My husband and I were hesitant to try this place due to negative reviews. We decided to give it a shot on a Friday night around 8:30pm and were told it would be an hour and a half wait unless we wanted to sit on the patio/deck. I was ready to leave as it was a cold night; the hostess mentioned they had heaters out there so we stayed. We were sat at the outer center of the patio which did bring in some chilly winds. There was a small heater above the table right beside us that didnt really help much while sitting down. Once you stand up you can feel the heat. There were quite a lot of people standing around the bar area as the Saloon that was inside was extremely packed. When the server came we could barely hear what she was telling us. It was either too loud out there or she needed to speak up quite a bit. I think it was both. Also the chairs out there are great for relaxing/reclining back in but once you are ready to eat they are a pain as you have to sit up straight and lean into the table. I am a vegetarian so I was able to find a few items on the menu that I could eat. They also had a wide variety of salads without meat, which is nice. I tried the Roasted Vegetable pasta which was seasoned well and had the BlackFinn house salad which I thought was very tasty and enjoyed that it was a different type of house salad than the norm. My husband tried the Lime Seared Salmon, despite hearing from a friend that it wasnt good. He enjoyed it. They could use a couple more dessert options, so we didnt have any. If the weather is nice, I am sure I would prefer the patio to eating inside. The scenery is just nicer. This place is more expensive than it needs to be, so that is probably the main downfall. No bread brought before meal either.

My wife and I went there for our anniversary. We decided to go try something new after cancelling our annual pilgrimage to Ruth Chris. The menu looked outstanding online so we chose BlackFinn. The restaurant wasnt hard to find so that was a plus. Parking lot seemed crowed for a Monday night but we walked in and were seated immediately. Bar was full but we were able to get lost in each other and mind everyones business at the same time. Now on the what youve all been waiting for...The Food. Appetizer...French Onion Soup...awesomeness but tell them to bring some oyster crackers. Side salads was really fresh and tasty. I got the shrimp and grits and my wife got the bacon wrapped meatloaf. My plate was fantastic her plate was so so. Meatloaf taste more like sausage loaf and the macaroni and cheese seem to come straight from the box. Also her greens couldve had more flavor. We got dessert like gluttons but that made the night...A hot coco cup. It had vanilla ice cream, brownie with peanut butter sauce with cream cheese icing and when I say "to die for" I mean to die for cause we were both moaning and groaning on the way home. Service was attentive, drinks were good. I would definitely recommend to anyone.

I dined at this restaurant twice so far, once when it first opened and a second time a few months after it opened. Both visits were quite disappointing, the first visit the food was cold, not good, and took almost an hour to come out (two lunch entrées). I figured since the place was new they probably didn’t have their operations down yet and needed to get some kinks worked out so I told myself I would give it a second try. Unfortunately, four or five months after the first visit nothing had changed, the food was still average (especially for the price), and the service was terrible. Almost an hour to bring out the food, and our waiter didn’t really care to explain himself either. They tried to smooth things over with some bread but I paid nearly $300 not for bread but for our meals on time. To top it off dessert took twenty minutes to come out as well. Unless they rework their management/operations I would not recommend this place to anyone, but if you like spending a lot of money for bad service/food it’s a perfect fit for you.

Ordered the Chicken Roma and the Fish and Chips. Fantastic job on the fish & chips. The Chicken Roma was disappointing. The lemon was so overwhelming that it was more like sucking on a raw lemon than anything else. The chicken was described as parmesan crusted; I dont quite know how to describe what was presented. One piece had a nicely cooked crust - on ONE side. The other side and both sides of the other chicken was beyond pale, it looks like they didnt bother to properly cook it or maybe they just microwaved it - because rhe xhicken was dully cooked but the crust was raw. They were kind enough to take it off our tab and the waiter, Kyle, was very nice. The manager did this drive-by visit and never even asked what was wrong with rhe meal or properly apologize for the experience. It was not extremely busy, so I dont even see a reason for the improperly cooked meal and the absentee manager. I still rated it a 4star because I feel that this is not a representation of a typical experience.

I was in Jacksonville for business as I have been many times before. I always wonder over to St. Johns Town Center as there are plenty of choices. This time I asked the hotel staff where at St, Johns they recommended and 2 different people suggested BlackFinn for different reasons.....one for food and serivce and the other for a fun atmosphere in the bar (later to find out they call it a saloon). How could I not listen to the locals? I dined in the "Grille Room" at the bar where an awesome bartender spoke with and entertained his guests. I had their house salad and the sea bass. Both were wonderful. I was tempted to have the Bacon Wrapped Meat Loaf......next time. Upon completion, I shot over to the "saloon" where they have TVs everywhere for the game and killer tunes to make you want to stay and have a few more drinks. The hotel staff were both right. Two thumbs up for BlackFinn, I will be back for that meat loaf and to try some of those sandwiches as well.

I travel constantly for work and have found a great spot near the Saint Johns Town Center. I went in for lunch and had a flatbread and salad combo which was really good and a great value($7.99) The server told me that it was a new item and that they had just started a new menu a few days earlier. The salad was nice and fresh and the buffalo chicken flatbread was simply amazing. It was good enough for me to stop back a few days later for dinner with my wife and i was just as pleased. For dinner we tried another one of their flatbreads the BBQ Chicken(my wife wouldnt go for the Buffalo style) and for dinner she had a lime seared salmon and i tried their Pan Fried pork chop which was a HUGE boneless pork chop in seasoned breadcrumbs and served with pasta and a side dish of fried brussels sprouts really really great. A hot Chocolate cup dessert topped of the evening and the server, Ben was really amazing. All in all a great evening and a great experience
