When you fill in an On The Border survey, youre asked what dish you "crave". In my case that is the "Citrus Chicken Chipotle salad", with the chipotle (jalopeño) dressing [they changed the name of the dressing a while back]. ### This is undoubtedly the least salty dish on their menu, with a mound of chopped Romaine lettuce and pulled (not stewed, not grilled) chicken. I always begin by saying "Ill never finish that", but each time I leave a clean plate (Im thinking because lettuce is basically all water). ### Bottom line, On The Border is one of our current two "top picks" for [American] Mexican food in this area. ### We started going to this [Miami Lakes] location when the location closer to our home closed. Relatively speaking (either time or location), the food is saltier, especially the refried beans, Mexican rice and fajitas. ### On our second last visit my wife asked for her beef fajitas to be replaced due to the excessive salt, which is apparently all contained in the "fajita seasoning" used in the kitchen. I should note that my wife is from Thailand and eats mounds of salt, and the fajitas were still too salty for her. ### Back on the positive side of things, On The Border offers an apple cobbler / ice cream desert thing that is quite good, and is one of the few American Mexican restaurants to still offer a good taco salad in a shell, so if you never lost your taste for taco salads, check that one out, too. ### Ive had other entrees and found most of them okay but undistinguished. Ive order the checken enchiladas in green sauce at least twice, and they have a pretty good tomatillo sauce, definitely better than the green school paste I was served at two other Souitheast Florida Mexican restaurants. ###

If I could give less than one star, I would. Walking into a nearly empty restaurant and having to wait to be seated because no one was at the the hostess stand should have been an indication that this whole experience was not going to go well. Our server was neglectful and far too occupied with her predominantly male tables. She was also in the midst of messing up a checkout for a party of two sitting near us, and all the while her and her manager were trying to rectify her mistake my table went without drinks or attention of any sort. Finally after waiting for what seemed like forever our food was brought out by another server and finally we were able to ask for some more water (there were two empty glasses, this other server only brought one glass with water). Frustrated and hungry we ate our food, which was clearly standing at the window for a good time. My boyfriends fajitas werent sizzling or smoking, they were warm not hot. My food (The Superior Dinner combo) was obviously over microwaved but we ate it because at that point complaining would have just left us hungrier and more aggravated. We decided to sweeten our night with the brownie sundae, because who can mess up a brownie sundae? Well this place certainly found a way. The brownie was dry and over-baked, then barely re-heated for the ice cream. Overall the experience was terrible and how I wish the tragedy ended there. The next morning I arose with signs of food poisoning that I am still showing symptoms of two days later. I have sent a formal complaint to the Florida Department of Health. Save yourself the trouble and DO NOT EAT HERE!!!

DO NOT GO HERE!!!I went with my family and the service was horrible and I would dare to say disrespectful. Took us 3 times to ask for the same thing. Our waitress brought us an ALREADY USED AND DIPPED sour cream, I noticed immediately and told my husband not to eat it, she noticed and didnt say anything she told the bust boy "oh bring her a fresh sour cream a NEW ONE" What an issult to the intelegence of somone one whos watchin you do your JOB,so she knew what she was doing and pretended like were idiots not noticed our foods been messed with which has remains of someone elses food in it, secondly this same waitress eats out of peoples plates in the kitchen which is clearly visible to the public and also the guy who was cooking was not using gloves. I would not be surprised if foodborne illness is reported. The manager is aware of these conditions and is not doing anything about it, he is "cool" with everybody according to him. Ive been to this restaurant countless time but this is the last, I will not be putting my familys safety at risk. Lastly the poor bartender is giving out peoples orders and telling them she doesnt know anything about their orders when people complained, poor lady trying to help out, least to say the waitress just wanted us to pay and leave, never asked if dessert was wanted at the table. We did not make any complains.

Update: Food was alright. My partner liked their food. I only really went for the chips and salsa! Service was pretty slow considering how it was empty but nice server. Lets do a break down. I have gone here for many years (five to six years) duration of a server to attend to you: I would say ten to twenty minutes. I never thought of this as a big deal until I told people how long it takes. Some of the servers will be nice to you or some may be clueless about the menu. Some will be rude about you asking many questions. The food quality: I never really got anything great besides a quesadilla and ultimate faja. The first three years it was great plates of food up until last year that I realized I do not want to go here besides for the chips and salsa. The supreme was burnt and it gave my friends food poisoning. My plate of food did give me the runs too. Server time to check up on you: They probably check up on you once during the time youre eating and one time when youre waiting on your food. The only thing I have liked this place was their desserts.

I went to eat with my parents about a month ago and all I can say is we are not going back for a long long time and it sucks because this is the closest OTB that we have. I usually do not like to be picky about restaurants because I have worked in customer service and handling food but my experience was pretty bad. Let me start off by saying that they took forever for a waiter to attend us when he finally did he took awhile to give us our drinks after I took a few sips I discovered paper in the cup mind you I made sure I took off all the paper from the straw then the waiter brought our entrees but forgot to bring my parents appetizer which was a soup that right there made us feel bad my parents did not have their soup because by the time our waiter brought it they were finishing their food and he told us that he had to argue with the cook because the cook was refusing to make the soup I thought that was pretty immature on their part. This is the second time we have a bad experience there I suggest retraining all of the staff and having better management.
