Tonight was my first visit to Mr. Bones BBQ in Anna Maria. We called ahead for 7:30 but by 6 we were hungry, so when we called to move our seat time up, they were more than obliging. Upon arrival they had a table ready for us and we were seated immediately. Our waitress was quick, helpful, polite, and all around amazing. Though the place is small ( I would not recommend for groups larger than 4), the atmosphere was colorful and fun! It reminded me of a Day of the Dead fiesta! Also, a sign I noticed upon walking in which stated that "no salt, pepper, ketchup, etc. will be handed out nor needed" kind of made be skeptical... but boy was I wrong! There is no one word that could do justice in describing the food at Mr. Bones. Everything my party ordered was simply perfect. From the Mr. Bones side salad to the General Moes Watercress- eating it was like a dream. 3/4 of my party got vegetarian/vegan meals and they were superb. The person in our party who did get meat got the burrito and he said it was heavenly. BUT MAKE SURE YOU SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! Because nothing I have ever tasted compares to the peanut butter brownie. And to make everything even better, the check (when split in two) was only $28/$32. The first check was for 2 entrees, a coke, a water, and dessert. And for the second half it covered 2 entrees, a side salad, 2 waters, and dessert. I would recommend this to young people, in small groups (or a duo), looking for amazing food that is easy on the wallet. I cannot wait for my next vacation to Anna Maria so I can visit Mr. Bones again!

Stopped in for lunch on a whim on this windy, overcast day, and so glad we did. A sign outside mentioned Indian spices and vegetables but I was really looking forward to pulled pork, and maybe some corn bread and baked beans. Corn bread wasnt on the menu but they did have yams, another favorite of mine, and by the end of the meal it didnt matter that corn bread wasnt available. The pulled pork was remarkably juicy and tender, and their homemade sauce was delicious. More sweet than tangy but it complemented the pork well. The yams, served in a sweet sauce, blew me away. I tasted a sausage from my sisters jambalaya and it was just as tasty as everything else. The menu said that my meal came with curry fried rice, which I had found interesting. I had never heard of bbq served with fried rice, especially fried with curry. Let me tell you: That rice was surprisingly good. In ordering my meal I didnt think I would touch the rice but I just couldnt help it. Service was great. Decor incorporates some traditional New Orleans themes which I have always found intriguing. Im glad the wind blew us into the place, and Ill be returning in the future. Oh, did I mention locally made key lime pie with raspberry, lemon, and lime drizzle? Yeah. Do it.

My husband and I, along with our 2 children (ages 9 & 6) dined at Mr. Bones on a Sunday afternoon. We were expecting BBQ since the sign indicated such. We were promptly greeted and escorted to our table. When we received our menu, there were only a few bbq items: beef brisket, ribs and pork or brisket sub. All other items were of a different faire. Since we were craving bbq my husband ordered the brisket. I ordered the pulled pork and my children each ordered the childs baby back rib entree. When my husbands brisket came out, my daughter asked if it was beef jerky! There is no way this could have been brisket. Our family has eaten our fair share of bbq in various places around the country, so we know a thing or two about what bbq is and this was not it. My pulled pork tasted like it was prepared in a crock pot. The kids ribs were okay but definately not smoked. We all left hungry. We were renting a house on Anna Maria with our inlaws and when we returned, my brother-in-law told us that he ate there last year and felt the same way about the food....Not real BBQ. Maybe the other entrees were better, but I would not recommend this restuarant if you are looking for bbq.

This is my first time writing a bad review about a restaurant but I felt the need to share. My experience at Mr. Bones was that terrible. We stood at the front door for atleast 5 minutes without anyone saying anything to us. It was obvious they were short staffed because I only saw one waitress working. I understand she was busy but she walked by and looked at us about 5 times before she even said be right with you, and even then she was almost rude. She was obviously annoyed and not in a good mood. She sat us at a table where we sat for another 10 minutes without even getting the chance to order a drink. (Not to mention the air vent was leaking and dripping dirty water on our table..) She never came up to us, but continued to serve all the tables around us except for one..A family that had come in right before us. After a while they got up and walked out, and we followed. I was a server for years so this whole thing was appalling to me. Ive never seen such disregard to costumers and poor service. They lost two tables and no one even cared that we left either or noticed. Horrible experience. It was my first and last time there.

First off, I have to say that the food we had was for a family picnic the night before our wedding. Really good food. I love good ribs and these are good. Nothing out of the ordinary but good. I actually thought the barbecue chicken was better. Loved the sauce on it!!! My favorite of the three main dishes we got was the gumbo. Just the right amount of spice. I think it was curry. Delicious!!!! We got two sides. Baked beans that were good and the potato salad I really liked!!!! What takes this from a 4 star to a 5 star review was the service. This was carry out and it was called in 5 hours ahead of time. It was for a fairly good sized group of people. The order was correct, cooked on time and not too early. The hostess/ cashier was a sweetheart. She helped us carry it out to our car and when I went back in to pay she asked what it was for. When I told her, she followed me back to the car to congratulate my bride to be! Great job Mr. Bones!!!!
