to get to. Not a tremendous amount of parking though, which can be a major problem if it gets busy. STAFF: 4 stars. Our waitress and kind and patient. Our party got there and immediately started having a discussion about something and our waitress came over very kindly every few minutes to see if we had decided on a meal. She wasnt pushy, didnt seem annoyed, and waited on us with a smile on her face. VERDICT: 4 stars for an overall decent experience. You can certainly find better breakfast spots that offer comparable food or at least more options. But this cute little diner will certainly do.

This restaurant is great. I eat lunch there probably once every couple weeks. Everything is homemade, fresh and just really delicious. I like that it is very intimate, easy to get on and off I-4. When you go, you can tell there are a lot of regulars. I love their quiche...and the grilled muffin...amazing. Salads are also great (but its hard to love a salad after having the grilled muffin and their homemade cookies...lets be honest here). My business partners always get the meat sandwiches which are piled high. Ideal Breakfast and Lunch Café in Orlando, FL. These guys just care about what they do...which is why I decided to write the review.

I havent been in Shakers in about two years.......they make a really good Spinach salad that I get to go. I didnt realize it until reading these reviews that the ownership had changed. I picked up a Spinach Salad about two months ago on a Friday afternoon for my dinner. I was fairly shocked when I opened the container and I had what looked to be a side salad with about 1/2 of the ingredients that I am used to. I cant remember exactly what it cost....$8 or $9........far too much for a side salad. I wont be returning.

Drove 15 minutes to get to this restaurant for a lousy breakfast. Coffee was terrible and served with creamers that need no refrigeration! Gross! Omelet was decent bacon mushroom and cheddar, potatoes were greasy and made with imitation butter! Rye toast had no flavor and also had imitation butter! Server raved about the biscuits and I found them dry and tasteless! Others at table had French toast which was ok nothing great! Restaurant had carpeting which always skeeves me out! Not returning !

I only take time to write a review when something is REALLY amazing or REALLY awful, and Shakers hits the spot every time. Ive never eaten inside the cafe, so I cant attest to the customer service or atmosphere, but I am borderline obsessed with their turkey reuben. Its one my favorite sandwiches of all time! I try not to eat it too often (Im sure its not the healthiest thing in the world) but I swear it tastes better each time I eat it. Good job, Shakers!

Weird. The food wasnt anything special. It was a stuffy atmosphere. The whole salt and pepper shaker decor was strange. In my mind I felt like I was wearing a light up sweater vest with matching light up earrings, a loud orange/coral lipstick and surrounded by at least 17 cats. It had that whole crazy old lady vibe. I wanted to like it but It just wouldnt happen for me. I left after lunch and was silent and to myself.

Check out the specials at this neighborhood cafe. I didnt neither to look at the menu. Very creative sandwiches and breakfast served anytime. I had what can best be described as eggs Benedict with salmon. The side of grits was expertly done. (Im picky about grits.) Ive heard the French onion soup is really good, too. Friendly service and plenty of wait staff. Im looking forward to going again soon.
