I ate at Sublime today with a couple friends while on vacation in Fort Lauderdale. Sublime is an all vegan restaurant. It is by far the most elegant vegetarian/vegan restaurant I have visited. But that comes with a price. The main courses are not too bad - about $13-$17. Its the other things that inflate the bill. Sides and appetizers run $6-$20. Desserts run $9-$12. My friends bill (2 people) was almost $70 and they had no alcohol. They had a lime drink, 2 sushi roll plates, a chicken/linguine dish and a dessert. My meal cost less than $20, but I only had one entree and water. So, lets talk about the food. I had the enchiladas that come stuffed with rice and Gardien (name brand) beef style meat substitute. It is topped with a vegan mozzarella style cheese sauce and is accompanied with black beans. The taste of the food was quite good, especially the mole sauce, which was very rich. Instead of topping the enchiladas with the mole sauce, they spread it on the plate below all the food which enhances the presentation and gave a little extra zing to the beans. The enchilada shells looked homemade to me as did the mozzarella cheese sauce. It impressed me that they did not use prepackaged cheese or shells. Overall, my dish was above average. I can imagine it tasting better if some things about it were better. The enchilada was stuffed with more rice than Gardien. The beans were bland by themselves, but were saved by the mole sauce. It was not a tiny portion of food, it was a decent size for an elegant restaurant. But I did not walk away stuffed. Dont take my critique as being harsh. I liked the meal and it was quite good. Im just being as thorough in my review as I can be. I had a taste of my friends grilled BBQ tofu. It was quite nice and had beautiful criss-cross grill marks. The BBQ tofu was a replacement for his blackened tofu, which he said had very little taste (I didnt try it). On to dessert: key lime cheesecake. My friends wife, an avid key lime pie lover and cheesecake lover did not like it at all. So, I had my way with the cheesecake. The texture was gorgeous, just like a real baked cheesecake. The crust was not graham cracker - instead they used crushed almonds with something sweet holding them together (maybe agave nectar?). There was some coconut mixed in cheesecake part. What this cheesecake lacked was a strong key lime flavor. There was a hint of key lime, but not enough in any of our opinions. And there was no cheesecake flavor. It was sweet and had the texure of cheesecake, but thats it. Lets talk about other noteworthy things. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable and extremely professional (I would say our waiter was suave). Our waiter gladly swapped out the tofu my friend didnt like for something else without a fuss. The owner was extremely friendly and we met her when she made her rounds to have a small chat with each of the guests. The menu claims that 100% of the profits goes toward animal welfare causes. That fact may make the bill a little more palatable. They offer valet parking, but you can go old school and do it yourself. Finally, trying to find the place, my GPS was way off. Mine landed me right in front of a Publix grocery store and I had to call them and drive several more blocks to the restaurant. Since GPS devices may share the same maps, you may have trouble finding it. Look up directions before you head out. Conclusion: The place is beautiful with an elegant atmosphere. If the prices of the food were half of what they cost, I would give a full five stars. But at their prices, you expect perfection. For the most part, the food was excellent. But some items could have been better. I would go back again for a special occasion.

Dont waste your money, its all hype! Greeted and seated pleasantly and first let me say my waiter was polite, efficient and on point but read on to discover some unexpected & unpleasant nuances. Thanksgiving fare was limited to two courses, so we chose salad greens (only with a light dressing), main course: tofurkey, quinoa, mashed potatoes, green beans, dessert a choice of vegan pumpkin chocolate cheesecake or apple tart. Sounds good right. Well we were served fairly quickly after our order was made and drinks served and then my wife said to me why is it that our salad was so light when there was this lady in street clothes (which to me is tacky for the ambience hyped) running around with plates piled high with salad greens, Im like what and my wife said she had caught our server give her a concerned look when he was handed our salads to serve us. I said ok but watched and indeed I noted that this same lady had decided to cheat us on our salad portions of what seemed the normal amount of salads that I saw being run around right past me on a constant basis. I sighed and hoped things would get better. We were served the main course thereafter and I was disappointed in the size of the servings, I have been to better restaurants and for a Thanksgiving dinner, the servings were unusually light and presentation unappealing, tasted ok, so I ate my portions and then with a little left pushed the plates away. Then here comes the lady in her (tacky street clothes), with a sheepish expression as my wife had glared at her earlier to let her know she had noticed we were jilted on the salads, she decided to rub salt in our wounds and then asked us could she make a "to go bag" for a few green beans and remnants of tofurky and quinoa. By now I was steaming, this woman had me riled up, I did not smile nor respond and just stared at her, (I sighed and assigned her to "classless trash status") we took our desserts, which were surprisingly good and gave the waiter his appropriate tip, (I respect wait staff, my dad was a culinary chef of 25 years, he shouldnt be penalized for his disgusting management) and left Sublime with a resolve to write a review on this hyped up joint and let you know if you are a particular ethnicity, use at your own risk, dissatisfaction and buyers remorse for a hyped up vegan restaurant.

Ive been to many vegan restaurants and I was really looking forward to dining here. However, I was let down. The entrees were weak. The mushroom ravioli wasnt very tasteful. The stir fry seemed like steamed rice mixed with vegetables with a not so good sauce combined into the dish. I added the tofu to my stir fry and that was a big waste of money. The tofu was horrible. I was actually just talking to my friend before hand, hoping to convince her about how great tofu is and how it all depends on who makes it, and then I got the short end of the stick. Fml. Finally, the lasagna, BOOOOO!!! It saddens me to say but it was honestly something I wouldnt eat again. I am a big lasagna person and I know good lasagna. Unfortunately, the lasagna here doesnt fall into that category; a big let down. Its really upsetting because I just dont see how you can ruin something as simple as lasagna. Any who, what I can tell you is that there Frito Misto is officially #thebomb.comApproved! This appetizer is life! Perfectly crispy cauliflower tossed in a sweet Asian inspired sauce, ah lawdddd bless me with another serving! But seriously, this cauliflower is amazing, they really mastered this appetizer. It really will give orange chicken from any Asian joint, a run for their money. A+++ The pretzels were also awesome. Although I always think pretzels are too salty for my taste, its not much to wipe some of the salt off and enjoy. Although the entrees were trash, I will be coming back for a million and one more servings of Frito Misto and pretzel sticks. My mouth is watery just thinking about that cauliflower. My wife and friend also enjoyed the wine. But please, anyone dining here must order 2 of the cauliflower appetizer!!!
